Angiogram - BRAIN angio procedure video
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 тра 2021
- A brain angiogram is a relatively common procedure in neurosurgery. Check out this video of an actual brain angiogram where we use a catheter, x-ray imaging guidance and an injection of contrast material to examine blood vessels in the brain for abnormalities such as aneurysms and artero-venous malformations.
Cerebral angiography produces very detailed, clear and accurate pictures of blood vessels in the brain and may eliminate the need for surgery.
Patient: Dr. Gwen Evans
Radiologist: Dr. Adam Rennie
Hospital: The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London, UK.
Thanks to all the team for making this possible and special thanks to Gwen for letting us film her procedure!

Have you had an angiogram? What was it like?
Well done Gwen and the team. I've had numerous angiograms as I have an incredibly rare AVM in my retina and midbrain (called Wyburn-Mason syndrome).
Angiograms are an odd experience and it's like hot static being flushed around the head! But clearly it's an invaluable investigation and this is hugely useful stuff.
i had an MRI angiography (propably the same) to check for artery entrapment syndrome on my legs. I had contrast dye injected into me from my hand artery, with a usual (?) flevo-catheter.
i've seen my legs and thighs in full 3d images, rotated etc, with my arteries "glowing"
PS. Results for artery entrapment were negative.
I'm getting another one in a couple weeks I've had 3 strokes and haven't gotten a MRI in 3 years. Kinda nervous what it will show. I don't think when I had my angio they went through the artery in my leg. They just used my IV I think? Is that common for angiography?
I had a cerebral angiogram with gradient testing of a transverse sinus stenosis. The procedure itself was fairly straight forward however I remember experiencing quite an uncomfortable feeling and pain as the interventionist was testing the pressure gradient! so interesting! I also had insertion of a "angioseal" as a safeguard to prevent any femoral arterial bleeds. (I'm from Australia for reference). I also felt quite a lot of pain in the groin for days following the angio, however in comparison to any invasive brain surgery this is a walk in the park :)
I'm having one for an AVM Thurs. 7/1. I'm already freaked out about the AVM itself, and now about this. I had a trans-jugular liver biopsy 2 years ago, it was truly awful. I told my doctor I would never do something like that again, yet here we are.
This is such an eye opener for the complexity and professional work doctors do. This work deserve more than appreciation and applauses.
I am a highschool student, and I love this channel because I want to be a Neurosurgeon. It's really cool that he takes us through everything! Thank you so much for the great content
As a surgery resident, I would suggest you go to medical school without any preconceived notion about what speciality you want to take up, and give it your best in every department during your clinical rotations. I joined medical school with the idea of going into psychiatry, fell in love with surgery during my clinical rotations. We really have any idea about what a field actually entails while we are in high school, so it's better to keep an open mind. Best of luck!
@@radhika7323 in highschool i was thinking to become a gynecologist. But now as intern I'm thinking about going with psychiatry or ENT. Mind changes with every subject of rotation.

Your videos are way too highly produced and contain so much good content that I can't believe you only have 112k subscribers. Thanks for your videos! I really enjoy them.
Thank you!
.... I love all the technical Equipment, that goes hand in hand with a simple needle injections+dye ! ...great production !!
I had my first ever angiogram yesterday. I viewed this video the night before. Thank you Gwen for sharing your personal story it helped me a great deal and didn’t find the experience overly daunting. I had cerebral angiogram to map pending procedure of coil and stents at the Basilar Tip Artery @ 12 x 9 mm. I hope you continue to be well. I had my angiogram done at Sydney, Australia’s RPA Hospital.. what a great Team of Neuro and other Specialists they have! Thank you again ✨💜🇦🇺🙏 P.S I also had the crazy lightening storm images .. unreal ✨
Absolutely stellar! Thank you to everyone involved in sharing the process with us!
Could NOT figure out how the catheter would be placed and have been so nervous about getting this procedure done. THANK YOU SO MUCH for walking us thru the “actual”happenings. My heart is elated and relieved to have seen your in-depth demonstration. God bless you all! 💛👍
Impressive...both the procedure and the patient....one day, my inner dream to be a specialist in this neurosurgical field shall come to pass. 🙏AMEN🙌
I tell you I’d sleep that little bit better every night, knowing I’m saving lives like this, If I had this as a career. You should be so proud of yourself, so well done man seriously. 👍
I saw that stylish spin of the scrubs pack there... 🤣 Thank you to Gwen for allowing us to come with her through the procedure. And to the medical staff for putting this video up, I love it. It is fascinating.
