I remember growing up my father had rage issues. Without going into too much detail, i had major resentments against my father for a long time. I found out he was dying one day. A month or two went by, i was listening to this song very intensley, listening to the lyrics, figuring out it was a story of a father and son, and the sons resentments against his father for not really being there and supporting his dreams. Then Elton sang "And Jesus, he wants to go to venus. Leaving levon far behind. Take a balloon and go sailing, while Levon, Levon slowly dies" and i broke down into tears. The following week i was visting him in the old folks home, where he was being treated and i told him i forgave him for everything, and that i loved him unconditionally.
I named my one and only son Levon after Elton John's song. I'm an old soul 😊
One hundred years from now people will still be listening to Elton John.
There is only one Elton John
When I was a 14 year old kid, listening to Elton John, I said to my friends, this is the kind of musician who will still be magic and making music when we are old. At least once in my life, I was right.
It's a 🎄 Christmas song I first heard it around Christmas, 1971 , who's here in 2024?
Thank you Elton for a lifetime of great music.
I literally wonder how many lives Elton John and Bernie Taupin helped save. I know I'm one.
If you only have one Elton John album it must be this one .
The entire album is by far Elton's finest hour, long before he became a spectacle.
It hurts my brain to think about how truly elite singer/songwriters were throughout the 70s. This album start to finish is brilliant. Just like every other album he made the 70s. Same with Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, etc. And that’s to say nothing of someone like Jim Croce who didn’t even live long enough to see the reaction to his brilliant album I Got a Name, as he was tragically killed a few months before it was released.
Elton Johns best songs have something spiritual about them.
The depth of this man’s genius is astonishing….
In the treasure chest containing all of Elton's wonderful music, "Levon" is the most beautiful jewel of them all. His best song ever, IMO.
“Alvin Tostig has a son today”
My dad loved this song so much. He always played it and he knew I loved Elton John so he always played this. May he rest in peace 🙏💔👼 1969-2020
I'm 71 and have to say that his concerts in Dallas,Tx were most memorable. I've see 3. He did all of his older songs along with YELLOW BRICK ROAD in1975. We were all young, and concerts were wonderful. I will never forget Elton John.
Paul Buckmaster arrangements are simply gorgeous. One of Elton and Bernie's best song. Not the most popular but it's really a jewel. One of my favorites !
I try not to be a gatekeeper in life or art, but a part of me really loves that this and Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters fly under the radar just a little.
This is brilliance.
