I volunteer weekly at a shelter in Miami and help dogs get adopted at our events. Your videos have transformed the way I work with all the dogs, especially the most challenging dogs, all of whom are well over 55 pounds. (I’m 5’3”, 125lbs) I am certain my taking your course would make a big difference.

I have a 115lb Neutered Rhodesian Rigeback in good health. Had him since 11 Weeks. From month one he has been reactive on a leash. I have had multiple dogs in my life and never had this kind of challenge. I am in my 60's and sometimes feel like I am in over my head with this pup. He is now 2.5 years and walks are a challenge. He sits at curbs and listens and walks wonderfully... until he sees another dog or cat and "some" humans. Especially if the other dog reacts first. But it is not an aggressive reaction.. he wants to play. I am now using a head halter and that seems to give me more control but the reactivity is there. I will not give up, He is mine for life. But it would sure be nice to be able to take him out more, when we go places that have other well behaved dogs. Thank you for your videos

We have a Pittie / Corso mix . Socialized since he was 5 weeks old, no bad experience. At puberty if a dog rushed or challenged him in any way he would react. We fixed him at 11 months. He stopped with the aggressive smelling and wanting to mount dogs or humans. He is 4 years old now and 120lbs . We’ve had he going out on pack hikes with up to 15 various dogs every week and he is middle of the pack dog.
However one on one he still does not like other dogs approaching him.
As Tom says obedience , boundaries great loving leadership is the key to managing him. With that he understands his boundaries and no reaction, we catch it before it starts. However we are always on the lookout for people who allow their unleashed dog lose. It’s up to us to make them feel safe. Tom’s videos are so educational . Continue to put in the time and it will pay off. Just like bringing up kids 🐶💕🐾

I just rescued a 14 month old shepherd from my local shelter after losing my bestest girl of 2 years to cancer. Your videos changed how I approach my relationship with my new dog. I keep my commands one worded, straight and to the point. We crate train, crate feed and reward with treats and ball play as rewards and leash corrections when she tries to dodge the commands. I’m so grateful to have listened to your podcast and continued to watch your videos as they’ve taught me so much more about dog culture.

I'm a third generation, life long animal caretaker and dog handler. My grandmother advised me to watch your videos because she (a trainer with 40+ years of experience) finds them so educational! We're the sort of animal folks who can understand animals, but struggle to explain what is happening verbally to other humans. Your videos have helped me to develop my communication skills with clients, and I always recommend your videos to my clients. Thank you so much!!!

Your videos have been a blessing. My "reactive" dog just finished an obedience class with 8 other dogs. After working with this dog for 4 years, we finally have established the right relationship. Does he like other dogs? Nope! But does he have confidence to communicate with me and know he can cope in many situations and different environments? YES! Thank you ❤

These are all examples of what I have had to do with my rescue. He was abused by his last family. I did these with his trainer, and now he's playful yet cautious with strangers. I totally feel these tips are foundational even for well-mannered pups. Thanks Tom for the video.

I'm in Florida with a moderately reactive adopted adult GSD/Rottweiler mix. I do have a bad habit of talking to him while we're on hikes. I do it as a safety measure to alert wildlife and other hikers that we're coming. We do have good obedience until another dog "surprises" us on the trail or on our neighborhood walks (barking dogs behind fences or on tie-outs). I'd love him to be able to stay neutral in all situations, not just at parks or on sidewalks.

My wife and I have been following you since we adopted our 6 year old Shepard / Bull Terrier mix. He has been reactive towards dogs (but plays with some) since we got him. We took him to group obedience training and we'recurrently trying the canny collar with the trainer. He has improved a lot. And the biggest thing we saw was us learning how to train and building a relationship! Your course would be a blessing as we have been struggling with Otis' behaviour for nearly a year now.