Thank you. This was an exact account of my own brain angiogram because of an avm bleed in 2012. Thanks for the video it's a great way for me to explain to people who ask what it was like. Hope the patient is doing well and the avm has been dealt with.
These procedure videos are so interesting! Great content as usual 👌🏽
Thank you Dr Evans for letting us see your procedure. Good luck to you
Excellent Video! I have had this procedure done 6 times!
Incredibly interesting video. I recently developed an interest in neurosurgery and this is the perfect channel. Great to see content like this on UA-cam, keep it up
thanks to the team and for the patient for allowing us to see this. It is fascinating. I just only heard of this procedure but never see how it is done. very educational!
She took it a lot better than I did. The contrast being used was the strangest feeling I’ve ever experienced.
for me the worst thing was contrast + injection + i had a feeling that they are putting in some kinda thick tube into my groin. i was really stressed and honestly i don't remember what was after that :D
Does it feel like you're peeing yourself? I have to get CT scans all the time and when they inject the contrast, it feels like you're wetting yourself, and I need to have the garbage right beside me when they get me off the table because the 2L of fluid I need to drink before the procedure, just projectiles out of me.
@@Gaetano.94you mean you throw up afterwards?
getting this procedure tomorrow. video was super helpful!
Having this procedure done tomorrow. Thank you for the video
Very informative! Thanks so much for the content and what you do.
I just want to tell u that I watched ur videos 2 years ago and that inspired me to pursue the UK pathway. . . Now, I just got my GMC registration :) thank u for the motivation . . . I am a neurosurgeon as well.
Good production, informative & helpful. Much appreciated.
I just found your channel and I'm loving these videos! I'm an RN SCRN working in general neurosciences and its great to see things from a different perspective!
Hello, JUST red you comment.
I am strugilling with my health over two years. IT all started with little presh in on the top od my head.
In my countries i am strugilling to get angiogram. How does IT work in your country? Can i get it privetly?
Thank you for any od yours answera.
Really!
Amazing video!! Keep em coming pleasee
I’m having my angio next week and I’m so thankful to have found this video!
Had one 2 months ago I was dreading it but no problem at all. Don't worry😘😘😘
Being interventional neuroradiologist is my dream..nice video.
Thankful for you doll and sharing your experiences
wow 😯 wow 🤩 wow 😯, I am going to give my exams to get into med school 🏫 and after watching your video, I am more motivated to study 📚 more!!! Thank you 🙏
Good luck!
I wish this channel would make a comeback and post more procedure videos
So glad I found this video. I have pulsatile tinnitus that hasn’t cleared up so the doctor wants to check the blood flow with an angiogram. I’m a pretty anxious person when it comes to my health but if I’m informed of what to except it can help me relax a little. Thank you for the video and reassurance.
Hey how are you? It's been a long time no new video posted, i hope you are doing fine good sir!
Thank you! Going in for one tomorrow at Johns Hopkins. This was very helpful!
This is simply amazing
Nearly 50 years ago as a trainee admin. person I spent some months in the London's X ray dept. where all the neuro work was done by Leon Morris working with Messrs King and Watkins. I seem to recall, though it was a long time ago, that the angiograms involved injections in the neck with the patient strapped into a chair that was turned upside down for a while - probably not ideal if there's an aneurysm about to blow but I suppose it was cutting edge at the time.
Thank You, now I know what to expect if this is the route my DR goes to treat my aneurysm!
The content you produce is amazing! I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve recommended check out your website and UA-cam channel!
Thank you!
The “lightning strikes” are incredible I say I’d love to get photo of them.
You guys are an inspiration
I am so glad I found this video, I’m having a CT angiogram for a possible peri-ophthalmic aneurysm in 2days time , and if I’d of got there an encountered this I think I might of walked away , I am now going to ring n see if I can have sedation. Thank you for the video
VERY INFORMATIVE. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Looks very helpful!
This video really helps, my 10 year old son will be having this procedure done on July 8 of this year!
Very helpful n informative
Is there a tube that goes all the way to the brain to release the dye/contrast? Super interesting, I have mine on Tuesday.
