Bobby was not only a great singer but a great entertainer as well. He was one of a kind. Too bad he died so young(37). If he were alive today he would be 79 and no doubt would still be singing and entertaining.
What I love about Bobby's voice, as opposed to Frank's and Dean's (who both had tremendous voices, of course), is that Darin could have sang any genre of music. When you hear him get into his upper register, he has this great gravely quality to this tone that would have been perfect for rock vocals in the late 50s and 60s. He also has a great operatic tone and is a fantastic tenor. And if you've ever heard the opening of Up a Lazy River, it's undeniable that his soft, melodic voice is one of the best in the industry. The guy, IMO, would have been famous singing anything. He didn't have to sing the "standards."
Well his first big hit was Splish Splash, and that was very much an early rock song. However, later in his career he moved to more ballad-ish stuff like Simple Song of Freedom, but he was still very much able to sing some of his earlier hits. He was truly a legend.
Hello, sorry to bother you, but to be honest, we haven't met before. I found your profile here. I see you as a good person. so I decided to add you and say hello. If you don't mind, I would like to get to know you better and I hope we can be good friends if you don't mind,he was the best 🎶❤️🔥
I am and always will be a Bobby Darin fan! He had it all together - musicality, confidence, you name it! He could rock it with Splish Splash, and then give you goose bumps with a ballad. He was a true showman! What a shame he died too young!

I love his insouciance in the introduction ,straight from a goofy 1960s American TV. What a talent he was ... song's got no ending. We don't want it end, do we ?
The end of the song is all about Vegas and confident performers doing what makes them so good. The song is finished and Bobby goes on, and damn it is almost better than the song, and it is all Bobby.
I never knew he was so talented.I had never seen him ..play piano & harmonica..he danced..imitated a trombone..Thanks for bringing to light all of his talents..Greetings from Puerto Rico where it's always spring & summer..He''s also very funny.
I discovered Bobby Darin in 2012 when I heard him singing 'Mack the Kjife'! I was growing up when he was famous and too young to appreciate his talent! Now totally different, what a sexy charismatic utterly masculine singer!
Bobby Darin was making a great comeback in the early 1970s with his own primetime variety show when he died during heart surgery. A truly sad tragic day when we lost this legendary performer.
What a talent. The old 'Vegas Days'... Man it would be fun to be able to go back and just watch them all. Kevin Spacey should have won an Oscar for his BD movie. Sounded perfect.
R.I.P Bobby Darin, its a shame.. U've made fantastic music and still listing to it. am 20 and I recognize what kind a time it was before the world went a madhouse. Thanks for your music, Fantastic songs. Now I have to dream alone.
Bobby truly was an "entertainer", reaching out and grabbing the audience. Ah yes, the days when there was a lot of 'good' music and Bobby could do it as well as anyone. Thanks for the memory!
I heard this just recently and burst into tears, and I'm a 71 year old rock drummer. Yes I'm still playing. Yes there are some artists that transcend --- um---- everything. What a singer and what a talent.
Watching this again AWESOME !!!!! Bobby Darin sings it best of all in his own style, the greatest, full stop….. I love the way he rocks it out and then recovers his swing…... Man is truly an icon, a treasure, multi-talented all rounder, genius and best ever entertainer this planet has seen or will ever see again…... Bobby's gorgeous cheeky smile just melts your heart and soul……. Remembered forever more, loved and sadly missed today after 40years….. Bobby RIP!!!!!!!!
My daughter and I danced to this song at her wedding reception. I think it was perfect for it, a good light hearted father-daughter tune with the perfect tempo.
This is Bobby Darin at the top of his game and rocking it out. He is a very funny man and his talent is endless. No matter what Bobby sings he always puts so much into every song digging deep into it heart and soul, then man oh, man does he deliver and some. This is music at it's best and a total performer. Love him dearly and miss him so. Spacey did his tribute to Bobby Darin and a good job at that.
He is a great singer nice and smooth with that umph and rhythm, he died to young both him and sandy. Miss his singing i wish i could of seen him in vegas.
I love how when he sings its so fluent and he has character in in his voice and performance. This is exactly what the teach us in jazz performance workshop.
Let's use words like class, razzmatazz, razzle-dazzle even. It was a different period of time he deserves more than just "swag". And no he didn't originate Swag (i wiki'd)
Bobby Darin was only 37 years of age when he died, during open heart surgery, in 1973. Robert Louis Stevenson once said, "love makes us believe in immortality because there seems not room enough in life for so great a tenderness and it is inconceivable that the most masterful of our emotions should have no more than the spare moments of a few brief years."
My Dad was born in 1953 and he doesn't listen to anything past 1979 so i started listening to all old songs and people now think that this is new :D I love Bobby Darin
Bobby Darin was a top performer who left us a plethora of great music. He had no set genre covering ballads, rock 'n' roll ,swing , C& W & general pop. This is a song to end many a night. Great post. Thank you very much.
What a tragedy that this talented singer had to die so young (37) from a rheumatic heart, something they're much better at fixing today. Think of all the decades of his music we've lost. He had a wonderful voice for swing and if alive today he'd only be 79 now.
I’m 73 and only two days ago did I begin to appreciate Bobby Darin. God, what have I done in my life?
I know, it's okay, we have to be older to truly appreciate genius.
I'm 72 y.o. Bobby is the best!

