Close to 40 and been singing this song since I was 8. Raised in NYS.

I grew up in Michigan surrounded by the Great Lakes. I sang this song when I was a child. Now I'm 60 and I still sing it.
I turned 50 this past December. As a grade school student above Albany we sang this song in music class.
We sang this song in my 5th grade class. Teacher played piano in the room and every time we sang "low bridge everybody down"" we all had to duck down. It was fun and its part of America history. Love the old american folk songs.

I was a 4th grader in a small town in Tennessee..and we kids loved that “low bridge, everybody down” part too! We all ducked as we sang that part. 55+ yrs later: I still know all the words of this song 😊😎
We had a Feld trip today to the Erie Canal in east Syracuse

Just came off a boat travelin' down the Erie Canal.. Have known this song my whole life but never heard Springsteen sing it. very cool!
I remember learning this song in music class in the 60's, the music teacher played piano....and I found out later he was quite the accomplished pianist, at the time I was a stupid kid, but I still like this song and Mr Springsteen does a very cool cover.
Oh my goodness, my teacher in 1st grade (1969) played the piano too and this was one of the songs. I loved it!
Every day the teacher would ask each student what song they wanted to hear. When it was my turn, I always said "Erie Canal." The teacher finally got fed up with me always choosing the same song and scolded me, "Pick something else besides 'Erie Canal'!!!"
I sang this in grade school in the early 1960s. Pops to the front of my mind a couple times a year. Like today.

I learned of this song in the late 90’s when I was in kindergarten from my grandfather it’s definitely a timeless classic
Now I see what happens when a musician is also an artist and sees where and hears where we all came from. Thanks, Boss. I won't forget this.

I watched an hour long special on the Erie Canal. "Low Bridge - Everybody Down" that's a real thing. I was moved by the owners attachment to his pal Sal - his mule that pulled the boat. Very moving song with great rhythm & feeling.
Oh yeah. That's a real thing. This song is real history. That's what makes it great- that's what gives it it's heart. And Bruce makes you feel that history as living history!
My 4th grade class learned this song from our school’s Music Teacher…the school was located in Tullahoma, TN. I still know all the words…many decades later. I just assumed all elementary school kids in the US were taught the Erie Canal song. It’s a fun song for kids, plus a fun way to learn some US history. 😁👍
i like how he steps away at the very end and you hear the background singers. And the violins love violins
I was just reading some history on the packet boats that carried passengers on the Erie canal and how they had to duck under the low bridges. This song sprang into my mind from my childhood. Bruce made this song more wonderful than I could imagine. Love this.

This wonderfully sweet, yet sad song heals my heart.
Not even a new Yorker . My mom taught me this song when I was young. We are from California. Now I have my 7 year old daughter singing it. My kids get a kick out of these old songs. Next are all the patriotic songs we sang after the pledge of the allegiance.
I remember we all had to one by one sing this in elementary school, and my teacher decided that because I was Irish, I had to do it unaccompanied XD

I’d love working on the Erie Canal lol, it sounds like fun simple work for that time period. They dragged shipping boats using mules with a rope from the side of the canal, but this song was actually written in like the 1930s i think.

I also sang this song in the sixth grade music class. I love your voice and the instruments. It all sounds exactly right for the time in history for which it was written.
I can remember singing this song in grade school during vocal class. It's awesome going forward almost fifty years and hearing Bruce's rendition. No offense to old classmates, but they sound world's better than we ever did. But nice effort, Sister Pierre. 😁

I used to say that the live version of 'The Rising' from the Concert For New York back in 01 or 02 is the greatest thing Bruce has done since the 1970's. I may be wrong. This may be the best thing he has ever done- including 'Born To Run' even! Wow! I have never heard folk done with more integrity and sense of personal history. You can really feel the emotions of the people who worked the Erie Canal! Thank you, Bruce!
We used to play hockey on the canal growing up. Grew right up on the hill from it.

Fifteen YEARS on the Erie Canal...but yeah, loved it.
The dray relay runs were fifteen miles. The canal itself had lifetimes.
Two versions. 15 MILES is what was taught at school and the Erie Canal runs through both of my childhood towns. Only heard years version today first time.
15 miles was about how far they cold cover in a day so we learned at the canal village in Rome
