Works great on my hobie oasis tandem kayak. The only issue is steering with the twist n go rudder. We have not gone to less than half battery power after 2 years of usage. We are loaded with bait cooler and ice chest as well.
I’ve owned and used the J1 version of the Bixpy Jet for a few years now…and I can tell you that Bixpy stands behind their products. I attached mine to the rear H bar, in a fixed, non-steering position and it has performed flawlessly on both the PA14 and OB. It’s a nice power assist when used simultaneously with the mirage drive. I hang the battery on the outside rear of the H-Crate, using the Jet traveling from point A to point B, with a 360 drive taking over for maintaining fishing position. Downside would be reaching the prop for cleaning but it could be mounted on a side H rail closer to the cockpit. Also, on a Hobie PA the prop can be raised to run level with the hull bottom so shallow water is not necessarily a factor. No, it’s not a Torqeedo, but less than 1/3 the price, simpler, no manual throttle box, puts less stress on the Hobie drive and rudder.

Very cool video. I have the Newport NK-180 and for speed, flexibility and cost, I find it a great balance. If you get the chance try to test that out. The only challenging thing is you need a 24v battery (or 2 12v ). The bixby is nice, but the push button throttle seems a little impractical for fishing docks and all. The weight with battery is really nice on the bixby. My 24v 50ah LifePo4 battery on my Newport is 26#, so that is a consideration.

@@Saltstrong I got home after work this morning looked into them more and took the plunge and just charged it to my credit 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ lol. I hope it will be worth it. I only need to go out about 2 miles in the sea for the big pelagic fish.
Sounds like it exposed some flaws in Hobies. Turning in my Viking is great at high speeds with a bixpy. Additionally there is an power extension cord so you can move the battery where you need it. My speeds are a bit faster than what you posted but you weren't taking account of wind speed, current and tide, weight of kayak and you/load, and size of kayak. If you put on the rudder at speed 1-3 and continue to pedal at the same time your speed increases but you can also save some of your energy and go longer distances or time out. Great video though.

Bixby is nothing more than a trolling motor, it's not a jet! This is a rip off!!! I use a side mount trolling motor and use a 100 AH lithium LifePro4 battery and I can troll all day long (at full power) for over 12 hours. This company only lets you use their battery and you have to wear a wrist control. Really!! OMG. Two Hours of fun is nothing compared to all day on the lake! By a trolling motor and mount it. Dang, I can't believe this.
That's standard fair for a kayak motor, most in this space top out at 6 mph at full throttle. No kayak is designed to go faster than that let alone be able to turn without tossing you and all your gear. Jokes on you for not doing the research.
@Saltstrong I'm selling a Bixpy j-2 motor brand new in the box for 1,100 dollars only. Please let me know if you want to buy it or if you know anyone who wants to buy it

Is there anyway to have the motor hug the bottom of the kayak? I want to run it in 4-5 inches of water.
Great video you answered all of my questions I had

On the fence…do you think it would be worth it in the gulf (Tampa)?

Can't get into the shallows. The rear poll comes up with a rope then will click back into place with a little juice and pedaling backwards.
