    This makes a lot more sense. For sumo, my following pull reps are much easier than my first pull. My best pull form is how I pull after bringing the bar back down.

    Its also why you're generally stronger with your 2nd rep + in your set and less so for your first rep. At least that's been my experience.

    If I have the mobility to open up my legs at the start of sumo deadlift and unable to maintain this position through the left, is it going to be optimal to be in this fully externally rotated and abducted position at the start or a little less than that will be better for strength?

    Mine is hybrid-frog-semi sumo position. It's called semi sumo but it's more similar to conventional.

    Good tip, its always sad to see people dropping the weight on deadlifts during training, but there is so much strength and positioning to be build on eccentrics
