Ooh that final gunshot on the mig 19 must have felt amazing. Also you can jettison those wing pylons by select jettison pylons switch (down), hold jettison button for a couple of secs, then put the switch back to safe (or you won’t be able to fire missiles)
The flap use might have something to do with my F-5 < MiG-21 stance - I have played around with them a little bit, but felt that the turn rate loss wasn’t worth the energy retention most of the time, but I can see it probably being worth it to recoup energy bleed when being slash attacked by someone with more than you. I did a few 1 Vs. 1s with a mate the other week and he trashed me in the 21 every time and it really felt like there was nothing I could do - I even said to him at the time that in actual multiplayer servers they never give me that much grief, but in a sterile testing environment with no outside factors, starting with a head on merge? Maybe the flaps would give me that edge but it’s either a better plane or he’s a better pilot than every other MiG-21 I’ve encountered, the standard skill level must be very low comparing my success Vs randoms and then against him. The pylon jettison thing must be something I forgot in my 8 month break because I knew there was a reason I set my keybinds to favour single and not “all” on the 3 way switch. @@Bullet4MyEnemy I think if you were 1v1 fighting on a dogfight server the f5 has far more gas than I would ever dogfight with on enigmas. It waddles when it’s got more than 2600 pounds of fuel. Whereas the mig21 barely cares what it’s fuel state is.

Thanks man, just been gifted the dosh for a new module by my partner as a Christmas present and I’m s t r o n g l y considering the MiG-21 - already have the 19, so it’s either the 21 or the F-1… What’s your take?
@@Bullet4MyEnemy I don’t have the 19 or the F-1 but I do really enjoy the 21. It’s just a hot rod. Not really the best in a fight but a ton of history. Plus the constant peg campaign is epic. Edit: I do think being solid in the 21 will make you a better pilot because you have to manage the AoA and power so much.
That first kill on the Alby would have been a perfect opportunity to use the radar gun sight. Take HEI ammo only load for air to air, and use the radar gun sight, and you will find the guns work just fine. Start with a missile lock up, and then switch to dogfight guns mode, and the radar will track. All of your gun kills would have been easier with it. IMO: the F-5 is by far the superior plane when compared to the mig-21 in a knife fight. The 21 has an advantage in air to air load out being that it has more pylons, and better power to weight, but it is nowhere near as good in a one circle fight as the F-5.
From my testing I think it’s more the standard of pilot than the plane, Maguire who I fly with quite regularly absolutely thrashed me when we did F-5 Vs. MiG-21. On Enigma’s I generally do ok picking 21s apart, but in my 1 Vs. 1 testing I lost every time, often after forcing a close scissor and watching him flop around like a salmon, he’d still manage to reign it in well enough to make me overshoot and saw my wing off. I do well enough in the F-5 to say that it’s pretty damn close, but a better pilot can offset the F-5’s (imo) best advantage, which is low speed stability. Thinking of buying the 21 over the F-1 for Christmas so I’ll be able to better test for myself from the other side of the fight. I’ll keep trying with the radar gunsight, I did recognise that situation as being perfect for it but I’ve been burned before in similar situations where it’s either bugged out or not been stable enough to be of use, so I’ve been favouring eyeballing it. Already found that the HEI rounds are the best, guns barely tickle the target with combat mix, I think that realisation is what turned the tide for me with the F-5 because the guns sucked so hard prior to that I was ready to write it off lol.
@@Bullet4MyEnemy tell you what. I'll do a tutorial on how I use the radar gun sight in the F-5. The switchology is key. Do that enough, and the 21 starts to look like a pussy cat.
@@iflycentral I do think that how I’ve got the keys set makes me reluctant to bother. Much as I love the MiG-21 I have to contest the idea that it is 'better in every way'. Visibility in the MiG-21 is just hilariously terrible compared to the F-5. That alone is a huge advantage for the Tiger II. The gunsight on the F-5 is vastly superior to that of the MiG, which is pretty much useless against anything but a heavy bomber or cargo plane. F-5 has much more cannon ammo, can afford to take more marginal shots, and will land hits more frequently - a MUCH better gun platform. No roll trim on the MiG-21. No dogfight radar mode on the MiG-21. No ability to uncage missiles and lead the target on the MiG, which is huge in a dogfight. AAM's take significantly longer to come off the rails. VERY small missile lock area in the MiG-21 gunsight compared to the F-5. MiG pilots have to settle the bandit in the HUD considerably longer than an F-5 driver. The RWR on the MiG-21 is extremely limited compared to the F-5's. 5 pylons on the MiG-21 vs 7 on the F-5. The F-5 can carry 2x AAM's plus fuel tanks and still carry a respectable bomb/rocket load, whereas the MiG-21 really has to pick A2A or A2G. No ability to ripple bombs on the MiG-21. AIM-9P5 is superior to anything carried by the MiG-21. That's just a few off the top of my head. Of course the F-5 has its idiosyncracies, but it's every bit a match for the MiG-21.
Couldn’t believe it when I watched the footage back, a part of me is wondering whether he just bailed to give me a teamkill when he could’ve otherwise made it back, because the idea that 2 shots from these guns can do that to a friendly, but an enemy takes 100 shots seems a little sus 😅