Ty I go in for one soon. I'm a wee bit afraid ..it helps to know what I may experience
Incredible!!🙏
What you think is just a scan that doctors can write and order in seconds takes the patent 4 hours to recover from. What an eye opener. How many times does he need to inject dye and does each injection only give one image? And how do they read the images do they have to find anomalies in that short time or after the procedure look at the pictures taken?
Best Doctors in this world
I'm having an angiogram on 8/2/2021 , I am scared to death I had a mini stroke with no paralysis so the thought that I could have another stroke during this scared the shit out of me. They also told me I would not be under I will be sedated I'd rather be under . Im afraid of bleeding out of artery my question is what if the find blockage in the brain does that mean brain su5thdr. Told me he just Hope's it's a blood clot cause medication can handle that, I'm still scared anybody have any thoughts to calm my fears.
hey Alex, any plans on continuing this?
I would love if you did a video explaining chiari malformation and the decompression surgery
I had the procedure in the same room and with most of the team of Gwendoline. In my case the dye injections, of which I have three, made me feel sick and saliva was gushing inside my mouth just as the surgeon was asking me to stay still, without breathing or swallowing 😫 thankfully it was over quickly enough
Thanks for sharing I’m having it after 2 weeks .can you tell me what did you felt after
Wish I had seen this channel 2-3 years earlier
Doctor start making more surgery vids!!
Super I like the best video.very easy to understand.my feel in live angiogram😄procedure. Thank you sir
Thank you Gwen. This really helped in my reading.
I had two so far plus an embolization of a raptured brain aneurysm. I will have another procedure in three days for another aneurysm, a small one but located in a tricky area, at the ACM bifurcation. The procedures are painless and not invasive, the only bad part is that you have to stay on your back for 24 hours and not to bend your leg in order to prevent a rupture of the femoral artery. Wish me luck :)
A quick question doctor can a neurosurgeon do two different fellowships like in tumors and vascular and how realistic is that.
I will be grateful if you answer.
I has this procedure two days ago and mostly I agree with her reaction however, during one dose of the dye my right eye felt like it was on fire, my neck had a severe cramping pain, my legs tingled a lot and my chest was pounding - not out of nerves. That was pretty scary but they said it was normal. I wish I'd had more preparation for the possibility of that kind of pain as opposed to only being told about a heat and fireworks. I also wish I'd known how horrendous the bruising was going to be. However, the doctors were great and the procedure was over quickly.
I have to get an ani gram and I am really stressed
out and considering a general anise-tic which will make my appointment in to the new year.but I know I should get this seen to soon, can anyone tell me if it’s not that bad to be awake when they’re doing it ?
Amazing video, interesting how people commented on the music; wake up people, who cares - this procedure that some of us has to get is risky (you hate the music), how immature. I'm worried about my brain exploding. Thank you for putting this video on You Tube and giving me an opportunity to review my angiogram upcoming procedure. I am hoping they put me to sleep.
Hey doctor, i miss your videos. How are you? I hope all is good.
Hi My Father had a stroke in 2018 and his ruptured Aneurysm was closed using the endovascular coiling technique. we just recently found out during his Imaging CTA that he has 2 more Aneurysms. results say as "There is a left Paraclinoid segment aneurysm measuring 3 mm. possible 2-3 mm aneurysm in the right paraclindoid location. There is a 2 mm nodular focus adjacent to the coil pack which either represents a residual or recurrent aneurysm." --- we have an appointment with a neurosurgeon but still wanted to ask how severe these findings are?
Have my procedure tomorrow. doesn’t look evasive at all. 👍🏼
What is the diff between othopaedic spine surgeons and neuro spine surgeons?
I had a brain hemmorage 5 years ago. Had brain surgery survived, then they told me during the surgery they found a big one right in the middle of my brain. Had 2nd brain surgery 7 months later. Now my original bleed anurysm site is doing fantastic. The middle one, however, has come back. I have a cerebral angiogram in 3 weeks to see if a piece of mesh will fit the anurysm. Then my 3rd brain surgery a few weeks after that. I'm tired of it all, to be honest. I'm scared this time I won't survive.
Hey , how did it go ?
hope you are okay.
How are you doing?
