This song brings tears to my eyes … My Dad LOVED Three Dog Night … He was born in Oklahoma … loved Spanish black velvet paintings (LOL). I remember one Christmas, when we were children in St. Louis, my step brother had a light that would turn on when you lifted it from some thing. We three walked into our parents’ bedroom at 5 o’clock in the morning, lifted the light, proceeded to sing joy to the world three dog night style! I’ll never forget it they made us go back to bed ha ha ha ha ha ha. I realize you are showcasing musicians on instruments…. I think you should do this acoustically! That would really showcase one’s voice.✌️🤟🤘💕🙏👍🎶🎤
this song was actually sung by one of the most under rated rock and roll singers of all time - Cory Wells. Your vocals are phenomenal!! Thank you for sharing!
I sing the beginning of it down to a T. I sound exactly like the lead singer, but only at the opening of it. I know I can get the whole song with time and lots of practice. But even I get goose bumps when I sing the opening. Always loved three dog night. By the way ken.Tampelten . You really sound super great, and your an excellent singing teacher, no more like a professor . 👏👏👏🌟🌟🌟👍😁
Ken, I've been singing this song in shows for a decade and never knew the technique you demonstrated here. Obviously I had a lot to learn in my youth...... You be da man!
Funny story love this group.....when I was younger....... me and my sister mind you we could never sing....... just not in the blood the genes etc..... we used a jump rope each holding one end to use as a microphone.. and preformed for the family a three dog night song...... needless to say.......good thing we never quit our day jobs....... but we had fun and it's a found memory we share....... I think we were probably 5 & 7 years...I can't remember the name of it but it started out Jeremiah was a bulldog..... Wow down memory lane...... I forgot they even sang this song....... " Never Been To Spain".......You do pick really good classic rock songs....... and have a great strong vocal sound......Thanks brought me back to my childhood days.......Have a blessed day.......
You're insane. We'd ALL like to sing like that. Yours is a gift as rare as they come. Your enthusiasm is a blessing - so glad you are sharing it. (makes the world a better place)
Actually, I couldn't sing at all when I first started out trying. I had no range. My tone was bad. I had no idea what I was doing. I learned. I trained. Now I know what it takes to train somebody to sing. It took me a LONG time to get it all figured out.
mind blown! that was amazing this song should be covered by more people and made into a harder rock version similar to this. when I listen to the original I just feel like something is missing like there's not enough power vocals and emotion. great job man!
Uh, that’s the best cover I’ve heard of this song. By far. That’s crazy, man. I’m a producer and recording engineer, and that’s some good sh.t right there.
I think you have a gift my friend! I can work really hard to improve my voice... but I don’t think I can get to where you are? No matter how much I improve my voice? That’s just awesome sir!
Thought I already gave a reaction but couldn't find it so : Mighty fine singin' , to me the right build up Wanna play this song in my band and really helpfull The last high one ..... use to easy reach them high tones but uuh ... no more can do Thank you and once more , well done , great job!!!!
Yes, Richard. Developing the upper mid voice is something most other vocal methods skip out on entirely, because it requires skill and practice. But it ties in with a powerful transition into a stronger head voice, as well! But then those other methods also skip out on breath support, so they wouldn't be able to do this anyway. These are important aspects of the singing voice. Thanks for noticing!
This was a fantastic cover of this great song...Ken, you are really good at singing and instructing...Yeah, the last chorus was out of the park man!....Thank you so much.
Ken, heard Little River Band.." it's a long way there"! First heard the song on a 747..London to New York.I'm working out harmonies and harmonics.! YOU would so rock this out!
About f-n time!!!!...why doesn't anyone belt this out the same way, just you and Elvis?? Elvis was a bit too clean, but powerful. I thought Chris Robinson would have knocked this out of the park, but he does it mellow. Johnny Lang would be another great to try. Anyway, rambling on now. Thanks a ton for resurrecting this treasure. Say Hello to the music bars on Pine and of course, The "World Famous" Potholder. I miss that place.
Get it Kenny boy I'm totally feeling this one you made this your own I felt you having fun and learned at the same time I can actually learn from someone like you keep soaring high brother !
I was in a rock band in the 80's during High School called Spellbinders. I did alot of Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, and Heart. I wish I would've known u then Ken!
You're SO talented! I always thought this was an Elvis original until I heard Three Dog Night's original. Still prefer Elvis' because I felt more of the story from him. I was inspired to become a singer (not that I am one yet) in the corniest way: when I watched Grease for the first time at about 7 years old. Then I watched Elvis perform and was hooked. I simply fell in love, and the desire to sing has only gotten stronger ever since.
