The additions and changes with the finalized schemes are so so good imo, the final side by side really makes it all feel extremely worth it. Honestly I'm gonna steel the red recipe because it is truly gorgeous
holy moly wish I could see them in person. I really hated these models when they came out but now I'm contemplating replicating your scheme/recipe. really knocked it out the park!
27:07 I agree, I like the left one more too. Really appreciate how the base has a low contrast with the mini and makes it look a lot more natural (which is a thing I really like about Heresy).
Interesting how the 70 worked better for you, I've learned my motivation works better on batches of 5-10 better since there is more tangible progress. Glad it worked for you!
god job. completely relate agree with the end comments about nearly reaching the end of a model or unit and feeling almost burned out or unconvinced by it, glad you stuck with it and got to the end
Thanks Harry. I am finishing my SoH 6000k project, which I was working on for almost 2 years, and Cthonian Headhunters are next. That video was exacly what I've needed.
OMG at the beginning that tank was amazing I loved the body, the exhaust rust and carbon and those lights are the best I've seen on UA-cam! You paint easy I dont know how you've managed to keep on going from one figure to another the colours looked cool and traitors of the Horus Heresy then put together they looked amazing awesome and educational video!
Excellent bits in here thanks for sharing your process and reflections on it. Doing batches where it makes sense to do, then focusing down to troops for the details, and completing a model to finish when needing a boost all good things to keep in mind for army painting!
That side by side comparison at the end really showed off how much you've improved the scheme, excited to see how you tackle the vehicles. Looking forwards to trying to translate this onto my legions imperials guys.
@@cultofpaint Not sure yet, I'm the type of person that builds all the models first then paints lol, I do like the arkadians scheme, though I also might just go for my own cohort design I'm kinda partial to orange. Got plenty of time to think about it though as I assemble all this stuff (and I kinda did the opposite and added literally every pouch on the kit on so we'll see how it works out, though the Auxilia have been the #1 army I've wanted in all of GW's ranges so I'm pretty motivated)
Really enjoy the changes you made to the mini. Great to see the comparison between the old recipe and the new. The old is great as well but the new one pops a lot more. Also really like the new basing scheme. Looks great!
"no more failed projects... If I start it I'll finish it..." How many times haven't I said that... 😅 I enjoy your videos, and I have recently started airbrushing again, with your H&S Infinity brush. That nifty little shape of the trigger actually makes quite a big difference for me, with the traditional 'flat' topped trigger my fingers can start cramping, but the "Cult of Paint" trigger is great.
stellar video and paintjob as usual. those changes really did make a big difference and i think it'll make even more of a difference on the tabletop. are you going to paint up some of the new incoming plastic mechanicum? i'd looooooooove to see a thanatar in your style, or anything cybernetica really
Man resisting sons of Horus with an allied detachment of these is so difficult. I worry sons of Horus are too similar to world eaters project wise though, but the scheme is so nice
These look absolutely fantastic, would be a joy to see these on the tabletop. I was wondering if the Blood Angels army that you guys had on show at the MPO Bristol uses this same red recipe? Many thanks, love this channel.
Thanks, it doesn't, it's much simpler. follow Rich's instagram @armyoftestmodels and he shows the process. I'm pretty sure its just silver with tamiya clear red over it.
I completely LOVE how they turned out, especially with the addition of the tank and the guy on top. by the way, are we going to see more of the black templars? I'm painting mine and I'd love to see some sword brethren, helbrecht and characters...thank you!
Such a really kick ass paint scheme! I remember seeing a similar Red/Black scheme for SA and loving it, unfortunately I already committed to Red/Black for my Tau... which only afterwards did it also occur to me everyone is going to assume I'm some sort of Farsight Enclave fanboy :') Eventually I went with a fun Green/Grey sort of colour scheme with some nice Blue/Yellow heraldry. All that waffle said, golly if it isnt a bit painstaking to do SA. They feel mucn more detailed compared to the big, broad, flat armour plates of my Tau 😂 Good on you for slaying the grey!
They look amazing! Which paints would you use for the classic grey tank scheme for solar? Doing manachean bulls from your tutorial, can't decide on blue tanks or grey with blue accents.
Cat litter is a lot easier than crushing up rocks (not the paper based stuff obviously) it's been my "rubble" go to for years. I was trying to remember when I last bought a bag, got to be at least 15yrs if not more
Absolute beautiful thanks for this. One quick question - would it be too different using contrast paints + lahmian medium instead the tamiya clear red?
Ok, I promise this is the final question: won't the all-over oil wash of bitume re-activate and remove the dark rust oil wash on the black armor? Or is there a varnishing step somewhere in-between?
Have you got an event in mind for the army to be completed by? I’m trying to get 3k of marines ready for September Greetings The updated scheme is primo. Those couple of metallics and red popping make the difference.
Honestly we need more videos like this, seeing passion projects come to life is what warhammer is all about.

