Just out of curiosity, why should you restrict toy access? Would that not cause an active/bored dog/puppy to play or chew things they shouldn’t? I understand having a toy rotation or keep some toys for set play times, but wouldn’t they benefit having a few always accessible toys and chews?
Great channel! I'm having a bit of trouble training my now 10 week old dachshund pup I've had for 2 weeks. Here in the central USA, we're having extreme cold Temps well below below freezing. He's very reluctant to go out so I carry him out and try to set him in a snow less spot. He seems to be grasping the concept but not every time.
Just starting to get familiar with Doxies. They get cold very easily will need warm jackets. I've heard that a company in the Uk ( or possibly Canada) make nice wool coats specifically for Doxies. I will also look for an additional water proof jacket. I'm also looking for safe-non toxic blankets.
Don’t have ours yet, but from family experience they hate the cold, it can fuck up their backs and joints which is a very sensitive situation for them. One family member had one that got older and moved to south US and apparently the dogs entire life changed. Hopefully you figured something out!
@dsss282 Aww how is she? A few weeks for my sons for us. We've got Oonagh for our girl. It was between that or either Harley, Callie, Nalah & Star. What did you go for? Hope all is well and you're in love with her 🥰.
I take my puppy to consistently all day and the only time she seems to have an accident is late evening when it’s time to settle . She gets the zoomies and then wees without any warning. Also over night we put paper down and she always wees and pops on that and we are up at 6 am . What do you suggest for overnight ? She is 11 weeks and we have had her two days
Great to know this. I have Dachshund 2 yrs old and i want to learn more about his character, looking forward to watch more of ur vids, thanks new subscriber here🇮🇪👍
Hey guys awesome video, very relevant content. I have been thinking about getting a dachshund puppy, however, I feel I am holding myself back due to my availabilities. For example, I will be able to take a week of work once getting the puppy for training, etc, however, when I go back to work I will not be able to come home through the day to let him/her out of the play pen. Will this affect the training consistency and is this an appropriate approach?
We have a 15 year old chihuahua that has accidents Bc of age now. In 3 weeks we are picking up a dachshund pup. If I stick to this potty training STRICTLY will it still work if she can still smell the elderly dogs accident? I clean it up obviously but I’m told dogs can still smell it.
We are wanting to get a doxie puppy, but it’s winter here. Temps normally around -4 to 7 degrees Celsius and sometimes chillier is cold bouts. Do you think it would be too hard to potty train and/or detrimental to puppy health? Is it better to wait until spring?
Dachshunds REALLY hate toileting in the cold/rain, and are already a pretty difficult breed to toilet train generally, so I think that would be harder than with another breed of dog
Mark sure that you have warm & waterproof jacket(s). I might be in the minority, but- I wouldn't blame you if you also litterbox trained your mini since it gets SO cold there.
Really appreciate your reply..thanks 👍 will be ordering some fenrir products soon as I'm ready an confident I've done enough research to bring a puppy home
Thanks for watching! On our dedicated training channel we have a video looking at how to best introduce a new puppy to an adult dog: ua-cam.com/video/RX8VL4K_03c/v-deo.html

Hey Olivia, we'd always recommend there being a 'lead' trainer but it's good that everyone in the house is on the same page when it comes to training. Dogs will learn so much fast with consistent training!
