This is how it used to rain all the time in Vegas during the monsoons pre 2002 ish . Good to see it back again . Shades of the 70s and 80s.

You just didn’t have as many stupid people thinking they could just be out driving around? The bud driver should know it’s not safe why are people so dumb? Stay the heck home…….all these vehicles will have issues soon.

Not unusual during monsoon season. Whenever anything >1” falls in a very short amount of time this happened. You are repeatedly told “ DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH STANDING WATER “ and still there are always people … driving through standing water.

Before doing this, do yourself the favor of locating the air intake for your engine. It's not a box or can on top of the engine, many of them snake into fenderwells and pick up rather low to the ground. If you suck up a snoot full of water, the engine will hydrolock and bend or break expensive parts. A good thing to know where it is and judge your depth accordingly.

It’s called “flash flooding” my friend. It’s impossible to anticipate or avoid hence the word “flash” in flash flooding. These conditions come on so sudden that it will happen while you are already out. Desert rains are something else. Most people don’t understand this type of storm becuase it only happens in the desert.

The problem is that once the sewer system drains get clogged in heavy rain, it really only take a hour or even less for the rain water to accumulate since it has no where to go. I do hope citizens of Las Vegas survive these dangerous floods.

People proceed on what they think is solid pavement, but what is NOT guaranteed is that a sinkhole has not opened up that is ten or fifteen feet deep and would swallow the vehicle whole. There are no timely rescues available for that kind of situation.

The location of that was is way above elevation of the city center. They’re at the base of a mountain which accounts for all the water which is coming in through a wash to small for the amount of water.

They key to driving through an overflowing road, is not to do it at all. You don't know what's under that water, if the road has been washed away, or if the weight of your vehicle will collapse it. Then you are screwed.

No need to drive into something thats going to damage your car. Higher ground. No more drought thats for sure.
