IRON Series 30 Min Leg Workout - Dumbbell Leg Day | 1

- Day 1 in The IRON Series and we begin with a complete leg day workout involving some of the main dumbbell movements to recruit as much muscle as possible within each rep.
Being able to perform a movement through its full range of movement with control should be the aim. Of course we all have slightly different ways of performing the same movement including depth, foot position or range of movement available so it is important to always tweak to suit you such as toes pointed out slightly during squat if better or lower to knees and not beyond during RDLs.
Even during this workout, you could consider it as ‘dynamic stretching’ as you are moving the joint through the range available.
And use it as practice! Every workout I do is a practice session! I am forever thinking during each rep… rather than moving the weight from A to B, think about lifting ‘with’ the muscle too. Mind muscle connection can be powerful and hopefully we will see more research coming in future relating to the potential benefits of this in hypertrophy.
If you think about a bent over row… rather than allowing yourself to draw elbows up to move the weight, actually think about the muscles in your back contracting to lift the weight. This can be applied to nearly all movement patterns. Overtime, you become even more susceptible to this coming more naturally when you lift.
Every workout I share is unedited. One take and it’s my entire workout so you will see me struggle for sure! And hopefully be able to see also the focus.
I am constantly thinking as I lift and sometimes I may be thinking about one aspect when I then notice my foot isn’t perfectly inline with thigh or I could improve my neck being inline with my spine…I am saying this to remind you the importance of focus, especially when lifting. And that we all are improving continuously!

The dumbbells I am using for your reference are 15kg each!
The timer will be on for 60 seconds per exercise with 30 seconds rest inbetween!

Just started this series at 73 yrs young with a full hip and shoulder replacement. lol. Additionally, RT wrist surgery with pins. The heaviest weight I own is 12 lbs but that’s OK. I will work up and purchase heavier wits. I appreciate Carolyn sharing not to round the back because that applies to osteopenia and osteoporosis. Started this today (25/09/2024) for the 2nd time. This series has helped me enormously, last time I lost over 25lbs along with following a proper nutritious diet. I love this series the most especially because of the ending music, makes me feel like a champion and gets me emotional after a hard workout. Thank you Caroline, another six weeks with IRON, LETS GOO!!

This workout is so hard I call it “The Awful Workout”. By that I mean it is intense and I know I will get stronger! It’s easy to raise or lower the intensity by just changing the size of the dumbbells!
Can I just say thank you for the explicit and logical approach to each aspect of every video. Incredible resource for neurodivergent peeps with the utter peace and quiet during the workout. No talking or yelling. A percentage-of-completion tracker to game-ify it. A demo preview of the next movement during current movement so there's no uncertainty. Tonal markers on completions and to mark the change of stretch in case you aren't watching closely.

Im a beginner looking to build muscle, this iron series is amazing! ive never used weights before learning how important it was to build muscle. I went from 1.5kg to 5kg weights , so proud of myself

I just got advised by fb adminis that the 4kg I'm using are too light 😢 even thought I also have gone from using 1.5kg they said its too light for lower body when I found it hard .... feel gutted
I would disagree because if it's challenging for you then it's right for you. There's no point in going all in with weights that are too heavy and injure yourself. Start low and keep increasing when you are able to. Doing that is better than not doing it at all! @@lizziewhite9339

You have changed the way I view working out. I have a membership to a gym but I would much rather spend my time working out with you. I worked out on my own with a gym membership for nearly a year and saw little progress. After just 2 months with your kettlebell and ab workouts, I have lost pounds and inches and gained much more muscle definition. I appreciate you so much. At 47, I'm in the best shape of my life.

Took longer breaks, Shifted to lower weights, few times only did body weighted exercises, however didn't give up. You can do it guys💪
That actually motivated the hell out of me thanks - cuz I always feel like I’ve done something wrong so I give up easily but that inspires me to keep goinggg - think of the bigger picture!!!

Age 61 and just starting today. My daughter just started her 4th time through IRON. She said it has been life changing for her and expects it to be so for me. I haven’t done weight resistance in years. Even though I do yoga and run, I am so deconditioned as far as muscular strength and joint support. I noticed there were women in their 70s who did this workout series so I’m hopeful I can do it as well. Looking forward to getting stronger and stronger.

Great video, Caroline keep posting these. Exercising can sometimes be really hard and tedious, but it always makes me feel better. Last year I had almost 2500 lbs in bodyweight. One day I just started moving more, then started running outside and then I joined gym and started doing weighted exercises and I was eating clean by following meal plan I got from Next Level Diet. Today I have 145 lbs and I am happy like I never been in my life.

Love these workouts. I'm 71 years young I walk 5 miles every day but needed some strength workouts love it so much.

Loved it!! Even though I couldn’t do any of the same exercises (I’m disabled) I tried to replicate the workout with moves I can do and push hard … my legs are jello lol (I swapped in lots of hip thrusts and raises, leg lifts, wall sits, etc).

Started today! 42 year old female. Recently lost a lot of weight due to illness and would like to gain muscle and just get strong! I had to sit down on every step to get down the stairs after my legs were so shaky! The finisher killed me ! Thank you for these videos I am so excited to make it to the finish.

