I love that you already know that life is short. Enjoy it as much as you can and as often as you can. Only astronauts get off the planet alive. 😉 Keep on adventuring.
Wow! You’ve had more adventures in 10 years than most people ever have! I started following you on the AT so thanks for sharing your earlier travels. Wishing you plenty more adventures- just NO alligators! Or sketchy river crossings 😮.
Dang Maddie, perfect video, and excellent audio! Lots of great tips in this one. Eventually, it’s always good to have a place to feel like we belong. I’ve always traveled, and close friends you’ve known for a long time are great, but you can always make new friends with similar interests.
Thanks for sharing Maddie! I've been following your channel since you lived in your van and have heard you refer to your past experiences but it was nice to connect several of the dots together. I'm your parents age but did lead a similar lifestyle until I met my wife and married at 28. I would encourage you to continue your zest for life even if you do settle down. You don't need to ever stop . I still work at age 70 and am planning to hike the Camino next Spring. I wish you and Gabe well and look forward to following your journey along life's path!
Maddie you are an amazing woman. There are a lot of us in your audience who watch you just to share in your adventures likely because we are older and we so wish we would have taken the road you did but didn’t for many reasons. And you are an excellent story teller & communicator. Your smiles don’t just line up a room they warm hearts and being comfort. Your vlogs are so well organized and your videography so life like. You have and are living life to the fullest while show us you don’t need to be a billionaire to do it. You share so much willingly … thank you and keep on posting. ❤😊
I worked for the military in Germany, and they paid my rent. After moving back to the states, I moved onto a sailboat and anchored off shore. After that,I did van life, and next summer is gonna be an AT thru. No rent so far. If there's a will....there is a way!
Sounds cool to me. Life has sections I think. I got married when I was 27. Had kids, jobs etc. Now kids grown, grandkids, about to retire. Think I’ll get back out there and see some of the world again. I follow you and others on UA-cam for ideas and inspiration. This time we are living in where people can share their experiences is a wonder to me.
I love your story. Just think of all the benefits of living an alternative traveler's life and the knowledge and enrichment that most of us will never get to have. You ROCK, Maddie!
I’m in my fifties & always had a wandering soul. It was so difficult to figure out how to find the opportunities to play with options like you have before the internet! Good for you for jumping in and exploring. It’s so important to show people they can Do the Thing!
What a fun video! It was really cool to see all the different ways you've made things work over the years, and it's so nice to see how much you're enjoying having a more fixed place to cal your own right now. Thanks for sharing!
There is also Woofing and WorkAway. You work for room and board on farms (organic and otherwise) or homesteads..Not for a business. The people you work for cant be making money off you. (but people do it anyway, its upto the workers to protect themselves). I didnt pay rent for many years on and off because I was homeless and/or couche surfing, and for a few years I got to live in an apartment as the care-taker for free. Eventually they did charge me 200/month though. I have had alot of mental health challenges, and been very sick and addicted many times in my life... It may have been cheap living but it wasnt very happy or healthy.. Eventually I moved in with a woman onto her homestead and lived rent free on their family land. It was the best and some of the hardest times of my life. That did end a couple years ago.. Im happy and healthy now working and paying rent in a nice place now though.
This was so captivating and interesting! What an incredible story you so kindly shared with us. 😊 You made wonderful memories Maddie. That's what it's all about. ✌️
A full tuition scholarship! Dang ! I KNEW you were brainy. You are a hard worker, and you are an intrepid explorer and very brave ! I can see you with a full time career in education. But you also are such a good researcher, have great introspection, a good eye for filming and storytelling. So YOU can do ANYTHING!
❤😊, life is what you make it. All lifestyles have their pros and cons. I would not change a thing except my attitude. Thank you for taking us along on your journey.
EKU (Eastern Kentucky University) Alumni...you go girl (Go Colonels - Go Big E, Go Big E, Go)! I graduated from EKU in 1986. I live in Bullitt County KY - 10 minutes from the Horine Reservation Trail Head (JMF - Jefferson Memorial Forest). I've Section Hiked the AT from GA to the VT/NH border. Currently hiking the Sheltowee Trace in eastern KY (along the I64 corridor near Morehead KY and the I75 corridor near Richmond / Berea / London KY) down into TN --> STHC = Sheltowee Trace Hiker Challenge, where we hike part of the trail 1 weekend each month over the course of a year to completed the 365 mile long trail. I enjoy following your adventures on UA-cam.
Interesting!! It's so good to know we can live "outside of the norm." My cousins were living off grid in the desert in AZ for a time. It was so cool!!!
I am Australian and when I was younger I did woofing. Travelled around Australia doing seasonal work - which doesn't pay to bad and they tax you less. Meet heaps of travellers. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to come to Australia on a working visa to do it.
I'm glad you made this video, and I'm reminded of why I like to watch. It's your honesty and self-awareness. You've had a lot of fun adventures, keep'm coming and take us along!
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces Hi there, Maddie! You're welcome! ♥️ Glad it could bring you some happiness. I think of your channel as: "Beautiful Maddie in beautiful places", or "The beautiful Maddie, wherever the place is". But much more importantly, what I like the best about you is that you are a sweet and good person. ❤️ Thank-you so much for replying. It was great to receive a reply from you. So sorry that it took me so long to reply back. It's great to get to know you a little bit from UA-cam. I hope you're doing good, and please always remember to be safe out there when you're on your adventures. ❤️❤️❤️
You are an excellent narrator, straight up , interesting, informational, helpful, presenting alternatives. Thank you. I just came back from a > month on the road in my Sienna Camper. Camped in between Contra dance weekends in Charleston, SC, Charlotte, Fayetteville WV, Mountain City TN. Visited Demascus, VA for Trail days. I’m full of bites, I think it was last night camping in Santen SP, SC. Drove > 9 hours to be home but we’ll worth it. 🥾🏕️
This was great information Maddie! Now that you have a home, you will definitely make new friends that will become close over time. Keep living your dream!
Haha...your just an amazing fun loving lady...Strawberry fields forever..lol. .I could easily see you at the original WOODSTOCK concert..lol...YAHOOOO CHEERS FOREVER DUDETTE
Interesting. Did you get your college degree in any of the areas you ended up working in? Also, how have you managed not paying for health insurance every month?
I majored in Parks and Rec, aiming for a career in summer camp management, so it definitely was related! But after losing that job in 2020 that I thought was going to be perfect, I was so tired of spending months searching for the right job at the right camp, and never quite finding it. So I decided to take a few summers off, which was when I moved into my van, and I've never regretted it!
very interesting and informative...i follow "Jordan ...Aborad w Jordan" a cruise ship ice skater...she like u has a place to land on her 3 months off w her parents and she like u is very inspiring IMO
In ‘78 I had a hundred dollar room on Euclid by UC Berkeley, they advertised take part in a health experiment 3 months we control your diet, put you in a white paper suit, collect your waste, put you in a mri tube (once). 46 years later here we are with one of the worst “foods” in the world in our grocery stores, convenience stores etc. The burger meat, the seed oils, the toxins, the chemical vitamins . . my contributions were all for naught apparently. Yes going car free is key (less) . The photocopier glossy paper is excellent for brush tip art pens, with a nice accurate metal line tip. The colors are super vibrant in this paper and they self seal in ; with a paperboard backing you could sell them in touristy areas and even cheat by copying your photographs of locally famous scenes. I started following you because of the Sienna Conversion, since I converted my 2020 Sienna. Always fine tuning the build.
You have lived such a fun, adventurous life so far! I'm so glad you are taking us along with you now!❤❤❤
Awww, thank you for coming with me!