Ken, That was the best rendition of that song that I ever heard!!! Way to go brother!!! I think "Golden Biscuits" was one of the first five albums I ever owned. The only Three Dog Night song I think is better than Never Been To Spain is Eli's Coming.
Awesome, Ken! I love Three Dog Night. Still listen to the old stuff. RIP Cory Wells. There's so many great songs by Three Dog Night. Going in Circles, Pieces of April, One Man Band, Eli's Coming, etc. One of my fav (pls listen to it if you haven't heard it) is Midnight Runaway.
Wow Ken I know this will sound corny but I was a member of the Three Dog Night fan club. Being a Heavy Metal die hard but this group is what you are saying total inspiring. "Chest Fever" from 'Live at the Forum' turned me into Fan for Life. Jimmy Greenspoon's Organ solo has to be the Ultimate of All Time along Michael Allsup fuzz voodoo on it is killer. Cory, Chuck, and Danny had a unbelievable harmonies and vocals. I have worked out some of my own extra lyrics to get more cities included plus a very heavy metallic quality for it. But the vocals remain the star because that is what makes this song shine as they accelerate. Thanks man.
Got to FINALLY see these guys in 2014 before Corey passed!..2 solid hrs of HIGH NRG rockin and perfectly mixed vocals.Really enjoyed your powerful take on this!
WOW! Yeah! Rock, on, Ken!! I wish I could somehow triple like this one!!! Mmmm--mmm-mmmmh! .... Mmmmh!! I grew up on 3 Dog Night and the other groups you have mentioned, and WOW! you ABSOLUTELY KILL THIS!!! Thanks for posting this!!! Mmmmh! I love the way you cover this! And the bluesy guitar throughout (especially starting at 2:00, that's, you, right?). The singing starting at 1:27, 3:04 and 3:37 especially nailed me to the wall! Really, your singing of the whole song is way past awesome!! Whoa! .... Words are useless.... Utterly useless. 100/10.
Awesome! Really enjoyed your singing! The artist that inspired me was garth brooks! Alan jackson! George thorogood! Sweet! Guns n roses! There is still alot
Hi Ken, that was an excellent rendition! I was just checking out Elvis Presley's version of this song and saw your video that was in the recommended list. I really like Shambala, would be awesome to see you sing that song, with the "ah woooooo, ooooh yeah, yeah yeah yeah!" Absolutely!
Wow, that was amazing! I just stumbled onto your "You can sing any song" video today and was intrigued because of the Styx reference. I really love to karaoke classic Grand Funk (Some Kind Of Wonderful) and The Guess Who (No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature) as well as Three Dog Night. I love those soulful, bluesy voices like Don Brewer, Mark Farner, Burton Cummings, Chuck Negron, and Danny Hutton. I can sing the lower register parts pretty good, but I can't do those higher parts without cracking. I was blown away by your last chorus, you just rocked it bro! Thanks for the insight, tips, and inspiration.
Hi, LowPunchmiller! I'm glad you've found my channel. Keep looking at more tunes. I''ve got LOTS of tunes on video. Many of your favorites are mine, too. That's what I'm sharing here. What inspired me. You can pick up some ways in my videos to help you to do a lot better with your karaoke fun!
Hey Ken! I want u to know that I watched ur video on how to sing this song, and I did it in a karaoke contest Saturday night! I won $500.00! Thanks for ur expertise lesson, u r awesome!
Brilliant, and how you finshed the song IS amazing, that's rock 100%.In my time Jim Morrison was the voice and of course, Jagger,Plant,Daltrey.Today this style of rock rotten voice maybe singer of Kings of León,saludos
ken, I am interested. what has been your worst performance since you've been singing professionally (if that isn't too personal) and why did it go wrong? how did you learn from it? he who makes no mistakes makes nothing and, as you say, the proof is in the singing after all. love the lessons!
That is a great question. I think of myself like an athlete (or my voice like an instrument, though I know the voice is organic and much more temperamental than a "guitar" for example). So I train so consistently , that even on "bad" days, I try to be better than most people's good days that don't train. However that being said: of course there are mistakes I make, like trying to show off during sound check and not warming up properly (or going on stage and not warming up properly ...big mistake). Also, staying out late and not getting enough sleep. Things where "I know better not to do." So I would struggle a little harder through a set. But all in all, I try to keep myself in such good shape, that I never have a "bad" show. Just once in a while if I don't take my own advice, I can have "mediocre" shows (for my standard. :-) I hope that makes since.