In summer 2022, I tried 10 kgs, but it was extremely difficult, and my knees hurt. So I dropped to 6 kgs. In 1.5 years I've made my way up, and tried 11 kgs today for the first time. Good control, knees comfy. Long breaks, and the second half of the vid is 1 dumbbell. Thank you for this feeling of strength and pride, Caroline!
My first day today! I've been doing the 30 min full body for a while, moved from 4kg to 6 to 8 and now 10kg. Sweat is pouring down my face as I type. How do you organize your workout schedule based on this series?
@@yarahamam829 I started my weight training journey with this series and now after an year of not finding anything that gave the results quite like this did I AM BACK... what I did back then and am going to do now is to workout 5x a week and take 2 rest days..I might throw in some 10 min ab workouts too just bc i enjoy doing them...Ive heard that 5x a week is a pretty solid schedule for hypertrophy so thats what im going to do...best of luck on your journey💙💙
Personal story- I've been so terrified of trying out Caroline's workouts, based on others opinions, but also intrigued since more people love it. I've watched Caroline grow since Sept 2020, watched all the epics uploads happen in real time, never daring to start any of them. My mindset wasn't right at all. Last year I've worked on my mindset. I'm still overweight, less strength and energy, but with so much better mindset. Epic endgame would've been the first program I would've completed of hers (despite knowing her since 2020), had I not let my mind take over me again. I was so ashamed of myself, why did I not finish epic endgame. I just want to finish a program to feel good about myself. And now, Caroline has come up with another program, IRON. This is so perfect. 6 weeks, 30 mins is just what I needed. IRON is my fresh start. I WILL finish this one. I want to be a proud Girvanator 💕
Hello Akanksa! I am sure you will finish it! I know it's hard to be motivated everyday, especially with all the things that we have to accomplish in our lives. But it's only 30 minutes and it's a gift to ourselves. That's how I think and feel about it. Small steps every time. You will be surprised about the mental and physical strength you'll gain 💪💪💪💪

I did this Leg without and I had been going to the gym for about 2 weeks prior. I am late 50s, this was an awesome leg workout, I could hardly keep my breath. Caroline is a Beast !

I have been working out to Caroline’s workouts for some time and LOVE them! Caroline’s workouts are my absolute favorite! My husband has been wanting to start strength training for some time now but hasn’t been sure where to start so I finally convinced him to do Caroline’s workouts with me! @@ivanadafunic7416 to be honest I don't have much definition yet but definitely stronger. I started it for the 4th time now but I'm going much heavier with my weights and I'm noticing more muscle growth and little definition. In terms of overall body composition I have lost a lot of inches of fat

Very manageable routine. I love that the pace is controlled; there is no one screaming at you to go faster, do more reps. On to day 2!
It’s called Time under tension. It’s a legit way to train, controlling the weight makes it harder and it creates stimulus in the muscle. Upon rest muscle will get stronger and grow
This is my first day in the Iron Series. I am 64 and have been doing yoga for 7 years. My body is strong, but I am interested in building muscle. This workout was a perfect compliment to my exercise routine. Thank you Caroline. I look forward to doing the entire series.

Just starting Iron for the second time, it's the first strength programme I've followed and it's made such a difference. Last time I started with 4kg/9lb dumbbells, this time I'm starting with 9kg/20lb
I am doing two of these a day. I just finished Fuel, also having done two a day, and am taking a two day break. I can't tell you how amazing I feel. Thank you for all you did for us on UA-cam.
did you do the same video 2 times in a day or moved on to next numbered video for the second ? I asked on my comment if doing these everyday is ok(perimenopausal here and 40 pounds overweight) dont't want to spike cortisol. cause most articles say to weight lift 3 days a week..... idk
I love how I can play the workout with no sound and watch/listen to my own tv/music simultaneously. I tried this workout as a filler leg day in my normal routine, and I want to do the whole series now. Perfect format with all the visual on screen tips, timers, etc!
A lot of us are doing repeats of the series.

After 6 months I finally did this exactly as Caroline in the video. I am considerably heavier and male. Main problem was forearms as I never trained with weights before.
i am loving these workouts. have struggled in the past with home workouts... much easier for me to run or bike outside or do class workouts at the gym. but Caroline keeps these home workouts motivating, well-paced and challenging. never fail to work up a sweat!
Preparing for bilateral knee replacement surgery and I need to get my legs as strong as I can so my recovery is faster and pain is less. I freaking love these workouts. I may only have used 10lb weights but moving slow through the moves really does burn the quads, hams and glutes. I can't baby the knee pain from all the arthritis and bone spurs, but push trough to increase strength, which in turn helps with the knee pain. Love you girl!!!
Just started the Iron Series and I can already tell that this will be my favourite one from all the series! Perfect workout length (30 min is my sweet spot haha), great choice of music and the weekly combination of 2 lower, 2 upper and 1 full body workouts is my kinda thing. Love Love Love!!

This is my 3rd time doing Iron. All her videos are exceptional, but this particular series I really increase my strength. I also find it very easy to be consistent and the workouts are (gasp) enjoyable!! Thank you!!
I have been waiting for Iron to increase my weights. I did it with 8kgs and 10kgs which is massive for me as I started at Epic with 1kgs!! Thanks forever Caroline.

Today was my first time working out with Caroline and I have to admit I struggled a little. Once I dropped down a size in weights I was fine. Hoping tomorrow is a better day
I’ve just found out about her workouts and began on Tuesday. I am only starting with 8, 10 and 12lb weights. There’s nothing wrong with building up to heavier over time!
