    100 years after the whole area is still "Zone Rouge". Definition: "totally devastated. Damage to properties 100%. damage to agriculture 100%. Unfit for human life. impossible to clean".
    You can still see shellholes and you should never leave open paths (unexploded shells including many gas ones).

    While a traitor during WW2, Petain was arguably one of the most capable french commanders of WW1, his tactics, organization and grasp of how modern war works were ahead of his time. He even earned the nickname "Lion of Verdun" for his actions

    One thing about verdun, it was a rather small battlefield. 1,000,000 artillery rounds per sq km were fired.

  • @pandanemi-0239
    @pandanemi-0239 Рік тому +23

    To put this battle in some statistics, over 700,000 casualties were suffered during 302 days of the battle, that's over 2300 casualties per day of the battle, its estimated that between 40 to 60 millions artillery shells were fired in the battle meaning that about 130,000 to 200, 000 shells were fired everyday on average. In a very small area of about 30 square km as said in the video, that's about the size of 10 Central Parks in NYC, that's a very small area compared to many other WW1 battles

    Fun fact after Fort Douaumont was taken by the Germans, the french practiced taking back an exact replica of the fort to where they could do it blindfolded. When time came for the french to take it back, an extremely heavy fog rolled in but with the french training they went through, they still took the fort with ease

    When buying merch from them I chose the hoodie (it's my standard jacket really) for this song bcs it is one of my favorite songs and Verdun just fascinates me greatly.
    I have a massive interest in the limits of a person, both physically and mentally, and not much has pushed both of those to such extremes as Verdun

    Loved the reaction man and especially that you react to the song at the end.
    Also did you see my last comment on your last Sabaton reaction where I recommended a certain order you should react to the Swedish album in that also includes you reacting to both the English and Swedish versions of those songs?

    VERDUN. How can a subj that there's so much to say abt leave one speechless? This song & video are amazing. "They Shall Not Pass!!!" God willing, there will nvr be another war like WW1 again. As an American, I can't imagine how the Doughboys, trying to support their families during the Great Depression, felt when sending their kids off to WW2 (to do it all over again).

    I really like this way of reacting to both history and song together.
    Verdun, just like the Somme and Passchendaele, were bloody and inhumane. An atrocity of mankind. Lest we forget!

    All Quiet depends because it’s not a faithful adaptation to the book and it’s previous films in 1939 and 1979. However, it is a good film in its own right even with its historical inaccuracies for the specific part of WW1 it was trying to portray.

    Also, Tolkien lived his first years in the country side. Then they had to move to the city. The green, beautiful place the Hobbits live and then the dark, horrible place with mount Doom. The swamp with the dead in the water is a memory from the trenches in the war.

    Hello, I'd like to give my humble opinion, which you asked for... All quiet on western front was rather disappointing for me. Kind of typical Netflix of recent years, where they try to make up for the lack of story behind the abundance of special effects and explosions and action. Which is very sad as the original novel referenced here is itself one of the most important literary works in history, precisely because of how it describes the psychological hardships of soldiers at the front. And that's exactly what the film lacks, a connectivity with the characters, a real sense of their feelings. For me, the visuals are 8/10, but the story is 2/10.

  • @michaelwebster8389

    You should read "All quiet on the Western Front". I don't believe the film adaptations are nearly as good as the book - though I haven't seen all of them. The one from the 70s was terrible.
