@@MikeB-oo9bj Look at the credits. Crosby appears first on half the songs, so those are going to be his riffs. And the others are competent guitarists too.
Aside from the insane intro and solo for Lay it down, let us not forget the incredibly loose chunka-chunka rhythm that Robbin Crosby is playing across the verses. It drifts a LOT rhythmically but it really works well and very much contributes to the vibe and groove. Definitely note-worthy. RIP Robbin.
This is one of those solos that sound great even without a backing track. One of my buddies has been a guitarist in technical type death metal bands for years, fair to say most of the crowd was appropriate for the music style. He would bust out with this out while warming up and the entire place would lose their shit hahaha. Legendary solo.
Warren'DeMartini is consistently within the top 10 Favorite Guitarist's (for many Extreme Metal, Thrash Metal Speed Metal, Death Metal, etc Guitarist's) RATT (Guitar Tracks) for many of Us Guitarist's, who were Young and Impressionable Woodshedding Guitar Players, RATT was GREAT,(and for a minute, Warren' DeMartini & Robbin Crosby) to a Learning Guitarist' like myself, when RATT was Tough & Firing on all Cylinders, with Warren' & Robbin in their 1985-1987 Prime, RATT for Guitar Players was Unbelievable, sorta like a Band With Two Eddie Van Halen's or Two Dimebag Darrell Guitarist's, until 1986'-1987 "Dancing Undercover" album & Tour maybe even 1988' *Reach for the Sky" album & Tour
@@ambracaddabrasaudioearcand4567 Dancing Undercover is my personal favorite, but most people don't like it as much as Invasion, strangely. They are both great records in their own right. But Dancing, man.....That's MY record.
That is my favorite also, didn't even know about it till the end of "Point Break" watching it in the theater when it came out. As soon as it started playing I had goosebumps and thought it was Ratt even before he started singing, amazing
We think alike. I was just thinking about that song and now get to learn the solo. Awsome!!! Next you should do the Nobody Rides for Free solo. Love that song!!!
Sometimes I’m like, Man, Uncle Ben is so awesome! We should hang out! Then I’m like, Well, he’s funnier than me. And he’s way better at guitar. And he has more dogs and better hair. Dick.
Warren D such a great player always elvoved thru each RATT albums and plays with such skill and emotion. Aka nickname The Torch. He's one of my favorite guitarists all time. 🐀🐁🐀🐁🐀
You really hit the nail on the head the down picking part of demartini style. It is something that I honestly do a lot as well but sometimes wish that I was more fluid with alternate picking at slower speeds, but it feels more natural and honestly it's easier to play a lot of runs like this using down picks rather than alternate picking. I think for me growing up and listening to a lot of hair metal influenced how I approached My Guitar, but I've been trying to work on not always being so aggressive with my picking and being a bit more graceful at times.
"More harder" that's what she said :p Love your channel, I always learn something. Mandela effect for you: I first saw Ratt on Star Search. I told my little brother "They're good, the guitar players are badass, but they'll never go anywhere with a name like rat." Then they won the show for their category. Now there's no mention of them ever being on Star Search, much less winning it, no videos, and nothing about it on their website. My little brother even remembers me saying that. Keep up the good work dude, you rock!
Thanks! Awesome as always. The bit on the e and b before the last two bends at the end always gave me fits, but the way you're playing it works for me more gooder- or is it "gooderer...". My arthritic dad hands thank you.
Cool lesson! Warren is one of the best! One little detail here - during that last lick you go over at 9:30, that Eb (hi E, 11th fret) you're pulling off to from the 13th fret is actually a D which I've always assumed was played on the B string, 15th fret. Listen close and you'll hear it. Doesn't make the lick any easier to play though - lol! Thanks for tackling this one!
Having recently learned about playing harmonies in 3rds I really appreciate that descending 4ths lick! It gives me another idea to expand on and use in my own playing! Very cool!! Thanks to you AND Warren!! 🤘🎸
Ben you are so awesome and I love that you give your time and talent and teach us this stuff. Man you are so awesome and talented. Thanks for all you do man.
Ive been saying this for 38 years or so and this video confirms my taste in good players has been spot on. I mention DiMartini always when asked a top 5 or 10 and get this.....who is he shit regularly.
Uncle Ben's videos are also things that are nice, therefore we watch them. It'd be cool to have a go at Dokken's "Unchain the night" solo (actually the whole song is pretty cool). I recently sat down and figured it out, it has a couple of spots in that solo that definitely trip people up. Every cover I have seen does a straight Paul Gilbert pedal run, but George Lynch put his own tweak in it. Unless it was a mistake, but I doubt it. GL was at the top of his game back then. Lynch Mob's Wicked Sensation and She's Evil but She's Mine also have some great guitar moments.
Ben, you are like a young Reb Beach man you are awesome. Lay it Down has been my ringtone for months. I've learned a lot over the years ever since you convinced me my power chords suck! Thanks brother 🤘🤘
Hello Ben, Great Lesson!, however I was watching a video where Warren was doing the solo for a Clinic and @ 4:00 to start the solo it's actually unison bend with the B & G string 1st Fret-3rd Fret and so on not just those single string notes. Just thought I would share. Thanks again for all you do!
Awesome and spot on. We got the riffs AND the solo courtesy of Uncle Ben! Now I just need to speed up the alternate picking slanting angled downward upward escaping string-changing stuff and maybe get a wig since my hair has all fallen out!! Thanks!
I know they were contemporaries of each other, but Warren sounds so much like George Lynch in this song. Warren is his own guitarist. I think George and Warren were both on the Sunset Strip clubs around the same time... George might've been there a little earlier, but man... so much Lynch in the solo to me.
Thanks for learning Warren Demartini’s legendary Lay it Down solo! What other Ratt classics should we go over next?
In Your Direction & You're In Trouble have some unique facets and great phrasing!
Nice job on all of this, as usual! **
Heads I win, tails you lose or Nobody Rides for Free
Play the outro solo to "Round and Round"
Nobody rides for free
Back for more 🤟🏻
After Eddie, IMO, Warren has the best, catchiest, most memorable riffs.
The riffs were divided among Crosby, Croucier, maybe Pearcy and Martini. He was not the riff writer in Ratt, nor the sole solo writer.
@@ColtraneTaylor Yea but im sure he wasn't note for note what to play.

Warrens intro is the songs real stunner
Definitely would love a full lesson on the whole song. Love this Ratt tune!

Warren was an absolute animal and totally unique. Have you seen the 1991 live footage of all his solos in Las Vegas? Jaw dropping!
Warrens sound and playing very addictive can’t get those songs and leads out of my memories.
You've inspired me to make a Warren Demartini meme. More to come.....
The meme was a success hehe
Hey, there's Mike from The Art of Guitar!!!

Not underrated if you time travel to nineteen eighty four.