Great video! Loki is a rescue who absolutely loves my golden retriever, Biscuit. Loki was running around the neighborhood for at least 3 weeks before a neighbor caught him (that was a year ago and he was about a year old). Shortly after I decided to adopt him, he displayed reactivity to most dogs. I had tried all kinds of trainings starting with positive reinforcement and obedience. I would walk him from a distance and then we would get closer when he didn't react. He does have some dog friends from that but it took longer and longer for him to get used to the dog. I have tried working with 5 trainers and the last one did help improve obedience during his stay with her. Unfortunately she never saw the reactivity. When we did some training in my neighborhood he reacted (even with her holding the leash). We have tried all tools out there without success (including e collar and prong). The most success we have had is the positive training combined with sniffing exercises and a slip lead/head harness but it is not much of an improvement. He has also started being reactive to bikes in the last 6 months. So now I keep trying but am a bit at a loss. His obedience is good for the most part though it is tested with distractions. And he is really pretty driven so outside he becomes more focused on the environment though we are working on that. Would love to figure out a better system that will work so I can walk him more often and be able to not worry he will react. I currently manage it but it isn't easy at all. And last week we got a bit derailed when an off leash dog came at us and we couldn't get away fast enough and the owner didn't have good recall and also wasnt fast. The two dogs scuffled but luckily no one but myself got hurt when I tripped over my dogs leash. 😢

I’m from northern VT and have a very reactive 110lb lab mix. I am so anxious now, and fee ashamed of the fact that we’ve avoided social situations with him after some stressful encounters (we live in the woods so that’s easy) and I just want to help him SO badly. I’m glad I found your videos and hopefully we can work through some things with your training programs.

After mooving from a rural setting to a busier area our 1.5 years old, neutered, male shepherd mix started to be leash reactive - launching at cars, people, cats, deer, other dogs and even a leaf on the ground. Your videos have been a huge help in coaching me, the human, and we are now able to go for 20 Minute walks at a time in the day when they are not that many triggers out without him launching. Before introducing more triggers into our walks I like to "tune my skills up" by taking your course to give the two of us the highest chance of success.

Tom, I really like how you describe the importance of a great foundation. I think something I’ve learned from my own dog training journey (we have a 10 month old Australian Shepherd) is that your foundation is built on investing the time into your dog’s behavior. They made need more or less than another dog depending on the specific personality and breed of your dog. Our dog is still developing every day and our consistency has been critical in her development. Thanks so much for providing us with a glimpse into your experience and expertise.

I would love to enjoy a complimentary reactivity course. My 14-month old Dobie has been reactive and scared of most things since I got him at 8 weeks. I've worked with trainers and I work hard every day, working on this. Months ago I switched to a Martingale pinch collar, which helps, but we still have reactivity problems. Last night was a good break through. I stopped to chat with a new neighbor, a big guy, wearing a hat and sunglasses. My Dobie barked and lunged a bit, then up on his hind quarters to twist and spin. I put him in the "sit," lasted a few seconds. Did this a couple of time. Then decided not to use verbal commands. Instead, I used the correction collar as needed. I remained calm, and continued speaking to my neighbor. Within two or three minutes, my Dobie calmed enough to be still and silent, no longer focused on the neighbor. He stood at my side and looked around. I hope this means I showed leadership by not losing control or getting frustrated with my pooch. As always, Tom, I am grateful for all your hard work and dedication to dogs, trainers, and human owner/handlers.

Boone likes everybody and leans toward being submissive with most other dogs. Our struggle is his excitement when people come to our house or on a walk when they want to pet him. I’ve watched ‘a ton’ of your videos and what you teach makes perfect sense until we’re in a situation and I can’t think straight. But thankfully when we look back we can see steady improvement has been taking place. Thank you for guiding us along the way.

I actually thought about purchasing the reactivity course as I’ve learned so much from your UA-cam videos and the free membership trial. I was discouraged by all the negative comments about it when I did a google search, but you know what? It’s going to be my next step in training, because I want to know I’ve tried everything to help my girls out. Thank you for your work. Putting a prong on my mali x was the first step towards gaining some confidence that I could handle her and to make our walks more manageable while we worked on obedience. She’s now on a flat collar with a backup harness as the prong was not helping with her big reactions, but we couldn’t have gotten here without the exposure. Grateful.🙏

Thank you for the video! My dog has always been reactive since I adopted him at 6 months old, but I believe the main reason he became even more reactive is because of my own fear. I think he's just trying to protect me, especially from boys and men. It’s entirely my fault, and I’m working on it. I’m doing my best to change my mindset.

