Brings back special memories for me back in 1961 joining Fulham as an apprentice professional when I was 15 then signing as a professional at 17years old. I loved my time at Fulham and it will always be very special to me to play for such a great club.John Dempsey ex player.
John - thank you so much for stopping by the channel! You’re a true legend at Fulham, Chelsea, and of course for Ireland! As a Philly native over here in the states…my only question is how were you ever able to adjust to that Veterans Stadium ‘Astro Turf’ after all of those years at the Cottage, and Stamford Bridge? 😅
@@StateOfSoccer Thank you for your kind comments. Yes it was very difficult to adjust to playing on AstroTurf after playing on grass and it was hard on your legs and especially your hamstrings which took a while to get used to. Most of the stadiums we played on when I was with Philadelphia Fury were AstroTurf so over time I got used to it but I still preferred grass. I enjoyed my time in Philadelphia which I will never forget. Stay Safe
@@edwardshirley9314 Hi Edward in my time playing with him he was a lovely man and the best passer of a ball I ever played with. Like any player the standard of Johnny Haynes sometimes if he never got a pass from a colleague to his feet when playing he would have a go because he expected better. A great player and a lovely person.
Hello sir, first of, I just want to say congrats on the great career. Also It’s crazy that TWO Dempseys have played for Fulham! Love and respect from the USA 🇺🇸
I grew up on the other side of the river, directly opposite the ground, so I was able to read my books by the light of the floodlights that shone into my room and could tell the scores from the noise of the crowds. My first match there was at the age of ten, in 1971, and I've been a Fulham supporter ever since.
Great sight hope to get there soon Fulham since 1968 on my honeymoon BLACKPOOL went to see my friend JIM CONWAY play(RIP) and became hooked JACK COONEY DUBLIN
Fulham fan here - what a delightful video! I'm so glad you liked our ground. I just wanted to highlight 16:10 in your video. There's a flag hanging on a wall that says "RIP Tony Warner". Tony very sadly died of Covid last year, but he was our official Number One Fan. He attended every single match whether home, away or abroad. He also carried the trophy out at Wembley when we were in the play off final there in 2018. He was a very recognisable figure and I often chatted to him when we were away at some far flung northern club. I originally posted this to give a bit of context to any casual watcher of this video, but it's just made me think how wonderful of my club to have a tribute to him up on the wall. I would never have seen it as I sit down the other end and haven't planned on another stadium tour (I went on one years ago and I go to the ground every other weekend anyway!). So thank you very much for that!
Thank you so much for the comment. I myself was curious about the flag hanging on the wall. A beautiful tribute to Tony! It's so apparent that Fulham is a true community club, I wish them the best of luck next season in the EPL!
As a Fulham fan who has been sitting in the Johnny Haynes stand for the past 5 years every game , this video was really enjoyable. And as the tour guide said, Tim Ream genuinely is a really loved one at the club, he’s been defending there for as long as I can remember. Thank you for this video it was great.
I'm a Liverpool fan and I'm glad to see Fulham promoted. Proper old fashioned football ground, much prefer that to the soulless new stadiums that are propping up. Yet to go but would love to. Great video and the tour guide seemed lovely
One of my fave grounds- great character & features. The cottage in the corner is brilliant, my first glimpse inside it this. It looks great at Christmas when they stick all the lights and stuff on it!
What a great, unique stadium. I was at the Fulham v Benfica game (Feb 1972) at the opening of the riverside stand. 50 years later a new riverside stand is nearly finished - how time flies!
I haven’t even finished the video yet, and I just wanted to say how much I love the tour guide, as he is super passionate about Fulham and is extremely emotionally invested. This has been a very cool watch thus far
I think that stadium is one of the coolest ones, because they try to preserve it as much as they can. The front is amazing, original architecture. Hope they keep preserving it.
We'll never leave the cottage. End of the 91-92 season we were leaving the ground we didn't have a home. Last game of the season against Bradford we Jimmy Hill came on the pitch and announced we weren't going anywhere but it was still touch and go. Fulham2000 baby.
Funny the guide saying that Fulham like their 4-0 home wins. I have been to Craven Cottage for a game twice; the second time was for an FA Cup tie in 2011 between Fulham and my team, Spurs. Fulham won 4-0; it wasn't the most enjoyable 90 minutes of my life, but I absolutely loved the ground. I had a great time sat in the Johnny Haynes stand bantering with Fulham fans - Fulham have been a bit of a second team for me ever since and I'm pleased about their return to the premiership this coming season. Maybe they will manage to stay up this time...
was in London in April/23, did a Thames tour to Kew Gardens and passed by Craven Cottage - beautiful view of the Cottage! Am a Spurs fan from across the pond but looking forward to our next journey to England to come to Fulham for a tour and a match!
Add Fulham to my favorite clubs. Because of this great stadium and of the genuine rootsy London feeling that is so obvious from watching this excellent video.
I totally agree. It’s funny because it was my first time visiting London…flight landed at 9am…direct from Philly, and this was the first thing I did. No sleep, right off of the plane. But it was totally worth it, and a great introduction to London 🤙
Craven Cottage, what a really nice ground in fact, the cherries have been their guests there many times now. so good to be back again next season in the premier league.

