Beautiful drive. We're planning a trip aug 2023 as well. Do you mind sharing some experiences and pointers about the drive. We're from Western Australia so ice and snow is non existent. We're hiring a 4wd (Toyota Prado) as we have my elderlies and the little one coming for our first family trip. Does the drive up to coronet peak require snow chains typically ? Or when you went ? And when indicated are there any assistants to check your work? Just abit nervous putting chains on "right". Watching plenty of videos in anticipation but still somewhat worried.
Once you drive up to coronet peak if the carparks full requiring you to park down bottom does the shuttle cost anything and I presume it would take all your snowboard gear up like any normal ski resort style shuttle but?
On a side note did driving into or around Queenstown require snow chains during day or night i E. When heading out for dinner?
Just wondering also I noticed on the drive down video there were people walking down the side of the road with equipment. Why is that?
Normally you don't need snow chains on most of the days during ski seasons. But sometimes after snow, especially in the morning, snow chain will be required. There'll be chain bay where you'll need to stop to put the chain on, some working staff can help you if you're not familiar with it. No worries. You can use the shuttle yes it is like ski resort shuttle taking all your gears.
You don't need to use snow chain in Queenstown. no snow on the ground:)
