I think I know why I like cult of paint's videos so much. It's like going over to your mate's place after work to chat and catch up about the hobby for a few minutes before you head home yourself. You leave impressed and excited about the next hobby session or game day. Thanks Henry!
Current Kill Team has brought me back to this video, and it's just so good. You've perfectly emulated that classic scheme, and it just gives me the perfect hobby nostalgia. And the addition of Necromunda bases is simply chef's kiss! So well done!
Those are probably the best Guard Models i have ever seen. The scheme combines modern and oldhammer guard perfectly. Just like the new models with their design.
Great conversion and paint job. What you have done here is the greatest thing about collecting imperial guard in my opinion. Kitbashing to make medics, snipers, guardsmen in different situations and then coming up with a story in your mind for every one of them.
What I love most about Henry's videos is how earnest and approachable he is; when his phone dinged at 13:31 he could have very easily just done another take and swapped in the audio but he left it in because ehh, whatever, and it doesn't take anything away from the video; it's just a cute little human moment that's missing from a lot of hyper-polished videos you see on other channels sometimes.
lost count of how many times ive watched this one now. Like others have said, this was what Guard was when I first got into the hobby. This just helps with the inspiration of my passion project to make the most individual guard squads possible, mixing kits is all part of the process!
Great to see another throwback to early artwork scheme brought to life. I have been considering the Necromunda 8th for a while, and you sir may just be the inspiration I needed. Thank you.
Really liked this video, thank you. Pleased to see the old Spiders March again too ☺ A very interesting (and simple) paint job of those tiger stripes, rather inspiring 👍
Think you've really nailed your brief there! Love the scheme, appreciate the education on oldhammer influences and for simple kitbash inspiration. I always love these lore friendly but off the mainstream schemes like the Badab stuff last year. Going to have to paint my token Kasarkin model to match.
Excellent video once more. I think Henry, your videos arent only great at showing painting techniques, but also you tend to open great topics of conversation around the hobby. I am in a point in my hobby journey where every project I start (Red Scorpions Badab, 30k Emp Children and Ultramarines are the last 3) I have loads of fun down the rabbit hole of converting and going through sprues and bits. Then, I am also pushing my painting level with new techniques, utilization of the airbrush , etc. So I am torn between what to pursue more. More converting and modelling? more painting? difficult to say but it is all good and fun hobby.
They look great! It's such a good paint scheme and you've got me intrigued for the next video with further details on your lightbulb moment. Keep up the great work!
Lovely work Henry. A little tip if I may be so bold: you got quite a lot of coffee from the contrast paint and the reason is that you diluted it with water. Rather you should use the contrast medium. At least that’s my experience: water makes contrast break apart.
@cult of paint If you want transfers for the spider symbol, could you possibly use Van Saar transfers? If you want to expand the project at all... I would love to see a Bording party or a small army in this scheme.
I have a Tau, Space marine (White Scar) and might start a small Alaitoc group, but painting Guard is always my high point. Love adding equipment or trinkets to them, to make them your own
That OG artworkn really evokes far more feeling than the modern IG stuff in my opinion, then again it does trigger the nostalgia in me. I remember seeing the Guard Epic boxes having this on the cover if IIRC.Different times.
They look amazing! I have about 20 models from the real oldhammer Imperial Guard at home, unfortunately I don't have enough lasguns, maybe I can cast some with Bluestuff and Greenstuff or Milliput. They are still not painted, as I am not sure which colour scheme I should use? I thought about the Necromundan 8th, but those stripes daunting me a bit. I only once painted camo patterns and that was on 10mm models, so not really a comparison.
