    In my personal opinion, this is the radio they should have put single sideband in, I don’t understand why these companies stopped doing this with vhf/uhf mobile radios. It’s a beautiful radio though and been wanting to get one myself.

      YES! I agree. These manufactures need to start making vhf/uhf in mobile radios again.

    Thanks for the video you've pointed me in the right direction after a week of getting jerked around by the Yaesu manual and idiots producing UA-cam videos that don't have a clue. But I'm still somewhat confused as to what actually happens at my end and at the other end when we are in voice alert range. I am not telepathic and I have no idea how that is supposed to go down.

    Thanks for sharing this tip. I think I'm going to be turning my APRS mute off from now on.

      Awesome! We voice alert users want more people to use it!

    Just wondering why Yaesu didn't have enough brains to indicate that voice alert is on or off on the front panel it sure doesn't do this on my FTM 300! I have to dig into the menus to make sure that I've got it turned on which by the way took me a 40-hour week to figure out with the crappy information that's out there for these radios.

  • @tittiger
    @tittiger 2 місяці тому

    You're completely incorrect about running a hundred Hertz tone on the FTM 300. It does nothing to mute incoming aprs packets!

  • @tittiger
    @tittiger 2 місяці тому

    Why have I watched about 15 UA-cam's that tell me to add tone to the aprs frequency? On the FTM 300dr I always hear the aprs unless I mute! It seems like after a week of watching UA-cam videos, time for which Yaesu should really be paying me because they're crappy manual doesn't explain anything, anyway you can't figure out how to turn aprs voice on with the FTM 300 because the aprs signals are not muted.

    Nice! I’m actually looking at nabbing a FTM series mobile for my truck. I’d like to get more into APRS and never really knew about voice alert. Thanks!

    Why do you have sub band mute on.. doesn't that mute the sub band you are listening for voice alerts on? I love your tips by the way! Just got my 500 last week.. what a great radio!

    Setting 100 Hertz tone on a non-aprs radio does nothing to block in coming aprs because you don't have tone squelch. It seems to me on a non-aprs radio you want to set the hundred Hertz tone not with carrier squelch but with tone squelch and you didn't seem to say that.

  • @tittiger
    @tittiger 2 місяці тому

    You've left me very confused as how to do this on a non-aprs radio like the ft 2900r. If I turn on tone squelch not just tone but tone squelch on my 2900 then I am only going to going to hear aprs packets that have a tone turned on and are within Simplex range. And then I can make voice contact with them on the aprs channel so that we can switch over to another Simplex Channel. Okay I explained it to myself but I don't think you really did that for me.

    Could you please go into APR voice on the ft M 300dr? The last APR menu item is number 30 APR voice and it has no way to turn it on or off! Not only that but RT system software is incredibly bad and confusing all sorts of bugs and there is not a one-to-one correlation between menu items and configuration items in the RT system software!

    Could you address turning off the two tone APRS signal announcing the arrival of a packet please.
    Voice alert works great and thank you again on an excellent video.

      Unfortunately, you cant. This is very annoying and I wish Yaesu would put an option in the next firmware. Glad that voice alert is working for you!

    I've spent an entire week learning how to use aprs and aprs voice alert on the ftm300dr. The bottom line is I still don't have a freaking clue because these videos overall are so poorly done. I'll read Yaesu the riot act also for producing such crappy manuals that are really only useful in the outhouse.

  • @tittiger

    Yes you must hire people that rode the short bus to school to produce their manuals and most UA-cam producers are not far behind. I watched an entire week of UA-cam videos telling me to turn on tone on 144.390 and to turn on aprs mute. It seems like the real answer is menu item 30 in the aprs menu voice alert it doesn't even say on or off what it says is normal which means off and then you can turn on tone squelch and you don't need to add tone to the frequency because I assume tone squelch does it. Thanks Jason for stealing a goddamn entire week of my time running me in circles with your s***** manuals that are only fit for the outhouse.

      @@Scout75PortableRadio I could but I also have APRS muted in side "B" , so it would make no sense, I understand that for voice calls, hence I have my message set to show whatever freq I'm on the "A" side, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
