Reason why I love the macan so much is the extraordinary value for money (it costs as much as a full-optional Velar D300!). You have a perfect and balanced blend of performance, agility, utility and comfort. Bigger SUVs miss the fun and agility part. This has everything you need.

Thomas seems to be very inconsistent in his evaluation of rear seat legroom across his multiple Macan reviews. Sometimes he finds it good sometimes he finds it bad. Make up your mind Thomas!
I still daily drive my Macan GTS 2017 with 91000 kms, its a beast and angel the same time.. going country roads in sports plus or taking my newborn while sleeping tight with cloud like suspension is effortless for the car..
Completely disagree. The GTS is tuned much better than S.. it's a very special machine! the S is good and base they are all excellent, but the GTS has the sauce!

Thanks, Thomas, for another great Porsche review. Personally, I have test driven both the Macan S & GTS. Although both share the same engine, the GTS is tuned more for performance as you get a really fun small SUV to drive. You notice this difference when you have driven both. The GTS package (interior & exterior ) with the green stitching looks sensational & a pleasure to sit in, priced at around $16,000 AUD. Adding the panoramic glass roof is a nice look as well. Here in Australia, the GTS is the Macan to order & costs around $1000 AUD for each service for the first 5 years. You can also buy an extended warranty after 3 years. Thanks again for the upload. Why does that sound so much better than a 911? If they can make the Macan sound that aggressive why not the 911? I know one is a flat 6 and the Macan a V6 but the 911 is so much quieter.
I sold my Macan Turbo for a BEV 3 months ago. I would not have bought the facelifted GTS. I prefer the 2 characters of the Turbo fast when you want it, quiet and comfortable when not. I’m not a fan of the centre console and plastic trim which shouts look at me. Turbo had a different buyer from the GTS and will be missed. I have already put a deposit down on the Macan EV so will have to put up with haptic capacitive switches everywhere unfortunately.
Can’t understand why Thomas seems to be whining so much about the price of the Macan. Perhaps it isn’t worth the money? In full-optional spec, lots of premium diesel sedans and SUVs will equal the price of the Macan GTS. That says it all. The price is indeed very interesting imo.
I was grappling with this. But my local Porsche dealer will sell for straight MSRP with no markup. My BMW dealership will not go less than MSRP. So the delta between the two was $10k. I went with the GTS. The M3 was awesome, but it doesn’t drive as comfortable as the GTS and it won’t depreciate as much in value. They’re both great cars.
When I brought my GT4 in for service I got a Mayan 2.0 for a loaner, really poor power delivery, the next time I got an S model and it was so much better, completely different car. I love the size but I am waiting for the EV model, hopefully it will have 300 miles range and the fast charging of the Tycan.
Interior is quite dissapointing with all the piano black plastic especially at this price point. Had the same complaint on the Audi version of this car as well

Hi Thoms, did you know if we select the ACC option you to lose the Speed limit option, pay more, and get fewer features. I wasn't aware of that neither it was mentioned in the configurator, received my car without this feature. Pretty disappointed. Why would they do this!!
IMHO the best middle class SUV on the market ... the best outside design and the best handling for a SUV. This GTS package it's really superbe combined with steering wheel and brakes. TOP! Great review as always ...

Thomas, do you think that they are not launching this update in Turbo guise because when the all new electric Macan arrives that it is going to be called the Turbo? I was thinking this might be the case because they will offer the ICE version along side the EV version
I guess you either have a completely keyless entry with an ignition button or a classic entry with the car key in the ignition. That turn thingy sucks.
Ever since the Macan downsized to a 2L, its sounded like a VW golf. Embarrassing. I love my original Twin Turbo 3.6L V6 Macan Turbo, it sounds amazing.

And Microfiber leads to Microplastic .... also the vegan alternatives have sometimes severe disadvantages. In the end, with a rapidly growing population, now above 7 billion, the global economy simply cannot be sustainable. As a side note, according to a friend that works at BMW, the most expensive leather available as an exclusive custom trim, is made from whale penis. Probably not merely a side product?

Macan S & GTS both great cars, but the aging platform bothers me & makes me consider the Cayenne is a better long term solution, particularly in hybrid & with a face lift coming in 2022. I'm looking at a new car having just sold my 991. What's your thoughts Thomas? Q. what was the real world fuel economy for S & GTS?? Love you style on You Tube videos.
If you dont need the rear space of the Cayenne, the Macan GTS is really a great car! Drives much more agile than the Cayenne... Facelift of Cayenne has been postponed to 2023 by the way.