Lovely scheme! I love IG the most because i feel they have so much character and life too them compared to SM. I only paint Imperial Guards (for now at least)! Mostly kriegs but i have a bunch of different ones
Far as I know there is only 1 confirmed image of a Necromundan 8th Soldier, and that's the one done to accompany their lore blurb for the 13th Black Crusade. There are a few Necromundan Guardsmen in a Kal Jerrico Comic 'Above and Beyond' though I don't think their regiment is mentioned and finally the helmet on that spiders model matches a old 2nd edition image of 3 Guardsmen moving though a snow/Ash waste by Jes Goodwin which has been speculated to be Necromundan 8th Guardsmen since the lead 'Pax' trooper has a Necroumandan pattern las New Cadians are a pretty good match for the Kal Jerico and 13th Black Crusade depictions and these are a really nice interpretation of the Spiders 🕷 Quick note on the coloured panels, they are company and platoon, the number is squad within platoon so red/yellow 3 would be Red company, Yellow Platoon (I think), 3rd squad , but that's incredibly old, I only know it from a freinds copy of 1st Ed rules I flicked through
So after painting the camo, what color was used to black out the armor before applying the Ratling Grime and Corvus Black? I thought I'd missed something between 6:57 and 7:36.
I'm trying to build the Demo seen in the final turntable. I've got the proper Cadian and Krieg bits, but I'm guessing you used green stuff to fill in the gap between the Krieg arms and the Cadian torso?
Really stellar work! I've been thinking about trying to convert Cadians for killteam as well, and I'd love to make a team that looks half as good as this one! Does the command squad come with the bolter, or is that from an older kit?
Amazing job but that's not a surprise ! Lovely poses, but if I want to do the same what I actually need ? ( the guys on the knees are from the heavy weapon kit right ?
Damn! So good! Can you do a tutorial for normal standard green and beige boxart Cadians too? I am really struggling to find a recipe that don’t took ages to paint…. 😢
great video Henry, is there a way you could do a tutorial for flayed skin or rotten skin at some point, patreon or YT idc :D I really want to see how you would do it.. cheers
Hi Henry. May I ask which lamp you use for your painting? I'm on the hunt for something much better than my current desk lamp as the minis look well lit for painting and photography.
Hi Swanny, we use a few, but generally they are task lamps by Daylight Company. We have literally just been sent the new Redgrass Games lamp though and I'm so far very happy with it. Something I'll talk about in a video on once I've used it a bit more.
Thank you very much for posting this. I hope you don’t mind if I steal it I mean use it. We’re making an imperial guard army and a genestealer cult kill team with it .
I think I’d only say I’d prefer if UA-camrs stuck to one brand of paint. As beginners, we often copy models we love and it’s difficult when the “Teacher” bounces across 4 brands. Other than that I do love this. ❤

That’s great to hear!
Very true!
Love the classic paint scheme! This is how the guard looked when I first discovered games workshop as a kid.
I reckon an army like this would still look good you know.
In those days I do believe Guard could have Rhinos!
Current Kill Team has brought me back to this video, and it's just so good. You've perfectly emulated that classic scheme, and it just gives me the perfect hobby nostalgia. And the addition of Necromunda bases is simply chef's kiss! So well done!

So much fun.

Thankyou Sean, glad you enjoy them.

It’s a blast from the past … inspiration from older books is exactly why I have way way too many books .very well done .
Absolutely love your Mephiston Blue on the spider legs 🤣
Too late Gaz, Ben’s already ripped me on that.
Henry you're really stepping up your painting game, so much fun to see how you progress. Thanks for the upload
Thanks Dawid, it’s always nice discovering new things.
That tiger stripe came out very nicely!
Great to see another throwback to early artwork scheme brought to life. I have been considering the Necromunda 8th for a while, and you sir may just be the inspiration I needed. Thank you.
Good luck with yours!
Excellent work, it's nice to see an old unit's markings and colors from the early days of 40k on new figures!
Really liked this video, thank you. Pleased to see the old Spiders March again too ☺ A very interesting (and simple) paint job of those tiger stripes, rather inspiring 👍
Fantastic work! The nostalgia really drives me in my painting. The re-imagining of classic schemes on modern minis is always great to see.
It’s certainly becoming more and more of an inspiration for projects.
That is the coolest kill team I've seen so far. I was on the fence about these DKoK but now I have to get them.
