The Staves and producer Justin Vernon talk about the experience of recording The Staves’ second album, If I Was. Filmed on location at Vernon’s April Base Studios in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the mini-doc features songs from the album, interviews with the players, and behind-the-scenes footage of the recording process. ‘If I Was’ will be released via Atlantic Records and Nonesuch Records in early 2015. To pre-order the album please visit thestaves.com. The North American pre-order will be available from Jan 2015.

Do you have any idea - ANY IDEA - how excited this makes me? I've been following these girls for a while now thinking, "I've found something good." I'm glad they've had the chance to experiment with their music. Music reflects who and where we are at the moment. One thing I know is that this album is going to sound amazing. :)
Hello ladies!! I watched the 'Austin to Boston' documentary on Netflix, in September 2015. It was remarkable, and it introduced 'The Staves' to me. I just admire your arrangements/lyrics/singing so very much, and I listen to it pretty much every day. Props to all the people who have contributed their talents, in the production of your recordings; top-notch work, people!!!! I discovered The Staves last week, they opened for Angus & Julia Stone. I instantly fell in love with their voices and music. Now that I see their producer is Justin Vernon, it all makes sense :p

So many musical artists, I feel like Im watching a persona, an image of who they want to portray. The Staves seem to be honest, salt of the earth, real people with amazing voices. Very refreshing.

Thank you for your music. Its the one thing that is helping me through my Degree. My best friend bought me a ticket to see you all live in Bristol last year because she knew how much I love your music and I was completely blown away. I can't wait to see you all again :) A fan for life here..

A well of undeniable, unrepeatable talent that moves my musical soul.
so looking forward to listening to the new Album. Since hearing you at "Folk im Park" in Nuremberg 2013 I fell in love with your sound. Now I love the emerged development and multilayers of "blood i bled". Since "Bon Iver" and "Repave" are on heavy rotation since they came out this is probably the most perfect combination for me :) Lately the word "inspiring" seems a little outworn, but in this case it just fits perfectly.

crazy because i was a staves fan before i even knew who bon iver was.. i stayed away from bon iver because it always seemed like the hipsters were into that.. i found the staves from NPR years ago and DBG has been my go to roadtrip album for 7 years now

I discovered the Staves in a bookstore when this album first came out and have been listening ever since. Watched this doc many times for the music and to hear the snow crunching at minus what-the-hell. (And I hope bookstores come back when we're ready again to socialize amongst knowledge. And good coffee.)
I've lost count of my views of this. The photography is astounding, Justin's eloquent and spot-on description of this band, and of course the music. The Staves. Chokes me up sometimes.
My dream is to meet Justin, and hopefully record music and sing with him. ~V~

How are the Staves not the most popular group on earth? I think their music is too sophisticated for a lot of the mainstream. I firmly believe that the Stavely-Taylor sisters are one if not the greatest female group on the planet. Their songwriting, arrangements, voices.......it's all magic to me. 8:33 sums it all up.
