The strange thing that I've only come to realize later in life, is that in terms of the original themes and concepts of the earliest R&C games, Deadlocked actually makes way more sense as the third entry in the Trilogy than Up Your Arsenal ever did. The original R&C had a cynical edge to it, and it presented a world where Corporate power and Consumerism has basically run amok (shoutout to the Plumber who can't evacuate Novalis because, no joke, he can't afford an escape ticket and has to "wait for Captain Qwark" to save him, "Socioeconomic Disparity" indeed). Chairman Drek is part mafia boss, part corrupt CEO. The whole reason he needs to build a new homeworld is because _he_ polluted and soiled their old one. He reveals in the climax of the game that his whole evil plan revolves around making obscene amounts of money: _"You see, I've been paid for every square inch of my new world. Once the inhabitants move in, I'll begin polluting this world as well. Then the whole thing starts all over again"_ It's all about money for Drek. He's a greedy Corporate CEO. This is the first stage; fighting the corporation. Now on to Going Commando. Consider just how powerful MegaCorp is. One of the slogans on MegaCorp's Weapon vendor is "MegaCorp: your best choice, your _only_ choice" Qwark, whilst posing as Mr. Fizzwidget, films a commercial for a MegaCorp weapons facility that begins thus: _"MegaCorp keeps you warm, keeps you healthy, and now, keeps you safe"_ MegaCorp really does seem to produce pretty much all goods and provide all services you can find in the Bogon Galaxy, with small companies like Thugs-4-Less providing some very scant few exceptions. Essentially, MegaCorp is one huge, galaxy-wide monopoly, which is honestly a pretty scary thought. Qwark himself exploits MegaCorp's immense reach to engineer the Protopet menace in the first place. Going Commando then becomes the second step in this chain: Being employed by, and doing underhanded work for, the corporation. And then we have Deadlocked, where this chain culminates the only way it could: being _exploited_ by the corporation. Gleeman Vox is a megalomaniacal multimedia mogul (say that three times fast) who quite literally puts people's lives on the line for the sake of profit, and pursues new ways to squeeze money out of his "contestants" with sicophantic zeal. His outburst detailing all the merchandise he would make off of Ratchet's image ( Action Figures, Breath Mints, Sports Shoes, Earmuffs etc.) is a case in point. The cynical perspectives on corporatism and consumerism are taken to their logical extreme here, with literal gladiatorial combat to the death being sold and marketed to _children_ without a second thought. _"That's right kids: Exterminator trading cards are here..."_ _"The little Billies and Susies of the world are spending a trillion bolts a day on worthless swag..."_ Etc. I gotta say: talk about things you never noticed as a kid.
Maybe Up Your Arsenal would come after Deadlocked, in which case there would be less weapons and more mods in UYA. It would be interesting to see an alternate where we got Deadlocked in 2004 and Up Your Arsenal in 2005. Granted, there would have to be a few differences, but still.

I was very surprised to find that Ratchet: Deadlocked, the FOURTH installment in the series probably has the best storytelling of any game in the franchise. The plot was interesting, characters were memorable and it came to a very satisfying conclusion at the end when all the people who were against you started supporting you. I feel like this could of easily been adapted to be the ratchet & clank movie instead of what we got. The fictional robocop-esque ads would of even made more sense in that context.
The game also had one of the best gun gameplay in the series with the mods on weapons. It is honestly better than what we get in Rift Apart and up there with UYA