Really rocks, the song being a good fit for your voice. Very inspirational singing, I really enjoyed it. PS I would suggest more tips in videos as many want to learn.
This is Ken from another account. The fun thing is, I played all the parts on this song... I just love the whole process :-)
This song brings tears to my eyes … My Dad LOVED Three Dog Night … He was born in Oklahoma … loved Spanish black velvet paintings (LOL). He did this song well. Great band. Cory Wells was actually the lead singer on this one, but "What does it matter?"
Hey Ken, just found this little gem. If I wasn’t already following you, this certainly would have grabbed my attention. I really loved your version.
this song was actually sung by one of the most under rated rock and roll singers of all time - Cory Wells.
Your vocals are phenomenal!! Thank you for sharing!
Corey was great. I'm a little pissed that he gave Chuck the credit on that one
Wonderful......! " MAN "...... That Takes Be Back ! Thanks Ken , I Needed THAT !
I'm just shocked by how well you sing. Briliant voice. So honest moviments of happiness i could see in you.
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.
Nice job. They were all great lead vocalists in that band, Cory Wells did lead on Never been to Spain though.
Wow you have such an amazing voice I’m in pure shock and I have chills 😍😍
Thank you, Sophia!
OMG,,, you covered like 6 different octaves... absolutely phenomenal ❤
Three Dog Night was a cover..Original was by Hoyt Axton
I sing the beginning of it down to a T. I sound exactly like the lead singer, but only at the opening of it. I know I can get the whole song with time and lots of practice. Funny story, the jump-rope ends as microphones!

@@kentamplin interesting! How long did it take you?
Ken your voice is amazing. I wish I had your range. Your ability to sing Danny Hutton's part near the end is phenomenal
Thank you, Jeff!
This is the penultimate version of this song. What it’s true potential was always looking for.
And I thought Cory Wells could sing it.
Good God, man! That last note! Very nicely done
now that's how to sing the blues. hats off to you, you are a vocalist genius.
Thank you, Dave! You Rock!
mind blown! that was amazing this song should be covered by more people and made into a harder rock version similar to this. when I listen to the original I just feel like something is missing like there's not enough power vocals and emotion. great job man!
andrew sterbonic= Glad you liked it!
That is a tune that was awesome in my youth & Ken, you knocked it out of the park! What a finish. Goosebumps man.
Thank you, Roger!
Three Dog Night were one of my favs too. Also the lead singer for ‘little River Band’ and ‘Kansas’
Yes. All of these vocalists were great that you mentioned, Barry!
Wow! Ken, you have been blessed with an incredible voice. One of the best I've heard.
Thanks, Kevin!
My god, you're gifted. The ending of that song was incredible
Uh, that’s the best cover I’ve heard of this song. By far. That’s crazy, man. I’m a producer and recording engineer, and that’s some good sh.t right there.
This is so good I might just buy it if it's on iTunes. Awesome singing Ken.
Thank you The Blackstone Project! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I think you have a gift my friend! I can work really hard to improve my voice... but I don’t think I can get to where you are? No matter how much I improve my voice? That’s just awesome sir!
You can do it!
huge 3 Dog Night Fan. favorite as a kid growing up in early 70's.
They were one of my favorite bands, too!
Thought I already gave a reaction but couldn't find it so :
Mighty fine singin' , to me the right build up

The last high one ..... use to easy reach them high tones but uuh ... no more can do
Thank you and once more , well done , great job!!!!
Wow I would love to have a voice like this, Brilliant.
Thanks, David! I appreciate your comment very much!
Not used to hearing a mid and head voice with so much depth/power, and doing a cover song, so its eye opening .
Yes, Richard. Developing the upper mid voice is something most other vocal methods skip out on entirely, because it requires skill and practice. Good vocal Ken. I actually do this one live myself as well. Sorry to correct you but it was actually Cory Wells who sang this one.
As an aside, I am pretty sure that Cory Wells was the lead on that one. Chuck and Floyd were on those ridiculous high harmonies.
:-)
Love it ! Great Job 😊

Woa.. Wow.. Wow... U r seriously awesome
Hey! Thanks for the compliment, J D! :-)
I loved it! Especially the last chorus. That really kicked! I do have one question though. Didm't Cory Wells sing lead on this?
Love It!!
Happy to hear that, Michael!