Do it!
I really like the bandaged guy with the binoculars. Just radiates “Bring me to my men”.
I have LOVED this original artwork and scheme since I was a kid. Thanks for this as now attempting the same scheme for my Guard. Thanks 🙏
Think you've really nailed your brief there! Love the scheme, appreciate the education on oldhammer influences and for simple kitbash inspiration. I always love these lore friendly but off the mainstream schemes like the Badab stuff last year.
Going to have to paint my token Kasarkin model to match.
Mmm more Badab…
You deserve way more subs because these videos help make us better painters, unlike some of those flashy competitors
We’re grinding out those subs!
I want to do a whole guard army in this scheme!! Amazing work as always!!
I really like the effect you got, if i ran into them on the table I'd think Necromundan instantly
Great to hear genuine hobby love
Excellent video once more. I think Henry, your videos arent only great at showing painting techniques, but also you tend to open great topics of conversation around the hobby.

Thanks. Great choice of projects!
inspiring, truly. Would be cool to see these guys expanded on
It is tempting.
Mephiston blue. Bit of a slip there Henry
Or unreleased paint?……
these are so incredibly cool. thank you for sharing.
Nothing new for me... 100% standard... Just fantastic work as usual on your channel ;) (I love the look you achieved there. Brilliant!)
I'm glad you tackled this one, my friend.
They look great! It's such a good paint scheme and you've got me intrigued for the next video with further details on your lightbulb moment. Keep up the great work!
Insane.
Once again, thanks a ton for sharing.
Lovely work Henry. A little tip if I may be so bold: you got quite a lot of coffee from the contrast paint and the reason is that you diluted it with water. Rather you should use the contrast medium. At least that’s my experience: water makes contrast break apart.
Thanks Bjørn I’ll bear that in mind.
@cult of paint If you want transfers for the spider symbol, could you possibly use Van Saar transfers? If you want to expand the project at all...
I would love to see a Bording party or a small army in this scheme.
Thanks Chris I’ll take a look.
I have a Tau, Space marine (White Scar) and might start a small Alaitoc group, but painting Guard is always my high point. Love adding equipment or trinkets to them, to make them your own
Good job what with that username!
Henry is steady killing it. Never painted guard before but I ordered a command squad to mess around with. Going to have a go at this camo.
The command squad kit is brilliant.
The only paint scheme Ive seen so far that I actually like the kneepads! :)
I’m definitely gonna take some pieces from this to paint my guard. Especially the fatigues
Top work, man. You're making me want to whip up my own Cadian kill team
absolutely fantastic! makes me want to try this scheme with my cadia stands box
These are effing great! I love 'em!
These look amazing! I'm just getting into Necromunda with my friends and I am shamelessly going to copy some of this, thank you for sharing this!
Do it!
Outstanding paint job!
Wonderful video! Loved it!
Cheers Robin
That OG artworkn really evokes far more feeling than the modern IG stuff in my opinion, then again it does trigger the nostalgia in me. I remember seeing the Guard Epic boxes having this on the cover if IIRC.Different times.
It’s very very different isn’t it. I get a lot of the same vibes from Necromunda now.
As always, absolutely incredible work 💯🙌🏼
Imagine an army of these. Sick sheme!
I have been. Often.
Sweeeet idea man love the old school schemes!
I've been looking for exactly this camo scheme
They look amazing! I have about 20 models from the real oldhammer Imperial Guard at home, unfortunately I don't have enough lasguns, maybe I can cast some with Bluestuff and Greenstuff or Milliput. They are still not painted, as I am not sure which colour scheme I should use? I thought about the Necromundan 8th, but those stripes daunting me a bit. Plenty of the old guard minis knocking around.
amazing as always! Hope to see some regular cadians in grimdark style, I'm sure they would be the ultimate scheme for them!