Such a nice car. Porsche nailed it with this one! Of course the Cayman is the one to go if you want a classic sports car for purists (or an old 911, not the new one, I know some will hate me for that statement :-). But if you want something that does it all: comfy, sporty, luxurious and also great for long roadtrips with the family … I believe the Macan S is the sweet spot - just perhaps add the air suspension and there you go!
Something I cannot find anywhere... Is the shifting by the lever in M, still: forward to upshift and backward to downshift or FINALLY, it has been changed to the more intuitive movement (forward = down, backward = up)? Thanks, great review as always!
Plenty fast. You want an EV be prepared for 1000 extra lbs, range anxiety, no engine/exhaust music, terrible steering and brake feel. Oh and hanging out in parking lots for 45 minutes to get charged.
You guys obviously don’t own a Tesla. I’ve been driving EVs for about 5 years now. Your points were valid three years ago, but not anymore. Model S gets reasonable 400 miles. I charge at home for about $1 USD/gallon equivalent at home. I charge at night every three days. I can also supercharge my Model S in about 20 minutes to go from 20 to 80% when I’m getting a take out or coffee.
@@alexedward01 Yeah. You be you; I’ll be me. Supercharger network makes it actually enjoyable to go on a road trip. Can’t do that with a gokart. Do me a favor and actually drive one. The x3m has 510 hp for around the same price . i think the bmw x3m is a better buy

There is no Audi version of this car. The Macan shared a platform with the Q5 but Porsche engineers changed 85% of the vehicle.

Ever since the Macan downsized to a 2L, its sounded like a VW golf. Embarrassing. I love my original Twin Turbo 3.6L V6 Macan Turbo, it sounds amazing.
The GTS isn't 2L.
But this thing is a 2.9L V6 though, so I don't know what you're on about

Why is "animal skin" a disadvantage? I would spec as much leather as possible...
Some people dont like the idea of being surrounded by the skin of dead animals...
I personally dont like the sounds and feeling of leather seats , also the fact that it gets really cold in the winter and hot i the summer 😑

In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination.

Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car.
In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette.

Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
And Microfiber leads to Microplastic .... also the vegan alternatives have sometimes severe disadvantages. Genetically engineered soy, avocados that fly around the world, etc. It's very difficult for consumers to assess the total impact of a product on the entire environment (climate, water, animals, people). In the end, with a rapidly growing population, now above 7 billion, the global economy simply cannot be sustainable.
As a side note, according to a friend that works at BMW, the most expensive leather available as an exclusive custom trim, is made from whale penis. Probably not merely a side product?

Macan S & GTS both great cars, but the aging platform bothers me & makes me consider the Cayenne is a better long term solution, particularly in hybrid & with a face lift coming in 2022. I'm looking at a new car having just sold my 991. What's your thoughts Thomas?

If you dont need the rear space of the Cayenne, the Macan GTS is really a great car! Drives much more agile than the Cayenne... Facelift of Cayenne has been postponed to 2023 by the way.

Keyless Entry is an option.
@@BF1GUN I am building my Porsche in USA and don’t see that option in the S or the GTS? I have seen several reviews and some say they come with keyless entry and some say they come without so I am very confused. If you can please clarify?

Such a nice car. Porsche nailed it with this one! Of course the Cayman is the one to go if you want a classic sports car for purists (or an old 911, not the new one, I know some will hate me for that statement :-). But if you want something that does it all: comfy, sporty, luxurious and also great for long roadtrips with the family … I believe the Macan S is the sweet spot - just perhaps add the air suspension and there you go!

EV must be compared with an EV - wait for Macan EV.
Plenty fast. You want an EV be prepared for 1000 extra lbs, range anxiety, no engine/exhaust music, terrible steering and brake feel. Oh and hanging out in parking lots for 45 minutes to get charged.
You guys obviously don’t own a Tesla. I’ve been driving EVs for about 5 years now. Your points were valid three years ago, but not anymore. Model S gets reasonable 400 miles. I charge at home for about $1 USD/gallon equivalent at home. I charge at night every three days. I can also supercharge my Model S in about 20 minutes to go from 20 to 80% when I’m getting a take out or coffee.