I would love to own your course but I’ve been on disability since July 2023 due to a severe injury that happened at work and my income is limited monthly and barely pays the bills. I don’t get to go back to work till next year sometime either. My dog could 100% benefit from your course so that she would be way better behaved on walks and around other people and there dogs. Hello, Tom!
Still sharing your site everywhere I go, am excited to share that our local pet store has your site and is excited about your videos! 😊
With our new (dumped, injured stray from last year) german shepherd training has been going great! I am SO ready to take the basics to the next level, and should I be chosen also be sharing what I learn at our pet store (am guilty of helping customers when they bring their pups and I see them struggling with control in the store 🤭).
With our Zane, it took most of a year from him to finally really warm up to us and realize there will never be abuse in our home, and we will never abandon him. The transformation in the last month has been epic!
    Safe travels overseas!

I have been following for many years now. In our second set of dogs. We didn't think our pitbull was dog friendly because we rescued her from a fighting ring. However we slowly worked a small black mouth cure into our home and they are the best of friends. Very high energy. However they both go nuts with anyone walking down the street. I realize I need the appropriate equipment to help communicate. We would appreciate any help we could get in this matter. We are a forever dog home so learning these skills will be a life long benefit. We're in Denver CO.

100% do agree with the fact that any of those 5 issues are to do with the owner. If the dog owner is nervous, fearful or not confident, then the dog will be the same or the dog will feel like they have to take over and become protective. It's all about assertiveness, calmness and confidence with you first if you want to have the same with your dog.
You can't have one without the other.

    Leslie from Abilene TX.
We have a Mini Aussie who we think had bad experiences with other dogs before we got her. She has great obedience when she’s at home or no one is around outside. She likes dogs once she gets to know them. She’s been through PetSmart’s basic group class and did great. She was nervous, but she still listened. I’ve been watching your videos and trying to implement what I can, but I’m not making any progress. She also does this way less with other people. Mostly me.
I do talk a lot to her but not so much when we are out on a walk. Usually just when we are inside relaxing.

My girl is a on-leash reactive pitbull mix. I've been watching your videos for a long time and a lot of improvement has occurred in many other areas. I would love to attend a physical training session with you, but, I live in Costa Rica😢 there is a serious lack of trainers here that are willing to put the time and patience it takes or in the country period, it's sad.
She does listen to commands, for example just today a lovely lady allowed me to expose my dog to her's, my dog lunged about three times, all three times met with the pop of the leash and then I commanded to sit and she did, but hair is still standing and she's huffing and puffing in spot. I've tried as many things as I thought were/are possible but there's always something to learn. Especially with your course.
Treats are a no go, no matter if it's juicy chicken, she does not enjoy food or her toys out of the House bc she is too busy being reactive.
I want her to be able to enjoy her walks more just as much as I would love too, take her places, I want her to be a free dog.❤

Just got a 3yr old boxer from a rescue. They said he was great with other dogs, he bonded with ours great. Went for a walk and we went nuts trying to get to other dogs walking across the street. Definitely appreciated your video, we have some work to do with our new pup.

My 3 year old Australian Shepherd has been like this too since we moved. He boards with other dogs, goes to doggy daycare and plays with other dogs great. But when we're on a leash or there's some barrier to what he wants, he barks like a maniac. Obviously scary for others. It can get better!

    Hi Tom!
We're just outside of Montrose pa and you're definitely needed in this rural area!
Our guys are getting worse. First territorial both people and other animals. I got them good with rabbits n deer, but the neighbors cats and humans with dogs walking past no longer are tolerated.
They are still good in public with people, but even our camper and the kennel are now second homes.
Close calls with other toy reactive dogs, others barking etc... I think have contributed.
Now even other puppy that one was good with.
    Help!

Thank you. I think 90% of my clients hear these 90% of these words from me. If they understand the message, I do not need to see them twice. This video comes as close as you possibly can in 10 minutes to explaining everything an uninformed Dog Owner needs to know.

