+Lucas Rodríguez Gómez Awesome! Yeah I realized I should have put my own interview in there but I started with the original Civ but i think switched to Civ 2 shortly after. Thanks so much for commenting! Planning more of these kinda videos.
Civ I, bought in a radio shack. I played it on my old Tandy 1000HX (an ancient 8088) and returned it because it seemed to freeze when starting a new game. Copied the disks for posterity. A month later, I tried again, and left the house for something. Turns out, it just took 30 minutes to get started! I was hooked as a kid, and took it to my boarding school and got everyone there hooked freshman year. It was a once in generation game, like Super Mario and Zelda. By the time of Civ 2, the entire school was obsessed, and I must have sold hundreds of copies over the years for Microprose. What a game!
played the first civ on the amiga, should be classified as class a substance, its that addictive, played tribe called quests midnight marauder album alot that summer, everytime through the years i heard one of those tracks Civ jumped right in front of my eyes, thnx sid for pirates aswell, two of my most played games together with elite, happy memorys
I was a fan of Sid Meier & Microprose since I got Pirates! in 1987. Played it on C-64 and later on Amiga 500. When the first Civilization came I had a PC with Intel 286/20, worked better in 486/50 which I got after my military service. Made graphic mods to Civ 2, which for me remains the most fun version. Made graphic mods also to Civ 3, but haven't really been interested to play Civilization after that.
Ah! I loved Heroes of Might and Magic, haven't played it in years. But yeah I spent a lot of time with that and Civ 1 and 2 as a kid. Thanks for commenting!
I remember one scenario where I was a small little Nation on the upper right corner of a continent everything was Dandy until I realized oh crap I have no iron I have no oil I looked around and realized the Japanese controlled oil fields to my Northwest and the Japanese also controlled iron to myself East I built up my forces attacked but I ended up at war with both the Japanese and the Greeks and what I had in my fleet had to fight their combined Navy as well. This was before I knew how to rush production so I had to build everything and by the end of the war I had conquered 95% of Greece and I conquered 20% of Japan in my Empire was three times the size it was before it entered the war which made me the most powerful Empire on the continent. Slowly but surely I started conquering all the nations on the continent I eventually overwhelmed and conquered all of Japan I still remember my strategies with that game.
Hey, everyone! Thanks for the support thus far. I want to try something new: If you watch the video and see something that seems inaccurate, please let me know! You can either drop it down here in the comments or send it to me on Twitter. For as much as I try to be 100% accurate, I am confident that I will miss facts from time to time.
Good presentation, might I mention a couple of things? First, an Avalon Hill board game from the 1980s, actually named CIVILIZATION, was influential to some extentl, no matter what the developers of the PC game CIVILIZATION (and their attorneys) might say. It's not too coincidental that the co-developer of this franchise, as mentioned in your video, had been an Avalon Hill veteran. Second, there was a Micro Prose game in the 1990s, a CIV spinoff, called COLONIZATION, set in the New World. And did it have randomizable maps too? I forget now...
+ZombiesMine Thanks so much for the kind words! I am working on another video for this series about The Elder Scrolls games so hopefully everyone enjoys that as well :) thanks again for commenting.
+Dylan L Haha thank you for the compliment. It can take awhile but I am grateful for the ones I have! Thanks for commenting, feel free to share the video. :)

me and my bro used to play civ2 to death. with the funny advisor fmv's lol....ahh good ole days. never tried civ1 played all civs from 2 up till current. Its a gem of a game.
That would actually be an interesting idea. I think they didnt add a Jewish civilization because otherwise there would be too many civilizations in that area.
Civilization has brought me so many beautiful sunrises
THIS WAS AWESOME!! Thank you for letting me be a part of this super fun and informative video! =D
Aww! Thanks so much for being a part of it! Glad you liked it!
Very nice!!!
I started playing when I was in high school, all the way back in 96. Civilization II.

As a newcomer to this franchise, and to 4X strategy games, this retrospective is absolutely awesome to watch!

+Seth H you are welcome! Thanks for commenting!
To this day still playing, still most hours I have invested in any game in my life over the series from 2 onward, with some time on Test of Time

I know people who find "their" version of Civ and like sticking with it.
Awesome video! Never really dug too deep into the history of Civ. Hope to see more.
Thanks so much! And thanks for commenting!
I love everything about this. Particularly the handsome chappie in the baseball cap.
+Phil The Conquistadork Thanks for being a part of it!
I have been playing Civ since Civ I on the Super Nintendo. Still think the Franchise is great. I am looking forward to Civ VII!
I played a lot of civ 2 back in the mid 90's. For me civ 2 and hom&m 3 are best games ever

+DeepVoice Gad Thanks so much!
Hot seat multiplayer civ 1. Yeah.... never ever worked
I've been playing Civ for years, but at the same time I am insulted they refuse to add a Jewish civilization.
That would actually be an interesting idea. I think they didnt add a Jewish civilization because otherwise there would be too many civilizations in that area.
"The game is black? Why is the game black?!" You have managed to personify exactly what disappoints me about so many people.
So her honest recollection about her first experience with a game, that she is a fan of, represents why you are disappointed in people?
Whatever man.
Is this you admitting you're a racist piece of shit, or....?
Yeah let’s pause the historical moments to interview kids that didn’t even play the franchise until Rev, Civ4 or Civ5. No wonder the few views
Haha fuck off
