Sewer Pipe Strawberries! (How To Set Them Up..)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 вер 2024
- Growing strawberries in a plastic pipe is a really good idea and we've been doing it successfully for years now. They are kept off the ground - away from mice and slugs - and at the same time the moisture is kept in the pipe.
Often the strawberries we grow outside just don’t ripen here at all, because of the cold wet summers we’ve been having. So we’ve decided to give up trying to grow them outside altogether these days.
But we’ll need more pipe..
Here's the link to the second part of this series (which came out first!).. • Sewer Pipe Strawberrie...

Great stuff Tim 👍 My Dad use to get guttering off Houses and mount them to the fence and grow Lettuce and Strawberries in them when I was a young lad 😎
+Paul Windler That is a wonderful idea!!!
I come to your channel and watch the videos all the time.
Its really relaxing to just set and watch.......and sometimes fall asleep...LOLOL
This is the follow-up video about how we grow strawberries in the pipes.. ua-cam.com/video/3gPvoOvPjfE/v-deo.html
How to grow indoor plant in philippines
DIY tips, math lessons and now even a karate demonstration...! Man, man, you are great, the both of you.
hey man - it is me the smartass again 😉. what I did to my PCV pipes, to close the ends - I just used the heat gun to make them soft, and then clamp the end flat. After they cool down, applied a bit of PCV glue, and clamp again to seal. I don't know if it'd work on sever pipe though (probably yes)
👍 to you, as always.
I tried on 3" and heating that much volume is very difficult. Parts tend to burn. Maybe an a toaster oven with a hole cut out would heat more evenly.
You could use yogurt cups on the ends. They won't be exposed to light. If they are, put aluminum foil on the ends. Hold the cups in with a little screw, or hole with thin wire.
It was nice seeing Bob :)
oh my gosh your videos are oddly satisfying to watch :)
true this!
Ah, that's my motto, too ... 'Good enough!'
I love your Burros
Love love love your videos!
Sandra you got almighty kung fu skills!
Da
Well done. Excellent tips as usual!
Great video of the ninja mathematician in action, ...in the west of Ireland ! :-) rc
Looks like lots of fun. I made a strawberry video, and was so proud of it until a baby slug snuck into the harvest sequence. Now I've got a slug battle to deal with in my strawberry bed. Your way looks much better.
+Jeb Gardener Thanks Jeb - slugs are a big challenge round here so this way wins many points
We are waiting for a update video on the Sewer pipe strawberries. I would very much like to see what you filled the pipe with and how you plan to drain the pipe. Your video has given me a idea on cutting and using the pipe to work where I live
+SYKVideos The update has been up for a while now - have a look here.. ua-cam.com/video/3gPvoOvPjfE/v-deo.html
Great idea!
So this is the prequel? ;-) Nice job and as always fun to watch!
+Elyse Joseph Yes, the prequel! What next? A retrospective, maybe? Or we could jump straight to 'Part 4 - The Revenge'
ich schaue jetzt immer auch die englischen Videos von euch :-)
You won me over withe the karate chop lol xo
💗 @02:56!!!
Cool diy! Thanks 🍕🍻
I think "Sewer Pipe Strawberries" might just be my new band name
+50red510 Rock on!
Have you tried making the holes with a hole saw? If that works, it would speed up the process. Of course, due to the curvature of the pipe's circumference the hole might be a slightly weird shape? Should work just as well though. Seems like an excellent way to grow strawberries, and I'm sure other things like lettuce and a lot of other plants could be grown this way.
+TheodorEriksson I'm sure a hole saw would work too. (Perhaps a jigsaw is a mechanical hole saw?)
That was quicker than my method, which was cutting out the holes using a Fein Multimaster on a low speed, i chose rectangles rather than circles. I think a hole saw might be the quickest option of all. You can also buy caps for the pipe, these fit around the end of the pipes. If you buy the slightly different 110mm plugs, they only fit in connections as they have the same diameter as the pipe. I got the wrong ones so i cut the flanges off them to give me flat discs and then used clear high modulus polyurethane sealant to hold them in place. I like the general design very much.
Cut the end plugs out of closed cell garden kneeling mats, usually a quid from wilko`s. You could fit more strawberry plants in vertical towers made from 160mm sewer pipe. A saw and a heatgun is all you need.
you guys are funny!!
Do a video on your dogs!
great
i really enjoy watching this video... keke
Is the Donkey important when making the plugs?
+Tripplehelix Vital
Of course he is…someone has to supervise :-)
+Tripplehelix That was not a Donkey that was a small hairy horse.
If Sandra can "cut" pipes like that Please don't take the risk of offending her... just saying Tim "know what I mean"
Take care because we care Duncan & Rebecca
+Mcleod Duncan You don't need to tell me. Respect always.. : - )
You know Tim, if you do 1 hole clockwise, 1 hole CCW, the cord never gets tangled up...
+trollforge You're so smart! : - )

I aspire to be like ypou two when I get married!!
+Hallie DiBell Thank you - that's very sweet. x
why not pvc?
Not sure what you mean - this is pvc. Some say it exudes poisons - but I'm not convinced
why not a hole cup bit for your drill?
+Benny ofAtlanta That might work, but they may be too short? I must try it though.. Thanks.
no need for drainage holes?
I was looking through the comments for an answer to that question
+snappyjdog No need if they're inside - they only get watered when they need it. But if they were outside they would need them, for sure. Good point.
verybig tomato garden see 1st time
2.52 - dont you get a end cap ? everyone seems to struggle with it
They're just very expensive, that's all
that might look stupid, but why not just plug the ends with plastic caps?
+martin blouin You're right! Except here we can only get ones that go into the wider, female, end. And they're pricey.
you cant get a plastic pipe end??
+martin turner not here anyway
Where did you get the pipe?
From the builders' merchant
4 inch pipe, you make holes of 4 inches wide ... so you shot cut through the whole width of the pipe, no ? :-/
Do not you sorry to ruin your new PVC pipe?