+Evey Kano i agree! Up your arsenal may have been the very first Ratchet and Clank game, so that i didn't understand what was happening, but damn did I love the action!!!
This game had some of the best cameos in all of video games, honestly. Dr. Nefarious at the very end just for fun couldn't have been any stronger of a note to end on.
Don't judge Big Al for dancing to Courtney Gears. That could be how he relieves stress. And this IS a very stressful situation that they're in. Anyone knows Stress makes it hard to think logically, so keep shaking that big ass of yours, Al. Ratchet needs you even if he doesn't admit it. I recently binged this game with a few disgustingly focused sessions and I had a blast. I consider this more of a spinoff than a main series entry due to the lack of Clank and the robots who help you, but it's a damn fine game!
Man, I miss the writing of the PS2 Ratchet and clank games. It had humor both adults and kids could enjoy while the newer Ratchet games feels like there written for 5 year olds only.
Deadlocked game was my all time favorit game of R&C along with Up your Arsenal in the PS2 generation. Gleeman Vox was a great villain along with Dr Nefarious. My favorite cutscene was 6:10 when Al dancing to Courtney Gears and Ratchet meets the hilarious battle bots Merc and Green. :)
CNN & MSNBC are today's mainstream liars. Just a few days ago MSNBC had a journalist pretend to be walking against a storm where you could clearly see people on the other side of the road walking normaly. I have no idea about Fox news though, honestly, but they definently can't be worse than CNN & co.
Me and my brother use to play Deadlocked way more than any other ratchet and clank the writing plot and characters were so good and the best part is the awesome setting where your literally a gladiator fighting for your freedom. Man I wish I could go in a time machine and play this with my brother right now.
I noticed some of the dialogue is different. In the PAL version, Vox calls his media empire 'Pox'. I noticed here in the scene with Ace he calls it the 'Gleeman Vox Media Empire'
I think I speak for all of us Gladiator/Deadlocked Veterans when you play this game 5 times over on Exterminator Rank, you tend to think literally all the enemies are just one big joke. And when you then play on Couch Potato mode, you feel like Doomguy going for a very enthusiastic walk.
@@Safehouze__ the Ps2 had none of the glitches present in the HD version, no stuttering or visual glitches, this remaster is just VERY POORLY DONE, to the point where there's many more bugs than the original
From my experience so far, two cutscenes at the start are bugged, one of the middle missions you have to restart since sometimes the objectives stages don't complete (it's the one where you save fans in balloons, not the last one), and some of the later missions have some frame drops, also one of the very last missions may crash the game but not always, overall it's playable and complete-able.
I think this game was the most adult rated and the darkest game of all the ratchet and clank games. So much sex jokes and profanity like a lot than normal lol and I LOVE every second of it!

Quark was just a washed up hero who was going to be Chairman Drek's spokesperson and media face. Killing people wasn't in the job description until Ratchet and Clank became a problem.
@@furiousfinch1587 Speaking of Qwark, I'm surprised Dreadzone didn't kidnap him too
@@kidprime6863 I'm not. Vox can smell a has-been from a parsec away.
@@furiousfinch1587 And a scandaller
I love how the media trys too trash Ratchet's image making him look out to be the bad guy after each achievement his accomplish.
Prime example of the "Blatant Lies" trope. On a side note, I don't think the inhabitants of the R&C universe take Vox News seriously.
Yep
@@atasker7432 Al took it seriously.
Guess they aren't that different from us.
@@azazel166 But Clank DID tell him that Vox News is a load of b@#$t.

Jake Relind well at least the lying part.

I remember playing this game with my brother in co-op mode...like man good times.
Same here except I had to play with my cousin my brother was always whining about wanting to be Ratchet.