I want to say thanks, I about to hit up my Solar Auxilia army as well. this help me really get an idea of how to approach it.
best of luck!

Those look great. I look forward to hopefully seeing your take on this scheme for Legions Imperialis. Sardukaur vibes!
Thanks David, yeah i was thinking similar as i was painting them.
Great looking project, and its always interesting to hear your thought process.
Seventy guys? My man! You are really something! Is there something which can break your will?
Keep this good work!

What a wicked looking outcome. Love all the tips you give and making everything you do possible for everyone to follow along too.
Cheers Craig, thanks for watching
Perfect timing for the box art scheme GSC in Killteam
That is a great colour scheme, thankx for sharing
Bruh when you brought out the pestol and mortar I knew you meant business
absolutely loving watching this come together as I work on my own Aux

Really magnificent work Henry!
Thanks Sasha!
Tamiya clear is brilliant for the eyes /lenses and they do many different colours .
Totally dig the red! Reminds me on the midhammer Word Bearers from the 4th edition codex
Amazing like always
The oil washes look great.
Amazing work as always Henry, you keep me motivated. Really love how this red came out.
loved this series lots of fun to watch, one day I will do solar
@Henry- you need to get a surgical clamp (off a well known auction site) for controlled sponging. It makes life so much easier 🥳
Looking good 😊
i use reverse grip tweezer often. In this case being able to point the sponge where i wanted it to go was easier.
@@cultofpaint I prefer surgical clamps over reverse grip tweezers. The tip has a good mix of small size and very strong hold.
Very nice, inspiring paint job, thank you. Plastic Arvis Lighter... PLEEEEASE!!
if only!

Thanks! I'd definitely like to paint some of the automata, the Thallax in particular have long been one of my favourite minis in heresy.
gorgeous
Gosh these look glorious!
Wow well done, they look amazing. You've got me thinking... Can I do 70 Kriegers? Maybe I can...
absolutely. I think Krieg would be simpler than these. One of things that really slowed these down was the large areas of metal stuff.
Wonderful work Mate!
Thanks a lot!
Another great video, thanks again
Thanks
Would love to see the vehicles in the headhunters scheme.

There are just so many good greys. But if I was doing it for the manachean id probably base it around eshin and mechanicum standard.
looked away at my phone, looked back and a mortar and pestle had appeared. i was very confused!

My question is. Do you think this colour scheme would work for Krieg. Only thing want to try is painting the skull on the gas mask. I think looks fab.
Yeah I reckon so
Was Mr. Ben in that group picture at the beginning of the video?
He was indeed! We let him out the paint mines for the weekend.

@@NickRozanov-f7t it's fine, so long as some time is left between the two. You aren't flooding the surface and then harshly manipulating the paint.
What brushes are you using when painting the highlights? Great work
AO Series S sizes 3 & 1. then a 00 for something like the lenses
Did you glue Pennie’s to your corks? I did that cause they were too top heavy! 😅
Yep!
Sorry about all the questions, but cant figure out one thing: what colour are you using for the eyes before applying the tamiya clear?
@@NickRozanov-f7t bright silver. I think it was VMA steel on this vid, but it doesn't matter so long as it's super bright and shiny

I'm currently batch painting 30 Termagaunts and your 70 Solar put me to shame!
big swarms of gaunts look so good
What color did you use to basecoat the black boots, gloves and armor panels?
@@NickRozanov-f7t black. Probably Vallejo model colour.
@@cultofpaint Thank you for your quick reply. Matt or gloss black, or doesn't matter since you varnish it anyway?
Does anyone know a substitute for decayed metal? Normally it's my go-to but it's been out of stock for months. Anything from Pro-Acryl?
In this instance I reckon mixong in a little brown contrast paint to the runlelord would have achieved very similar results.
