@gregorykeithmorris3970 I disagree. I think Rosie made it seem like The Cat was a grumpy old cat who could silly with no expressions. I saw especially at the end of Oh The Thinks you Can Think with that pose she did. She's kinda like the original 1980s Chuck E Cheese now that I think about it. And also she didn't even have the right range for the songs.
@@Nerdy_Chuck_E I agree with this!! Also, it’s kind of obvious with this show closing on Broadway why they’d cast her. She constantly promoted Seussical on her show. It’s a shame that they were casting celebrities who lacked ability for the character, especially Cat in the Hat!!
I sorely miss her constant on air championing of the Broadway theater. For folks like me who grew up not going to NYC, her show brought Broadway to me and I will forever be grateful to Rosie. I love that she got to live out her dream in this and Fiddler years later. Thank you Spiderwoman for posting!
I have a soft spot for this show... I think it's so charming and fun. Rosie was a perfect fit for this role... what an incredibly energetic performance. The Weisslers sure do know how to stunt cast! As always, this peek into your collection is gratefully appreciated.
You're entirely welcome, and glad you enjoyed. "Seussical" was a thoroughly professional effort, and Ahrens and Flaherty do quality work. Not sure there was ever a way to make the concept of this show fully work, but it did not deserve the complete dismissals it received in some quarters.
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 Agreed! The score is incredibly underrated, and there are many clever lyrics. The style is a format I've always enjoyed... the delicate balance of recognizing and enjoying the actors, but also having to look beyond them to let your imagination take over. Unfortunately, that's not something many critics are able to do, resulting in unfair dismissals. As evidenced here, this must have been an absolute marathon of a performance to physically undertake every night. It deserved a better reception!
Suessical was such a fun show. Totally underrated. I got to see the original cast and they were all sooooo good! The elephant....played by Kevin something er other, was my fave.

Wow, Ann Harada and Casey Nicholaw in the ensemble! Aurora, if you're taking requests, have you ever considered compiling all your "My Fair Lady" endings? Seems like there are so many variations and you must have several of them?

Every single video I've seen on this channel has amazing video quality, especially considering the time when they were filmed. Are these bootlegs, or footage shot by a professional that was somehow leaked?
BRO HOW DID YOU FIND THIS? I THOUGHT THERE WAS ONLY ONE RECORDING OF ROSIE O DONNEL FROM FEBRUARY 9TH??? WHAT DAY IS THIS?? WHERE CAN I FIND THE FULL VERSION?
am I the only one who's noticed that the script has changed in the opening? Whenever I see a newer rendition of this show, the lyrics are different, especially in regards to the Cat.
Hot take: I actually prefer David Shriner as the Cat over Rosie. No disrespect towards Rosie, but I don't think this abrasive Brooklyn-accented take works for the Cat.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the BEST example of When Stunt Casting Actually Does Work.
It's like Marie Osmond in The Sound of Music or Reba as Annie Oakley.

I think she made a good Cat in the Hat

Very well said, thank you.
She also did Grease in the 90s and is apparently set to play Mrs Brice in the long-awaited Funny Girl revival on Broadway.
Her and Megan Mullally were in Grease in the 90s
Now it’s James Cordon that’s the broadway guy which is less than loved
"How lucky to be in the theater! More lucky than you know"
*cries in pandemic*
Hearing the audience go nuts during "The Day with The Cat in the Hat" made me remember how much I miss live theater.
Thank you for posting this! She really said I am going to play cat and the hat but I am mostly just just going to be me with a hat on haha.
Exactly. That's pretty much what the audience expected and she did not disappoint.
1:25 the most aggressive with a cherry on top I’ve ever heard in my life geez
If this opened with Rosie and the intimacy of the final script, I do think it could have taken a tony or original Boston cat

Man, this just makes me wish I could have seen the original Broadway shows back in the day. Makes a man wanna make time travel possible.
Saaame

Kevin Chamberlain
I never knew she played this role! This was so cool!
Didn't even realize she went on in this role! Thanks for posting!
It was also to increase ticket sales since the show was never a hit during its short run.
Wonderful. This is so cute. She's perfect.
She is DELIGHTFUL
This was amazing! Man I wish I was old enough to see this back then.
I wish I was born 😭😭😭
I was about to comment this again 😭
I Wanna Feel The Way You Made Me Feels When I'm With Rosie O'Donnell
5:42 "WOW!" haha.
Thank you, Aurora, i really wanted to see something like this - funny and silly. And Rosie was perfect for this part.
Funny and silly is a good description--glad you enjoyed.
when i found out cameron bowen the voice of licorice cookie was in seussical, i didn't know he was with rosie o donnell in that show.
FANTASTIC!!!!

Does anyone have a recording of Eric playing the General?
Every single video I've seen on this channel has amazing video quality, especially considering the time when they were filmed. Are these bootlegs, or footage shot by a professional that was somehow leaked?
The former.
Are you obsessed with seussical?
Very much so!
100% yes!
It pains me to admit it, but I like her better than David in the role.
I am totally in agreement with you on this! Wish I was able to see this.
Rosie O'Donnell is the cat in the hat
This is so incredible to see! aurora do you know if this from a full recording of the show or is it just these bits?
Tootsie Wootsie Rosie O'Donnell

one of the biggest flops ever
@Josh Bennett Although ultimately not, as the show has had a long post-Broadway life.
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 ya i do agree with that. my local community theatre has produced it twice.
