- In this video, i teardown a 6L90 out of a 2010 Chevy Express van, this van had a transmission cooler line leaking and ran it low on fluid, burned out the 1-2-3-4 clutch as well as the 4-5-6 clutch. I also was working on a 6L80 so at the end of the video, i show how to I.D the Valvebodies. Thanks for watching, enjoy your Labor Day.
Great video as usual Gary. Very informative. Thanks
Great information videos. I got a x5 2008.4.8 , their is delayed in reverse for like 2 sec before engaging. Can you suggest what might be the problem like.
Great tip about the VB I’d!
It helps if you have a valvebody just lying there
Hey Gary, regarding the 6L45, 6L80 and 6L90 - how interchangable are these boxes? are there some things you can use from a 6L80/90 in a 6L45 to beef it up a bit? or even just adapt a 6L80/90 to work on a motor that came with the 6L45?
6L80 and 90 maybe some s
parts. I don't think the 6L45, The 6L45 maybe be able to use some stuff from a 6L50
@@GaryFerraro Thanks Gary! legend!
I really enjoy thanks
Great vid👍
Can you use the tcm over again if you just have a mechanical failure? I heard they have to be flashed.
You can use it and no flash, may have to reset the shift adapts but no flash of tcm. After the repair, i would drive it first and see how it works
Thank you Gary.
Thanks for watching
Great video! Is there any preventave things I should do to my 6L90 to help it live a long life? (Besides fluid/filter changes)
Not Really, pressure reg valve wears out but that is located in pump so can't really do much about that
@@GaryFerraro We finally found the solution to our problems.
@@NarutoUzumaki-lx7tj what did you find?
@@GaryFerraro Sorry but i can't say.
@@GaryFerraro Let me know which is the best product to clean the solenoids and how to clean them? Could you make a video on this topic?
Hi Gary it's a shame some of those shops in your area don't give you some sort of financing so that their technicians can upgrade their skills knowledge is power.
I charge them for do diagnostics, thats about it
Hello,,,i juste built a 6l80,,,. i can not turn the shaft ( in bell housing ) by hand...but with some pliers its easy and smooth...is it normal,,,thank you
Normally no, loosen up the pump and see if it POPS up a little after you loosen the last bolt, something may not be down all the way
@@GaryFerraro no it does not pop out,,,all bearings are placed in the good way...snap rings ,,,too....its build for 1000whp,,,,456 billet shaft with power glide 45 tooths clutchs and steels.( clearance ok )..new buschings intalled with proper tool
if you loosen the pump does it spin easier?@@vtimou5772
@@GaryFerraro no it does not...but its all good !!!...it was the new pump bushing that was a little tight... polish it with 2000 grid and now its A1...had to do the same thing in. the past for a 4L80.. thank you for the quick help and reply !!!
Thanks You Gary
Thanks Jose
i have a 2009 2500hd bought a rebuilt transmission 2 years ago got 30.xxx miles on it started leaking up front never a drip just started while driving coming out of round inspection hole on bottom of the bell housing 6L90E pulled it down installed a new seal still leaking was very careful with installing seal. double checked seal size and part number before installing.. it seems like its coming from around the front seal but im doubting that now... any suggestions ? thanks mike
Did you look at the bushing? was the converter hub smooth? Both dowel pins in place?
@@GaryFerraro bushing looks new..no marks at all on converter neck ,both dowels in place... 30 years mechanic just not on transmissions im gonna pull it out and pressure check the converter i guess is my firs step.. it was dripping on my lift before i started it after installing new seal.. could it leak around bolts holding bell housing/pump on ? thanks for any advice mike
@@mikesbikes4133 Certainly not common, rarely see that, was the whole bellhousing wet like the converter was slinging the oil around?
yes it looked like it was slinging it... taking it out now ill reply with my find..
@@GaryFerraro base of torque converter neck cracked all the way around
Good video,
Thank you
Thanks Kevin
These don’t strike me as being as robust of a unit as the 4L80/85E that they replaced. Maybe I’m just old school and prefer the TH400 based 4L80E better.
There really not that bad, they don't really bust up to bad
@@GaryFerraro thanks for the feedback Gary, nice to hear that you approve of the unit. I’ve had a poor impression of the 6L80 which maybe I unfairly applied to the 6L90 as well. Great content as usual!!!
@@lukestrasser Thanks, working on a 6L90 Now, problem, blown converter