Agree
Hey Nick, I'm 16 too, I love the 50's music and I collect vinyls.
Good for you kid...............listen to more.
Other teens aren't typically exposed to music like this, at least not in appreciative environments.
Good for you *claps loudly*
He sings it with ease. The song just flows, no force. It's absolutely amazing.
Indeed!
Así es, cantaba con tanta naturalidad, es un placer escucharlo.
His whole carrier was just amazing. His heart gave out too soon and he was gone.
@@larrytischler570 He knew it would. He lived longer than he thought he would.
"Song ain't got no ending" is still one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
I just love his face like… “ok ok we get it… end the damn song”
Always love, Bobby no matter whether singing or acting. He was great and left this world too soon.
Bobby Darrin had that something that went beyond singing. If he sang it he owned. The world misses you Bobby.

Grandpa Can Cook that’s right
Grandpa Can Cook You can tell he loved what he did. He connects with the audience.
Lovely message but it's darin
I don't think anyone has ever had as much fun performing as Bobby did. Love it.
One of the most underrated artist of the 20th century
Bobby was not only a great singer but a great entertainer as well. He was one of a kind. Too bad he died so young(37). If he were alive today he would be 79 and no doubt would still be singing and entertaining.
And to think he did all this, whilst struggling with heart problems

+lemmh2 And he proved that with his cover of (e.g.) "Clementine" (okay, a 19th century American "standard").
+JudgeJulieLit lol well, I take your point nonetheless.
+lemmh2 I AGREE COMPLETELY!!!

It is an amazing age we live in; having a huge variety of music at our finger tips is just a huge privileged, thank you.
WOW just WOW. Wish I had seen him perform live.
Good listening to all. Rip. Bobby.
Probably heard this song hundreds of times, but I never noticed him panic and plead with the musicians.
Extremely skilled / music/ holding audience interest/ witty!!!
"Cool" & HAWT
at the same time
I love how he can sing so well without moving his mouth a lot
It's a jazzy version of Charles Trenet's French hit song "La Mer". I love them both!
Me too.
Bobby Darin is so talented and handsome
He was so cool and hip! And this song is one of my jams for the evening.
Hello Terry, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus??
Bobby Darin the very definition of COOL.
I love how when he sings its so fluent and he has character in in his voice and performance. This is exactly what the teach us in jazz performance workshop.
a great performer and a lot of fun personality. And a halfway decent actor too.

now THATS an artist. improvising lyrics at the end of the song. and still sounding fantastic and smooth-flowing.
Hum... Marvellous Bobby Darin.
He actually says "suave" near the end, but with a long "a" soung, humorously, of course. Very funny man and smooth, too!!
I just watched the movie on Bobby's life played by Kevin Spacey and he should have won for that performance. Wow..
What's the movie called? That sounds interesting especially since Spacey is a great actor
Louis Auto "Beyond The Sea".
Louis Auto Beyond The Sea, it was actually Kevin Spacey's lifelong dream to make the movie, he sung all the songs and did excellently.
Kevin had Bobby's voice down to a tee. He did a fantastic job as Bobby. Excellent movie.
they dont make music like this anymore...
This song makes me so happy. I listen to it at least once a week.. silly, but it works for me! Thanks for posting this video..