19:02 He just wanted Courtney Gears!
yeh by dancing to Courtney gears

Don't we all?
I hope that one day we can get a true and amazing remake of this game. Still my favorite one of the series and I wish the game had so much more content because it's still worth playing to this day imo!
6:11 my man Big Al was getting into the dance and can’t blame him that song is sooo good
This game was Hardcore!!!!!!!! LOVED it! It's my second favorite with up your arsenal being number 1. (Future games are separately)
+Evey Kano i agree! Up your arsenal may have been the very first Ratchet and Clank game, so that i didn't understand what was happening, but damn did I love the action!!!
+Andrés Pétur Axelsson (Adventure Man) the first? it was the 3rd right after Ratchet and Clank, and Going Commando, Deadlocked is the 4th.
SilverCraftCat i ment the first R&C game that I played, i just forgot to write that :P
Andrés Pétur Axelsson oh okay, sorry, it just confused me
Eoin Woulfe I agree I understand I see your point
9:23 wow the graphics got broken maybe
When Vox tries to get Ratchet to be a sellout he offers video games and movie rights, I fall off my bed and say "He already has those dummy!" lol
"Queer eye for the tyrranoids"
Vox - I GET IT!!!!
This game had some of the best cameos in all of video games, honestly. Dr. Nefarious at the very end just for fun couldn't have been any stronger of a note to end on.
29:11 "Movie rights."
"NO DEAL, VOX!
"What did you say?"
@@kidprime6863 "I'm not your puppet, Vox! You think I'd reboot my own image to get rich? You're not just corrupt, you're stupid"
@@cliffturbo2146 "WHY YOU- PRH GRT- ... grrhhh! You just signed your own death warrant!"
4:15 I love how the bad ps3 port makes the villain look even more even by making him wear his own teeth as a facial hair
Man, I miss the writing of the PS2 Ratchet and clank games. It had humor both adults and kids could enjoy while the newer Ratchet games feels like there written for 5 year olds only.
Whereas this game is more dark and definitely fits the T rating.
I'm still wondering why Ace hardlight was top player i mean eviscerator was more challenging then he was.
@@Softpaw1996 I'd bought Eviscerator's action figure over Ace's
A lot of people didn't like this game, but it's among one of my favorites
I too have enjoyed Deadlocked.
Every character Michael Bell voices in this series is amazing to listen to. Lawrence, Vox the Biker Quark's Holovid Narrator.
14 years later and Vox news is still the most entertaining thing I've seen in video games! (Especially thanks to Juanita and Dallas)
Ratchet: you're not just corrupt you're stupid.
My thoughts exactly.
That line stuck with me as a kid.
"CM‘ON, MEIN LITTLE FÜRRY MANN, TIME TO DIE !!!" I love Shellshock xD
He's one of my favourite villains in the series.
Darkstar263 And he had the coolest boss fight in Deadlocked :D
Agreed. I found the other bosses disappointing.
The Trust If the good old Arnold were a robot, that robot would be Shellshock :D
This is the only Ratchet game Ive ever played.
It remains a core memory of my childhood PS2 experience
You really need to play the first trilogy, I highly recommend after playing it last year.
vox news=fox news? Wonder if it's a coincidence.
+ben outlaw
Not in the slightest. In fact, the direct parody they pull here is kind of unsettling.
+ben outlaw Well considering they both make up !@#$ about people it seems like that's not the case
ben outlaw funny thing is that vox news is an actual thing now days
Fox really good nowadays. CNN and other SJW’s lie through their teeth bout trump and the republicans. The insane ppl who want to take away free speech
CNN & MSNBC are today's mainstream liars. Just a few days ago MSNBC had a journalist pretend to be walking against a storm where you could clearly see people on the other side of the road walking normaly. I have no idea about Fox news though, honestly, but they definently can't be worse than CNN & co.
ll the censored swearing scenes kill me every time XD
30:27 Loved this part
Me and my brother use to play Deadlocked way more than any other ratchet and clank the writing plot and characters were so good and the best part is the awesome setting where your literally a gladiator fighting for your freedom. Man I wish I could go in a time machine and play this with my brother right now.
38:40 You can’t beat this kind of comedy !!! You can’t get jokes like that in the modern era priceless!!!
9:22 HOLY SHIT
I said the exact same thing. What happened to the video quality. Holy shit.
+Spawnpoint Gaming Let's just say the HD remake had some.... problems.

Take22 Hey, it's a T rating, though :P
Noted.
@Xx Jhonny Boy 874 xX When the first three games were released for the first time, they were rated T, not E10+.
@Xx Jhonny Boy 874 xX That's on the collection where they changed the rating to E10+. The PS2 versions are rated T.
I am fairly confident E10+ was not a thing in the early 2000s.
The realist ratchet game to date still... this was for the true fan who wanted to really test combat with ratchet... loved that mace.
WOAH... C-camera? CAMERA? WTF CAMERA!? XD It zoomed in so close, it went into Ratchets face!
When?
Michael Ward In the beginning when Ratchet enters his first arena match.
Wtf is wrong with so many models in these cutscenes ._.
Uri de Vries it’s the ps3 remastered version. There are glitvhes in this ported version
@@Safehouze__ it wasn't like that in the original ps2 version.

I noticed some of the dialogue is different. In the PAL version, Vox calls his media empire 'Pox'. I noticed here in the scene with Ace he calls it the 'Gleeman Vox Media Empire'
Ratchet saying "bring it" to Reactor with that facial expression was the most badass moment of ratchet and clank history
Jesus, that's a lot of clipping in the character animation!

Vox's clipping gums makes him look even more terrifying thanks to the HD port. Not sure how that happened, really.

I played this game, Jak X, and Sly 3 on a jampack demo. Time flys by fast
ITS TIME TO BLOW S&@T UP!
They really rushed this remaster. Terrible shame. So glitchy. And they never bothered to release patches to fix it
Tyro Horse still it's a great game even if the graphics are a bit messed up
@@Safehouze__ the Ps2 had none of the glitches present in the HD version, no stuttering or visual glitches, this remaster is just VERY POORLY DONE, to the point where there's many more bugs than the original
21:08 This part used to make me laugh so much everytime I repeated it lol
19:51 Ratchet Hey? You look like a squirrel wrapped in tin foil. I’m gonna take my time taking you apart. 😂🤣
