RPG horror games will always hold a special place in my heart. It's weird because it feels like a "niche" genre even though it became very popular for a short period of time, back in 2012 if i recall correctly. Very few people seem to know or remember these games.
Though more likely to know many of these rather then the RPGs made in RM. edit: It's sad that the good games (regardless of genre) don't have more people talking about them regardless.
I remember playing the original "The Witch's House" on my shitty laptop, watching Markiplier play it, and gushing to the wall about how much I wanted a sequel. I got the remake last year, and boy did it reignite my love for the game and the genre. They're all such hidden gems! If you haven't read the manga, I highly recommend it. It made me feel even worse for Ellen, even after the ending... It's on Amazon if you're interested! Pocket Mirror made me OBSESSED. I read the little bit of fanfiction it had on ao3, tried to find more, and gushed about it to my best friend who's never once touched an RPG game like these. I'm still trying to get her interested, but she has such a small attention span lol. Ib is a classic. It's just... It tickled an itch that steadily grew bigger-I'm 99% sure it was my first RPG horror, followed by Witch's House-and thus my love for these games was born. Garry and Ib's relationship was so pure and sweet and the character's grew on me so quickly despite the short length of the game. Well, except Mary. But even then, I still felt a semblance of pity for her. And there's a remake! I'll have to check it out. I never finished Aria's Story, so I'll go and check it out soon. Sorry for the long comment, I just love these types of games. If I could, I'd make one myself. I'm glad there's people out there who enjoy these games and their music as much as I do. It's fun to see others interact and appreciate these hidden gems! ^^
I apologize for the late reply and thank you for such a touching comment! The Witch's House was the very first RPG horror game for me, right after it was Mad Father. I saw walkthroughs of these games on UA-cam, and I simply fell in love with them! The mixture of cute style, innocent protagonists (kinda) and dark dramatic plot amazed me. I cried at the true endings of these games haha Since then, a lot of time has passed and many games that I have played by myself (including the ones you mentioned hehe) and which I want to play in the future! They greatly inspired and continue to inspire me to this day
I really love Pocket Mirror, it's my favorite RPG. My friends don't know what is it, it's nice to be able to meet more people who know about this great game. Thank you
@@slumburried i don't blame you, iirc it's a 6-8hour playthrough just by getting through the main story. and it doesn't make a lot of sense at first, but being able to dissect the lore and seeing how they come together is really great
I’m about ready to play it. It wasn’t on steam anymore and so someone sent me to a place where I could download it for free. I wish it was on steam, though, because every maker deserves to be paid.

there's way better stuff im gonna be honest, idk how many horror rpgs u played but aria's story is nothing great. Super long gameplay full of incredibly long puzzles without almost any lore for 90% of the game. Endings are nice, but getting all the lore after 6 hours of pain is not gratifing at all tbh. The witch's house has the same problem, the only reason it's popular is because it's one of the first games of the genre. Ib or especially Mad Father are way better titles, even though ib grafic isn't the best sadly. Puzzles and lore are merged together very nicely
I really love these underrated games, man. Even though It's hard to find someone who's willing to talk about it, it feels like finding a hidden gem that hasn't been found by many people and become mainstream. It feels like you're one of the few chosen ones. I wish these games would stay pure, because the bigger the fanbase, the more bad apples will join in. But I want the creators to receive more support. It's quite contradictory
pocket mirror is one of my favorite rpg maker horror games. it's so underrated. i have so many fond memories of playing the classic version with my best friend, how we voice acted the characters and cried and laughed throughout. i'm glad it got a remaster, and i hope more people recognize it. thanks for making this playlist!
I genuinely can't believe it, Midnight Train and Aria's Story is also featured here too! Pocket Mirror especially! Those 3 were all my favorites due to how underrated they are, but Pocket Mirror grew a lot. I'm so happy that this video exists.
honestly, The Witch's House is one of the best RPG Maker horror games i've played if you like vintage settings, horror, and a simple story but still good, i highly recommend!!

I loved them from the very beginning of middle school, and now I understand what a strong influence they had on me. And even though I'm a writer, not a gamedev or something like that, they inspired me a lot. It's sad that few people know about them, but it's also so great that we have a small community, and these games are like a secret to us Thanks again!
I love these pieces, but I want to give a special shoutout to a few. Pocket Mirror really surprised me by how good it was as a game and the soundtrack. Midnight Train is one of my favorites too, including both the original and RF music. And the music by Presence of Music (used by The Witch's House and Aria's Story in particular, tough others here too) is among the best RF music you can find.
I found this playlist a few months ago and I cant express how much I adore it. Makes me happy every time i listen to it, and it actually made me learn Ball Jointed on piano! I remember playing these games a long time ago, I really liked them.
Thank you for such a comment! I'm glad that this video has become a kind of island for rpg-maker games fans haha It's very cool that you can now play Ball Jointed on piano!
You have no idea how thrilled I am to find a couple themes from Bury in here. I played the game once with some friends nearly a decade ago and fell in love with it, but you can hardly find anything about it nowadays. I'm glad that, even if there's only two themes here, Bury hasn't been entirely forgotten. Thank you. :) EDIT: Also, these are some beautiful illustrations!! I love them so much. :D
Haha, I understand. I love this game myself and I am glad when it is mentioned somewhere. I have plans to upload a video with the OST from bury someday
@@milefiori7694 Yeah, Bury is pretty obscure. I don't know if the creator didn't want it translated (it was originally in Japanese, of course), or just wanted to get rid of it or something, but it was something along those lines. I think there's still a download link out there somewhere, but whenever one shows up, it doesn't stay up for long. In any case, Bury's a really nice RPG horror game inspired by nursery rhymes. Many of the characters and puzzles are based on them. The characters and overall story are quite good, in my opinion, and it's not too long, so it makes for a great way to spend the afternoon. :) Even if you're not able to play it for yourself, I believe there's a playthrough of the English version here on UA-cam.
