  • Welcome today to a large village and one of only two civil parishes in the Borough of Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The main A619 Trunk Road runs through the middle of the village here, the centre of the which is defined by a huge oval shaped junction which has a one way system.
There used to be a hall here, which served as the manor house. It was demolished in 1924 but a fragment of its parkland survives as a green space on either side of Hall Road, and Chesterfield's crematorium is based here too, on the road into Chesterfield, built on 20 acres of ground bought in 1954 and opened in 1959.
Originally a chapelry within Chesterfield, this was created as a separate parish in September 1844 before the Local Government Act 1894 would then established it as a civil parish with a council distinct from the church. With Staveley, a former mining town close by and one which also possessed an iron works too, new areas of the village sprung up to accommodate workers during the industrial revolution.
Now, if you like a pub…or two…or ten…this is your place to come to! There are quite a few just in the village centre. There is an old pub called the Ark Tavern, and others close by like The Red Lion, The Three Horseshoes and The Butchers Arms. All of them are within easy walking distance from each other, so if you fancy a pub crawl guys…
All that and we haven’t even mentioned Chesterfield’s association with cannonballs for use in the Napoleonic wars? The Chesterfield canal would have transported them, along with things like coal, lead, bricks and stone through the parish of BRIMINGTON.

    BRIMINGTON ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    - The Community Centre used to be the Methodist Church.
    - The road that goes up past Posthouse Nursery used to be the main High Street and it was closed off and re routed behind the Three Horseshoes for safety reasons . Gills fruit shop was knocked down (which was a little wooden hut) to put the road in.

I lived in Station Road from 1947 until I got married in 1968. My parents had a shop at the bottom of Bank Street and end of Newbridge Lane. I left the secondary school in 1962 and my wife and I left Chesterfield in 1971. Finished up living in Stourbridge but still come back to watch the Spireites.

Lol! No path out.. don't you hate it when that happens! Great video Andy. I love seeing the roads my ancestors traveled.. (A little nicer today than in the 1600s haha!) I even loved seeing the road sign showing all the places I've researched through the years/decades! I heard some familiar places! Thank you!

I remember when everyone used to for for nights out at Brim Tav (Brimmington Tavern), back in the days when Calow was pronounced "Cayla". (I'm 54, to give you an idea of timescale, & originally from Staveley)

I do wish Chesterfield Borough Council would change their colours from red to blue in keeping with the football team - The Spirites.

I lived in Brinington and left in 1969 , never to return , even back then it was a trouble area , I spent most of my days being bullied by gangs of youths
, the schools or the teachers did nothing to help the situation , My education suffered as I was in constant fear of the gangs that roamed the schools , Not a good experience in my life, Ive spent my life hating a gang leader ( Peter Cookson) who would always have at least 4 people with him when he started to bully people as back up