We’ll have Bens cadians here soon
Lovely scheme! I love IG the most because i feel they have so much character and life too them compared to SM. I only paint Imperial Guards (for now at least)! Mostly kriegs but i have a bunch of different ones
I really like this, looks brilliant
Thanks Byron
Awesome work, they look fantastic!
these are just wonderful
These look great!
Thanks Julian
damn really nice job henry, i really enjoyed this one and im not even a guard fan cheers guys
You are now, join the club!
They look great, it would be intresting to see a Necromunda gang from you, not just the Escher cutters a full gang.
I do necro stuff over on Patreon. There's a few projects there including the gang, beastmaster and Palanite vehicle.
Far as I know there is only 1 confirmed image of a Necromundan 8th Soldier, and that's the one done to accompany their lore blurb for the 13th Black Crusade. New Cadians are a pretty good match for the Kal Jerico and 13th Black Crusade depictions and these are a really nice interpretation of the Spiders 🕷

I use model colour black. But whatever your preferred one is will do.
Very cool! 👍🏻
Awesome! 👍🏻
Henry, try 1:1:1 nuln, agrax and floor polish. I call it Magic Wash.
16:23 Love me some Mephiston Blue
Join the queue
This is awesome :D where did you get the sergeant's bolt gun from?
The new Castellan kit.
I'm trying to build the Demo seen in the final turntable. I've got the proper Cadian and Krieg bits, but I'm guessing you used green stuff to fill in the gap between the Krieg arms and the Cadian torso?
No greenstuff. I don't remember the gap being anything significant, so probably just used plastic glue to melt.
@@cultofpaint Alright, thanks! Awesome scheme, by the way!
Really stellar work! I've been thinking about trying to convert Cadians for killteam as well, and I'd love to make a team that looks half as good as this one! Does the command squad come with the bolter, or is that from an older kit?
The bolter is off the new Castellan model. It has a bunch of options so you can still build it fully afterwards even if you pinch the bolter.
Nice one! Where can I get that bolter arm tho? 😁
that HQ mini that came out the same time as these, castellan?
Hi, great vid. What GW paints would you substitute in?
Amazing work! What colour have you used for the base rims? Looks great
Just Vallejo black
Amazing job but that's not a surprise ! Lovely poses, but if I want to do the same what I actually need ? ( the guys on the knees are from the heavy weapon kit right ?
Possibly. I had all the kits from the cadianstands box, plus heavy weapons squad and castellan.
I probably missed it, but what black did you use as the basecoat for the armour? I'm going to have a crack at this scheme soon...
Damn! So good!
Can you do a tutorial for normal standard green and beige boxart Cadians too? I am really struggling to find a recipe that don’t took ages to paint…. 😢
We’ll have a green scheme tutorial out pretty soon.
@@cultofpaint thank you 😍
Holy shit I love this
im curious about the sgt with bolter, and the bits you used?
Bolter is from the new castellan mini.
Ace job
I'll get a Platoon of these, and they will be kicking into the Necromunda 8th.
So tempting
great video Henry, is there a way you could do a tutorial for flayed skin or rotten skin at some point, patreon or YT idc :D
I really want to see how you would do it..
cheers
Sure thing. Will keep an eye out for a suitable mini. There’s a zombie flesh one I did a few years ago.
@@cultofpaint excellent thank you, I'll check them out
What color would you paint a shoulder lamp for a mini with this scheme?
Old brass
What kit is that example spider model you show at the begining?
Necromunda character from forgworld
Thank you very much for posting this. I hope you don’t mind if I steal it I mean use it.
We’re making an imperial guard army and a genestealer cult kill team with it .
@@darkzentai7417 please use it!! And tag us in the finished job on socials if you use them.
sweet non standard paint job.
So it looks like GW partially copied this scheme for their new GSC VetGuard team, the Brood Brothers.
I think I’d only say I’d prefer if UA-camrs stuck to one brand of paint. As beginners, we often copy models we love and it’s difficult when the “Teacher” bounces across 4 brands.
Other than that I do love this. ❤
There is too much already red paint in diffrent armies.