Super video, thanks for doing it. My first visit to the Cottage was Easter Monday 1958, when there was just the Stevenage Road stand, everyone else, Hammersmith end, Putney end, riverside terraced were totally exposed to the elements, standing too. The new stand looks amazing, but the little cottage now seems insignificant, whic is a shame. Will be at my first match of the season there vs Forest on Tuesday in the Johnny Haynes.
Sydney Cricket Ground(SCG), has two pavilion grand stands that are still standing and in use today, they date from 1886 and 1896, both with members rooms at the back of the stands. It's a beautiful stadium!

Not many old school, working class grounds left. Luton's, Kenilworth Road is also one of the last. Still crammed into the terraced streets that once housed the supporters. Today's concrete & steel constructions are soulless. I love being right on the pitch, in a crescendo of noise. Oh how West Ham miss that!
Oddly enough Fulham tend to get their support more from Putney and Wimbledon and down the A3. The locals in the immediate area would love to see Craven Cottage go the way of Highbury or Bradford Park Avenue. The moment that Fulham so much as hint of a ground improvement, out come the petitions.

Also our ‘link’ to Atlanta Utd in the MLS is a joke. Our chairman has strong links to Texas
The white house at Cliftonville FC's Solitude stadium in Belfast, Ireland is an old, listed pavilion if I'm not mistaken. It is still there today. The club was founded in 1879 and as such is Ireland's oldest football team.
After 45 years as a fan I can say without doubt this team & ground are the essence of what a great friendly local sports team should be. Remember there is only one F in fulham
From visiting the ground for the first time…I could even feel that without any fans there. Would love to go back for a match! Thanks a lot for the feedback, James!
@@StateOfSoccer I'm a Chelsea fan too. Many of us like Fulham in a patronising kind of a way (I realise that's a one way thing). Back in the day I used to go to Fulham games when Chelsea were away and until recently I lived walking distance from Craven Cottage. Apparently from the top of the new stand you can actually see the home of the European Champions clearly - it's less than two miles away.
I can't quite remember why, but Fulgam played a season or two away from the Cottage (a splendid place), why was this? I was lucky enough to attend 2 games there at the start of the 1987/88 season, I was staying with a mate from boarding school in Devon(not a posh one 👊), with a lad from Harrow, who's Dad was a copper,& Fulham fan he took us. I was quite surprised to see Sndy Gray come running g out in Notts County light blue away shirt as I thought he was still at my club, The Villa, in his second spell. Trying to recall whom the second game was against now. Plymouth Argyle see more of my money now, as I've been down here a long time now, Cornwall actually. Fulham beat The Villa, in the playoff final, 2018, I bare no grudges, guttted at the time of course.Nade ut a year later, the hard way, of course, a game that ultimately now sealing Derby's demise. I guess some Fulham fans will also remember, Derby costing you dear, in the early 80's & game being blown up slightly early at Derby, because of their crowd all at the edge of pitch & having a boot at one of your players. I don't know if your chairman at the time, Ernie Whalley was it ?? If he got to see Fulham make the top flight again I hope he did, or knew up there ☝. Good look Fulham, beautiful ground.

Also our ‘link’ to Atlanta Utd in the MLS is a joke. Our chairman has strong links to Texas
The little trophy cabinet is cute
What an awesome experience and episode! I loved it!
Thank you!
The white house at Cliftonville FC's Solitude stadium in Belfast, Ireland is an old, listed pavilion if I'm not mistaken. It is still there today. The club was founded in 1879 and as such is Ireland's oldest football team.
That would be a great spot to profile on a future trip! Sounds really fascinating. I appreciate the feedback
Wow! Didn't expect that. The most cozy home for over 25 000 people :) Pozdro666

Sou do Brasil 🇧🇷, torcedor do Fulham ⚽️🏴
As a Chelsea fan this is a beautifull stadium really and very old school i like it🔥👌
After 45 years as a fan I can say without doubt this team & ground are the essence of what a great friendly local sports team should be.
Remember there is only one F in fulham
From visiting the ground for the first time…I could even feel that without any fans there. Would love to go back for a match! Thanks a lot for the feedback, James!
Great video. God, that pavilion is so cool. Love it.
It’s very cool, thanks for stopping by!
QUICK UPDATE -- I will be doing pt.2 of my U.K. trip in late July!
What stadiums should I check out next?? Comment below! ✈️ 🇬🇧 ⚽
As a Chelsea fan eventho this an old stadium. It's very unique and i would definitely love to visit this stadium one day.
You should! Plus Stamford Bridge is very close to the Cottage! Maybe Chelsea vs Fulham at the Cottage would be a solid match 👏👏
Lovely old football Ground and still wish white Hart lane, Highbury, Upton park was still here
Yeah, wish I could've seen the old stadiums
I'm a new fan from LA and this video was awesome!
A trophy cabinet too 😮
Instantly become one of my fav video on youtube, not even a fan of Fulham.
Beautiful scene 11:00 and 12:03
Nice video. A little name check for Ibrox.
Great video mate
Thanks man, cheers!
mitroooo🔥🔥🔥🥇🥇
He's an absolute beast!
Good tour
It’s the English Fenway park
Love the comparison! I can see that
I can't quite remember why, but Fulgam played a season or two away from the Cottage (a splendid place), why was this?
I work there even though I'm a spurs fan love the ground and the fans
