@@cynthiadubois6392 Oh my gosh, yes! I've always loved Cat Stevens, but I never knew HE wrote this song! I just found this out, after all these years! Rod Stewart made it famous, I guess (and I thought he wrote it).

I don't understand how come, that people like Puff Daddy are adored and praised, but a man like Cat Steven - who is gifted by God with his talent and his voice - is not.
Your fans know you wrote it and I corrected a New Zealand radio station when they attributed it to Rod Stewart. They refused to rectify by informing listeners so I stopped listening to the Breeze as it was then called.

Cat Stevens with so much God given talents should never have quit music, his lyrics and vocals made all his music special, it did take awhile but he did get into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

This is such a therapeutic song for me, the best song about teenage heartbreak. I'm a fan of yours always, Yusuf.
Interestingly enough, this song has nothing to do with romance or his relationship with a woman. This song is dedicated to his dogs. He was talking to his second dog after his first dog had passed away. It’s clearly a play on the subject, but the intended targets were his dogs.

As Cat Stevens he was a classic songwriter, in the late 1960s, and early '70s. Moonshadow, Wild World, Father and Son, Lady D'Arbanville, Ruby Love, The Wind, are just a few of his great tracks.
Cat's Decca days resulted in great music but his Island Records releases were poetry, mind provoking, and still relevant today.
I've bought your latest CDs but they don't speak to me as much as your music from my youth.
@@voulafisentzidis8830 Teaser and the Firecat, Tea for the Tillerman and Mona Bone Jakon, a brilliant trio of albums from the early '70s. He was definitely on a hot songwriting streak. Great albums.
@@kevanbrown7620 I also loved his fourth, Catch Bull At Four, and fifth, Foreigner. Still play all five 50 years later.

I have Teaser, Tea for Tillerman and Mona Bone Jakon, plus a compilation the very best of Cat Stevens which is a good collection, but thanks for bringing those 2 albums to my attention, I will definitely look them up. @@kevanbrown7620 I stopped buying his albums after Buddha and the Chocolate Box (his 6th on Island Records) as it was obvious his heart wasn't in it.
It's great that you search for great music. As a youngster growing up in the 60s and 70s I couldn't keep up with the number of great albums being released. Today it takes me a year to find one album of interest.

Sounds like you are sad about that, but I hope you won't be. 60 is not old. You can do volunteer work, as well as things you enjoy in retirement, and/or work somewhere that they do not have any laws mandating requirement. And I hope you do get to hear Cat Stevens live. He'd be worth it.

@@jambrenn7843 No problem at all, as we all have different tastes, I like both versions of the song but Rod Stewart just wins for me, I like you, usually prefer the originals but have exceptions, including Lucy in the sky with diamonds, of which I prefer Elton John's cover version rather than the original Beatles song. What if Cat never wrote or was never recorded" The first cut is the deepest or it's a Wild World". We would be missing so much, I'm also upset with Cat because he quit music so soon he was at his most creative aspect.
