    A smart lipo is only smart for a charger cause it has the center wire. There's no smart for plugging in Avian esc cause it doesn't have the center wire. That is why any lipo will work and get flight pack telemetry

      Ha! You're right! I hadn't even noticed there was no center wire on the ESC. Gonna pin your comment, thanks for the correction Flyer Mikey!

      A bit more info on the "smart" ESC wire. I'm using an Avian Lite ESC. The non "lite" Avian ESCs do have the center wire so will collect additional battery data. Without the smart wire, any battery will provide pack volts but for cell voltage all the telemetry does is divide the total volts by the number of cells so it won't tell you if you have a low cell. You need a non lite esc for that.

      @@shanesdiy Hey Shane, I have all of my eflite lite smart ESCs that come with for example the Super Timber, Commander 1.4 - all give me per cell voltage in telemetry. I see the cell 1 2 3 and so on. As soon as I switch to my more expensive Avian Smart 100 AMP (non lite) receivers - I only get the pack voltage EVIN in telemetry. I tried to delete and discover new, but the cell 1 2 3 do not show. Is this an issue with my radio master Zorro not updated fully? Why would the cell counts show for LITE, but not the better non lite 100 amp avian smart?
      Thank you sir for doing gods work here on the channel.

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  Місяць тому

      @@rajnificent The cell voltage on the "Lite" ESC's is just a calculated value, not actual cell voltage. It just divides the total voltage with the number of cells so it is a little misleading. If you notice the Lite ESC's do not have the center data wire on the battery connector and you get this "cell voltage" when using any battery, doesn't matter if it is a Smart battery.
      The non lite ESC's have the center data wire so to get cell voltage they must be used with Smart Batteries I believe and it will actually be true cell voltage when you get it.
      That said, what version of EdgeTX do you have and do you have the current DSM Tools scripts to get the "DSM Smart RX script"? That script will get you more "Spektrum Type" flight log and battery data screens within the script. Also, I believe it was in version 2.10.3 (might be off one digit) some changes with Spektrum telemetry were implemented when I pointed out some issues and worked with one of the developers to clean it up. Would be a good idea to update EdgeTX and DSM Tools (I have a recent video on updating DSM Tools on the Zorro).

      @@shanesdiyah crap! This whole time my flights are based on the cell 1 2 3 calculations haha
      I use timers, but I’m a bit of a data nerd and pushing the limits of my timer.
      I just upgraded to x.10.5? I think is the latest. Was previously using x.10.1
      I’m on my way to the flight field now, will try to discover new sensors after the update! Keep you posted and thank you as always for the educational content!! 🎉

      So far, my very first Edgetx experience has been on the new GX-12. My experience has not been good. The model profiles lose their configured data and I have yet to figure out why. I keep having to restore the models from backup. This flaw also keeps reverting the channel order back to RETA from what I have read is supposed to be the Edgetx default of AETR.
      They have released this radio with an operating system version that cannot be downloaded yet, and none of the apps that are used to work with Edgetx support this radio yet.
      Shame on me for buying into an untried radio.

      I came from Spektrum. My DX8e NEVER EVER gave me any problems! Everything just worked all the time. The only problem I had with it was the fault of Betaflight, not the radio.

    You don't need a smart lipo . I'm using a dumb lipo and can get flight voltage in total and for each cell on my Zorro using a Avian esc

      Default only reads down to one decimal place. I'll experiment and see if I can find a way to go down 2 or more decimals.

    Do you know how to setup telemetry log graphs as widget? For example I would like to log my altitude during flight and have those data points displayed in a graph on a telemetry screen. On a Spektrum transmitter that is standard I think...

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  2 місяці тому

      There is a log viewer script which I'll link below. You would activate the logging function which is a Special Function that will be saved on the SD card in the /LOGS folder, then export to a PC for later viewing or use the log viewer script. I am not aware of a real time screen widget for that.

