  • I really enjoyed reviewing these shoes. Let me know what you think, Did I get it right!?
    *Note: Lots of these model now have newer versions. Which does mean that these versions are older and are often on a sale now. It's easy to save some $$ by just getting last year's model. They are great shoes! Sometimes BETTER than the new one!

    Great review! I have the Novablast 3 and I love them. I tried a few shoes, such as the Nike Pegasus, Rincon 3, Adidas Boston 10, and Clifton. None of them compare to how the Novablast feels to me. It would be great if you could do a list of recovery and max cushioning shoes.

    This is a great video, and much needed in these times with all of the brands and selections available to runners, it can be overwhelming and confusing to sift through all of the choices. Back in the day we had maybe half a dozen brands, Adidas, Nike were the most popular. Best training shoes I had were the Adidas SL-72's, our coach gave everyone on the team a free pair. There was the Nike Waffle trainer and then later Adidas came out with the Adidas TRX, I ran my marathons in those as well as some road runs and track races. Off the shelf inserts weren't available, you could try and make your own or pay a podiatrist $$$ for custom-made inserts. Good luck in your upcoming marathon.

    Agree 100%! NB 2 is the best shoe I've ever run in, onto my 5th pair and desperatly trying to find more. The NB 3 is growing on me but radically different, wider so a poorer lockdown and less supportive, foam is almost to soft.

    Nice review. I started with a pair of Ghost 15 and put a lot of miles on them (about 800 running and 200 walking). They still look and feel pretty good, so I bought another pair. However, I wanted to get a pair of shoes with a Black Friday discount and I was able to find a pair of Novablasts 3’s for about $90 (they are coming in the mail). Now, the other day I was at Dicks sporting goods and they had a pair of Brooks Glycerin’s for about $90. I could not pass up this deal. I absolutely love the feel of these shoes. I am looking forward to getting my Novablasts.

    I also have Novablast 2 and Clifton 8. My Clifton 8 doesn't feel as soft as I hoped. Have about 150k on it. Have about 400k on my Novablast 2. Agree with most of what you say about it, except traction. It gets slippery on wet leaves and grass in my experience. I heard the outsole of Novablast 3 is worse, so I'm eyeing the TR version. Hope my favorite colorway will still be available in my size during holiday sales.
    BTW, in weather forecast, there are "temperature" and "'feel like' temperature". I feel this idea applies to shoe weight too. Some shoes may be heavier on spec sheet, but actually feel lighter on foot and in motion.

    I had those Novablast 2 and I felt so quick in them. Strava actually supported that as well. I had to retire them though because of knee pain I was getting. Only put 175mi on them. About half of what I typically get out of my Saucony and Brooks.

    The original Novablast is still my favorite. Novablast 3 is good, but switching to the FF Blast+ did change the responsiveness. The NB2 and NB3 are still in my rotation, however they are more designated for long runs.

Do you have any recommendations for an alternate shoe?

    • @mottesen_runs

      I think I would like to have a nice ultra cushioned shoe for other days. Something that isn’t necessarily fast, but nice for slow recovery runs. I think the New Balance 1080 or a Hoka Clifton would do that nicely.

    Love the breakdown, but I would maybe put 5-10 more points into the fit/upper. If a shoe is crazy comfortable on the midsole and has a great ride, but the heal counter gives me blisters (triumph 20 cough cough), or the upper doesn't hold my foot well, it makes it hard to run in or enjoy that midsole. But still, best method of reviewing shoes I've seen, PLEASE DO MORE

    • @mottesen_runs
      @mottesen_runs  8 місяців тому +1

      I could definitely see that. I have had bad experiences with uppers as well, and it could make sense to punish a shoe more if it doesn't do it's job well. It definitely CAN ruin a shoe. and a good upper deserves some praise

    @rendy5092 8 місяців тому

    The traction on the novablast is not good, I have the 3 and love the shoe. The foam is good, the upper is very good as well but the traction is ass, I can feel it lacking grip in wet weather on different kinds of hard grounds. In dry weather is fine and in wet weather it is fine as an easy trainer but I wouldn't wanna go fast and cut corners in these when it's raining..

      If you're trying to save money, can't go wrong with the 3, it's a really fun shoe. But I do think the 2 has a bit more cushion and is a little faster. It also has a lot of life. I've had 4 pairs of the 2, all have over 500 miles and are still OK. Can't speak to the durability of the 3, I only have a little over 100 miles on them. If it were me, I'd go with the 2.

Asics come out in top , new balance bottom out to easily, Adidas are ok but overpriced and not as durable than others. But novablast ones are great , I have a pair with 1200 miles on them and they are still fine ( no s**t) , but I will agree with you the novablast 2 are best all round , mine are coming up to 500 miles and look good for at least another 300 .
