Sleepy beach vibes, sand dunes, and warm, breezy summers. This hotspot in North Carolina’s Outer Banks brings kiteboarders and beachgoers from all over the USA and Canada to come claim their picture perfect beach vacation. This is a spot you’ve definitely heard about… Cape Hatteras. This long, narrow island divides the Pacific Ocean from the infamous Pamlico Sound - known for it’s semi-flat shallow water that stretches for miles.
With so much water both on the surf side and the sound side, Hatteras has plenty of kiteboarding hotspots and hidden gems. Whether you’re looking for a classic beach holiday or a family friendly kiteboarding destination, the towns scattered along Hatteras Island have a whole lot to offer! We’ll give you the run down on everything you need to know about kiteboarding in Hatteras, and some travel tips to get you started.

We go every year, its awesome. You can literally do fun ocean downwinders, slicks, and sliders all in one day. The "L" shape of the island allows this

Nothing beats a Hatteras Downwinder, catching a ride back and grabbing a well deserved dinner with friends! - Rygo

Psst. Hatteras is on the Atlantic Ocean, not the "Pacific Ocean." But what's 3,000 miles between friends.

I and most of the kiteboarding world disagree with the Spot Overview scores. Seriously, a 7 out of 10 for the Slicks? The area is consistently rated one of the best spots in the world for kiteboarding and definitely in the US. Why is Ocean underneath the Slick score? The Slick is on the sound side. Then there is the Beginner score of 8 out of 10. Real Watersports is an awesome place to learn kiteboarding. Interested in knowing what destinations have received a 10 in any of these categories.

Search Surf or Sound Reality’s site for “Solar Reflections” that’s my rental condo. Kiter friendly and right near planet of the apes and REAL Kiteboarding!

Did you even go there for this review??? You called the Atlantic, the Pacific. You mispronounced local places. Are you just using file footage for this review? Isn't this kinda like doing a car review just by watching youtube and not really driving the car????

Steve Cox Hi Steve, Crystal does visit all the locations in this series. She also films most episodes on her own. This particular episode I filmed myself a couple weeks before she visited. Sorry about the slip ups on this one. As the editor I usually catch mistakes but I dropped the ball on some pretty funny ones. I hope you found a glimmer of use out of this one. Cheers - Rygo
