    Not bad! I'd add a chap stick and a small stick of Sun screen cause I resemble a lobster after about 2 hours lol.

    Nice video as always. I would add one of the sol emergency 2 person blankets. Also add some needle and thread like other people have said. But a small plastic bag or altoids tin with fishing hooks , weights, swivels and a few small lures. Plus replace one of the cordage packs with fishing line. Maybe add a beef stick or cliff bar. That would round it one nicely.

    • @toryknotts8026

      I think the blanket is. I know the one in the scout is a two person one. His review on it convinced me to get it. 25 bucks at my local Target

    Interesting set of choices.
    Personally I would add a larger Swiss Army Knife (real one) that has sissors & a saw on it.
    A tub of BCB waterproof matches & a couple of wetfire cubes.

    ...the tincture of benzoin is used to help secure the wound closure strips in place. Also, do you think you could review the Henry survival kit at some point? Looks like a good kit, but a review would be great. Thanks again and keep the reviews coming!

    I wouldn't have thought a few zip ties and a few feet of Duct Tape would qualify as a gear repair kit, but other than that it's not too bad.
    Thanks for showing us this kit.

    For roughly the same price, you can put a Gerber Dime in the same space as that Victorinox and it makes a real big difference. That kit is also a bit shy of personal defense, animal or whateverwise.

      It's much cheaper to make your own kit buying similar items individually but I suppose these kits are good if you don't have the time or don't want to spend time making your own. I still reccomed adding some items here and there to make it more complete

    Diphenhydromine can also be used as a sleep aid, rest is something often overlooked in a survival situation, lack of rest leads to more calorie needs, and bad judgement, an exhausted person rarely thinks things through to the best of their ability,

  • @pietrayday9915
    @pietrayday9915 11 місяців тому

    Fifty bucks feels a bit pricey for what is included here - the first aid part was definitely the star of this show. The curious omissions of storm matches, proper knife/multi-tool, water tablets and bag, sewing or fishing kit, and other common survival kit items left this feeling a bit skimpy after the strong start from the first aid side. I did like the fire striker, iodine vial, generous amount of antiseptic solution, and other items I don't think I've seen from any other manufacturers, but not enough so that I'd pay full price for this kit. Not horribly bad, but it would have needed a lot of help to push it over the top - fortunately, you kitbashed it with some good upgrades!

    Great choice of supplies to augment the survival kit. However, as someone else mentioned, a more comprehensive Swiss Army knife (to include scissors, awl, and saw) would prove useful.

    I bought one, and I thought a lot of the components were substandard, bag and medical components not waterproof or resistant, the diangle cut of the zippers for main pouches are awkward and you have trouble taking items out or in. Basically it's someone dumped in 2 cut down cheaper versions of doug ritter kit personal amk kits. Not worth the money in my opinion.

    I am watching this video and reading all the comments about what people would add to it. I think the best way to use this kit, in my humble opinion, is to get a USGI Buttpack and stuff a military poncho, with or without the woobie, inside. You can also add in some energy bars or beef jerky whatever you like as well as all the additions that he mentioned that he would add to the kit. Then, if you aren’t packing the woobie, this will fit inside the buttpack with the rest. Otherwise you can attach the kit to the waist strap of the buttpack utilizing the handle of the kit. You can wear it around your waist, over your shoulder, or crossbody.

      Another great video review! Again, your additions were spot on! I recently purchased two of these kits at $30.00 each! Great bargain. FYI, after cleansing a cut, and drying the area, the tincture of benzoin is used by applying the solution on each side of the wound, letting dry, then applying the wound closures by pulling on one side, which brings the two sides of the wound together and applying the other end of the to the opposite side of the wound

    Also, with the "leave the large bag at camp, and go around with the small" is funny it isn't that big. That said is you realize you need to use the contents, it is wise not to keep everything in that pouch, but to spread out the contents of the kit about your person so as not to risk total loss if you were to have worse luck than what started the emergency that required the survival kit to begin with. Military survival schools preach this, point early on.
    The medical side could use some reinforcement, the Survival/repair side was in a nutshell a disappointment, I've seen better Altoids tin kits, granted it's a start. The water bag water treatment tabs were a great idea. Still Instead of two folding knives, a folding and a "small enough to fit" fixed blade would have been a better choice.
    I probably wouldn't buy the kit myself, but if given as a gift, I'd look at it as something to fiddle with and try to max it's potential.
    Thanks for the video.

    Interesting! The First Aid side is a lot more comprehensive than the Survival and Tools side, that's for sure. Not too much you'd need to add to the former. The latter could use some work! Your additions should go a long ways towards making it a useful kit.

    It was smart of them to leave out a knife and or multitool.
    They'd have to include junk, and you should always have these things on you everyday anyways.
    If theres nothing else you need to add and you don't feel like you're making it bulkier than adding knives seems fine, but as always I just don't get the idea of having knives in a survival kit.

    • @KitbashedSurvival

    That compartmentalization idea is one that Cody Lundin stresses in his book "98.6 degrees, The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive". It makes things easier to find when it matters. I was thinking I'd use that little blue pouch for that purpose rather than detaching it and leaving the rest of the kit behind where it would be useless. It seems to me, the placement of the zippers off the corner to corner diagonal of the pouches makes the opening smaller and harder to use. In a survival situation where stress and hypothermia could compromise coordination that could be vital.

    • @KitbashedSurvival
      @KitbashedSurvival  4 роки тому +4

      I'm a pretty careful person, so fortunately I've never found myself in a life or death survival situation. I tend to view my kits as backup for my primary gear. With that said, I have had to tap into my survival kits on backpacking trips when my primary gear failed. For example, one time my primary water filtration system broke and so I had to go into my survival kit and use the water purification tablets for the remainder of the trip. The "kits" that I've actually used the most are the get-home bags I keep in my cars.

      There's other items out there that would be more inline with a kit like this, and not a blowout kit. You can google "BLOOD STOP" and all kinds of things pop up that are MUCH cheaper and geared toward a nasty cut and not a gun shot wound. This is one I kinda like.

    no offense but those kits are complete garp for real bug out or emergency situations. The first aid articles are for minor cuts and irritations. If you are serious about a survival kit ..you need to invest in a Trauma kit for emergency aid. the rest of the items are not only hyped up junk with no real emergency use, except for maybe just some minor one time use. All of the items on the emergency side can be compiled from a hardware store or seven -eleven for about 15 bucks top.The kit is literally 15 bucks of stuff , in a 10 dollar nylon bag that they are selling to you for 35 dollars. I'm not trying to be harsh..just realistic..it is overpriced bunk.A true survival kit should be ten times it's size and include useful items such as emergency fire starting gear , folding saw,good knife or two, water purification filter , and tablets,emergency rope, and lightweight compact shelter, emergency food and water ...etc etc...

    • @KitbashedSurvival
      @KitbashedSurvival  4 роки тому +4

      I'll have to respectfully disagree with you. I have trauma kits and bug out bags and this kit is not trying to be for either of those. It's a general purpose kit...something fairly lightweight to take on a backpacking trip or a day hike or something of that nature.
