They were just the face of the act and session/studio singers sang the songs who's faces were never revealed. I get that they lied, which is not fine. But, half of the songs anyways there were womens voices, so clearly not theirs. Today we have singers that dont write their songs and put so much autotune on their voices that its not really theirs anymore. Is that much better? At least they were great dancers and had a lot of charm. No one can take that away from them. I claim that today they would still be stars after that fail. They should have just said from the beginning that its not their voices and people would have still loved them for entertaining