I find your videos very informative and well thought out. Reactivity is a huge challenge. I've successfully trained several of my dogs through the years, but my foster fail of almost two years is still reactive to the point that neither of us gets enough walking time because he has injured me by pulling me off my feet, and there were a few times I thought we would both end up under a car. We'll keep working at it, though.

We've come a long way since watching your videos. We've gotten to the point where we can walk past a neutral dog, but walking past another reactive dog sometimes puts my dog over threshold. We know the problem dogs (really, the owners) to avoid in our neighborhood. If this course could keep my dog neutral around other reactive dogs, it would be a game changer!

Hello Tom, from Australia. I love your videos. Thank you for putting them out there. I have a 3 year old German Shepherd who is reactive to certain sounds, the postie, delivery people, people wanting to touch him. He’s great when we accept people into our home, but he’s not good with people he doesn’t know.

Absolutely love your videos! I am in Indiana and have been watching you since I got my now 9 month old Pomsky. We have gone through one obedience class but he is still reactive to people and other dogs and pulling on the leash. They said he was really shy so we are still working on building his confidence and the basic commands with him. Hopefully we will have them mastered soon! Thanks for you're help through your videos!

As always you give clear advice, so many people underestimate the power of the basics commands, my dog doesn't really like other dogs but he can walk side by side with a few chosen ones. Our problem is that he doesn't really like other people either, he can be neutral as long as they don't bother him and don't try to pet him, however people are the problem as they don't listen when I tell them to just leave him.
Anyway thank you Tom and Tom's team for bringing all this information and training techniques to so many all over the world and free of charge. Amazing content always.

Definitely ❤ the Myth Buster that all dogs have to like all dogs and people, but owners need to know how to mange that and not have unrealistic expectations. I really enjoy watching your videos for different reasons, clear explanations/expectations to both dogs & humans, I like seeing how you mange both private & group settings, I love getting confirmation on yep that’s how I would handle that situation and especially love when you show something I forgot or haven’t thought of, and I would love to experience all this in person.

Hi Tom ! I Just wanted to thank you for giving us these videos for free. They have been incredibly helpful. I have a 4 yo GS which was extremely reactive. I watched your videos and I think we have made such improvment. We are not there yet but we are better. Previously I had tried with 7 different trainers and to be honest all I did was wasting money. I hope someday I can purchase one of your courses. Im from Colombia 🇨🇴 so sadly I can not afford it, but know that you are so inspiring and you are changing lives. 😄

Tom thank you so much for all you do you don't know how much you've helped me it's been so difficult my daughter and I are both disabled we're not wheelchair-bound however we have a rare genetic disorder called EDS syndrome very painful My daughter's 27 doctor specialist advised us to get a dog to support her physically and mentally! Our condition is very RARE , With our condition our legs start shaking and we can just fall down at any time as well as having what you call a syndrome p.o.t.s . My daughter and I are both on disability. It's been extremely difficult. it's a long story. The bottom line is we have a 3 year old German Shepherd ( neutered at the age of 16 months) .we have had him since he was 6 weeks old unfortunately we got him right before covid. When covid hit no one was training. Unfortunately we are immune compromised so we got covid four times I did my best to train kylo (German Shepherd) went through a couple of trainers that I couldn't afford or it wasn't a good fit. Unfortunately kylo had been attacked a couple times as well. He's a really good dog he has leash reactivity and my daughter has the difficult time training with him physically So between your videos and other trainers I just did the best I could to train him. we live in California we really could use your help. We are financially on a dime short from being on the streets it's very difficult.
I just so want kylo to be trained correctly so he can do what he was supposed to be used for and that was to help my daughter with her condition as well as having some type of normal life. Again he is not super bad I've been able to train him to do certain things in the house such as take things up the stairs to my daughter. He knows basic commands. However we need help. If you're unable to help us it's okay all your videos have been so helpful and I just thank you so much for all the love you have for all the dogs and the people that have helped these dogs deserve to be properly trained .it's not fair to dogs never mind the fact of it being extremely irresponsible of an owner not to properly train their dog.. Thank you again I (we)) appreciate all you do!❤