    How to get the radio to stop saying low battery once you land and radio on? My airplane is below voltage after landing and I’ve unplugged it and it’s still saying low battery. Thanks

      After this video I tweaked mine a bit. The logical switch (L25 in the video) now has a 15 second delay vs 3 sec. in the video, this reduces false alarms. To get the call out to stop when done flying, add your throttle enable switch to the "AND switch" in the logical switch (L25 in the video). I use SH for throttle cut, for example, so my "AND switch = SH↑". This way when I activate throttle cut by switching SH↓ the voltage monitor L25 deactivates and no more callouts. Also, in the special function (SF35 in the video) I changed the repeat to 20 seconds so it doesn't do it quite as often.

    I’m running a heli with ikon2 and 4651t satellite, I’m trying to set up opentx with pack voltage (fuel gauge) can you advise what sensor would work with this? Or if you recommend another satellite rx as well. I’ve been googling till I’m cross eyed lol

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  Місяць тому

      Well, I'm no heli guy, never worked with either the ikon2 or the 4651T so I'm no expert on your particular equipment but I'll offer some thoughts and try to help! lol.
      Are you receiving any telemetry data back from the 4651t? The 4651t can only send data back to the radio that it collects from the ikon2. I'm not sure how the ikon2 gets battery information but assuming it has it and is communicating it with the 4651t, if you are bound to the receiver with a telemetry capable radio (what radio are you using?) with DSMX, then go to the telemetry screen and "Discover New" it should populate the list with whatever is coming back from the receiver. The 4651t is backwards compatible with DSM2 but be sure you are using DSMX protocol because DSM2 will not send telemetry data.
      If you were previously bound with DSM2, rebind with DSMX, go back to the telemetry screen, if there is anything on the list, clear it and Discover New again.
      Sorry I can't offer more definitive information, just not familiar with your specific equipment. Can I also ask why you are still using OpenTX and not EdgeTX?

    • @citruspressurewash
      @citruspressurewash Місяць тому

      @ hey, thanks for the great reply and for your help. I’m not getting any telemetry, I just started looking into it and I’m getting all conflicting info. I’m running edge, I still call it open tx by accident sometimes. But I’m not set on a particular rx, i know radiomaster has their own as well, not sure if it supports telemetry. But as for radios I have a Tx16s and a dx6v2 that I use mainly on the sim. I just want pack voltage as sometimes the timer leaves me with way too much juice, and I can’t seem to find out what I need to accomplish that. :)

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  Місяць тому

      @@citruspressurewash Odd you aren't getting any telemetry. Did you bind with DSMX?
      Instead if a simple on/off or continuous timer I always use "Throttle %" for one timer and an up timer for timer 2. Timer 1 using Throttle % changes how fast the time counts based on how much throttle I give it so in my experience it comes out much more consistently once I come up with a time. Timer 2 counts up so I know how long the flight was in total. For example, timer 1 may only be 5 minutes counting down but timer 2 will show a total flight time of 10-12 minutes counting up. I land based on timer 1. Timer 2 is just for reference.

    I am using a Ar631 and a bec and batteries that are not Smart avian.
    So i do not get diretly the EVIN in the telemetry, but i get a A2 , with 4.98V (using a 3S battery pac).
    Is this value A2 presenten in the telemetry aome how related ro tye battery pack? my guess is yes because this rx is telemetry capable but only with smart esc bec, but i assume that if connected to a non- smar esc bec may still read battery but in a different way.
    I am incorrect and i can not get the battery pack from this telemetry A2 value?
    tks

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  Рік тому

      Don't need a Spektrum smart battery to get the pack voltage, you must have the Avian ESC. I think I said you did in the video, but later determined it works with any battery, just needs to be the Avian smart ESC.
      A2 is the receiver voltage, not main battery or "flight pack" voltage.

    • @alexherrera3918
      @alexherrera3918 Рік тому

      @@shanesdiy ok , but A2 is not my receiver voltage , i am using a u2s battery so it should be greater that 7.3 volts that is why i thought it was coming from the flight pack.