@fayeart5277 hi faye having the cerebral angiogram on 4th. If the mesh fits. Brain Surgery on the 12th. Thanks for asking hun 😘
@@sammy5674 I wish you all the best, I know it's difficult but try and think positive thoughts. I can relate to how you feel. I have three aneurysms two of which I had clipped by a pterional craniotomy. I thank my lucky star's and a excellent neurosurgeon for a positive outcome so, far. I still have a road to travel regarding aneurysms.
You have to think positively. 🙏
WHERE DID YOU GOOOO
Thank you ❤thank you ❤
Hi, is everything ok with you Dr. Brain? Just wondering as I haven't seen an upload in a while.
What about those who have inguinal lymphoma/lymphedema/lymphadenopathy?
Is it safe to do implant titanium plate after 2year of pituitary adenoma surgery?
And implant is lifetime or not?
Pls reply...
my mom had a stroke, the MRI's show that its small and that the side effects happening shouldnt really be caused by the area affected. Now after a spinal tap i approved, and finding out the day after; was done by a rookie college intern who failed to do it correctly and had to do it twice.... im scared to approve anything for my mother going forward.
IS THERE ANY REASON OR PAIN THAT A PATIENT CANT HANDLE AN ANGIO?
Hi I was trying to see masters course I saw to courses neuroscience and Clinical neuroscience can u tell me if they r the same or different
I am in need of one. Based on my cranial symptoms I very much suspect I have a DAVF on the right side of my skull. (Anybody know if they show up on modern MRA's without the use of gadolinium contrast agent?)
Thanks for sharing this video i have this done in a few weeks. Now i know ill be fine.
I would just like to ask how the procedure went?
I don't know if u'll manage any time to answer this, still how many surgeries do you do in a month ( major+minor)?
Hello i am a patient of traumatic brain i have some questions about my disability caused by traumatic brain injury so please can you answer my questions your answers Will much helpful for me. Waiting for your reply. Thank you
An odd question, but do surgeons get used to the smell of blood?
I’m having my procedure Monday February 15th 2022 I’m ready! Nervous but ready
I've had an angiogram. I wish I had seen this video before I had it for #PatientEd reasons. The patient experience was the same as per the video.
I have sat in front of my computer, for 10 straight month, refreshing this UA-cam page. Still no upload :(
thanks so much for this video. my neurologist is sending me to get one of these due to a super tiny aneurysm found after an mra. honestly watching this video made me dizzy from the blood to the descriptions of the eye flashes to the potential risks but at least i have enough time to mentally prepare myself for it now 😖
Did u do any procedure to remove anuresym?
Does the patiend has a stent placed on the imagens?
where did you go?
I'm having one this Friday for an AVM
What is the reason to perform this brain angiogram
My daughter has a very large AVM...her first bleed was in 1999. They went up through her groin and used 77 coils to stop the bleed. When it bleeds, the only thing they do is go up through her groin to her brain and use a new "Glue" type stuff to stop it.
Hey sir my mom had a surgery 2 month ago she is walking us eating liquid diet without rice tube and scream on pain but didn't remeber anything not able to talk how much she take time for rememb ering us
Seeing no flush lines is mind boggling to me! I know we all do it different ways to get the same outcome!! So cool to see no flush lines at work 🤟🏽
Hi, Can I have brain angiogram, if I have metal in my head?
I may need this due to something with a jugular bulb? Yep, definitely declining that now!
I’m getting an angiogram done in a month. Less anxious now.
Can you be a sleep for a angiogram ?
Is it possible this procedure could cause a CSF leak? Ever since i had this procedure 3 minths ago i have had so much pain and its just getting worse.
Yes I've had one in south Africa wasn't so bad... The cut was sore
Why the stoppage in uploads - would love to see some new videos!
I’ve had two angiograms post AVM. I was under anesthesia for both. I thought it would be interesting to watch but instead it made me nauseous.
I am having this done soon, and lowkey kinda scared. having done for the same reason. I shouldnt be scared about this since ive had over 12 surgeries before and im fine with surgeries but yet having a angio done for some reason scares me.. But thank you for this video explains it in a way i can understand. so now i know a bit of what i can expect. Im pretty sure they might make me sleepy (with some meds) for im more relaxed cause I have a hard time staying still sometimes. and I know its very important to stay still for this,
Is it safe procedure
