Denise, this brought back so many fond memories. I always hated when we would have to hang clothes out to dry when I was growing up, but watching your video, I'm remembering about the fresh clean smell they would have when we bought them in to fold. Great memories!

Sister Cousins Lifestyle Hi Sandy, you know when you’re young you don’t appreciate stuff but I actually enjoy hanging out sheets, tee shirts, and a few other things. I don’t hang undies...too private for that. I love the clean smell of laundry fresh off the line. I’m glad I caused a few pleasant memories.

I grew up in the 70s and we were very poor. My mom didn't have a dryer, only a washer. She hung clothes on the line, even in winter when possible. I remember laughing in amazement because our pants would be so stiff from the cold that they literally stood up. The worst times, though, were when she had to hang them up over chairs in front of the wood stove or by the electric baseboard heaters. The next day, getting ready for school, the seams and the waistband would still be damp and I'd have to put those pants on. Dear Lord! I was so ill tempered by the time I got to school!!! I hated those wet seams. I love my mom and dad for all they endured for us. Gosh, times were hard, but we always loved each other. I would not want to relive those days. But I sure admire my mom and dad.

This took me back when growing up helping my mom gather in the clothes. Yes I'm that old. Mom washed the clothes in a wringer washer.

Terry Russell Every day Guy terry, now that you say that, we had a wringer washer when I was little. I had forgotten all about it. And...I knew a girl who got her arm caught in a wringer washer and lost it up to her elbow. I forgot all about that! That wringer washer...hmmm...did it sit outside on the porch? That Part is fuzzy.

Loved this video! I used to hang out all the family's clothes during the spring, summer, and fall. I even did cloth diapers and they never seemed cleaner as when I hung them out in the sunshine! We don't have a clothesline now, but I do use a fold up clothes rack similar to the one you showed. There's nothing better than the smell of clean sheets, dried outside!!

I'm a new subscriber. Mary's Nest recommended your channel. I remember hanging clothes on a line when I was young. We're not allowed to have anything outside except for a small storage shed in the back. Plus even if we could the ground here smells like dog poop since the neighbors just let their dogs roam out alone and don't clean up after them. Also it rains every season here and can be windy. Our yard is often saturated with water. I don't have much laundry as Lee just has me wash his once in awhile. I do mine and our older and autistic son Daniel once per week. Our younger son Thomas died of SIDS seven weeks after his birth. He would have been nine years old on September 30 if he was still alive. I miss him so much. Daniel is a daddy's boy and Thomas was mine. I was ridiculously happy for the first time while he was alive and I've been primarily numb for the first time since he died. Daniel makes me miss him more and he looked exactly like Lee so I'll never get over losing him.

    Hey Denise
I randomly found your videos and found your information so good and informative. I am a Brit who has lived in New York, Seattle and now Los Angeles. We have a culture where tumble dryers are not part of daily life in the UK so when I moved to the states I was like the only person who was line drying or using a clothes rack. My great aunt is 99 and she always hangs her clothes in Beverly Hills and the looks she gets from the neighbours is amazing 🤣😂
    Thanks for making the video

You have a beautiful yard! Some people really need to know this stuff, I cant imagine not hanging out the clothes I just miss the rotary hoist in the biggest size where the grass grew so nicely beneath it. Now we have one on the wall outside that I dont like so much. Its often so hot, I like to put it all mostly on plastic coat hangers then run outside and zip zip zip hang them up in two seconds and run back inside. It helps. Once I had a lovely laundry trolley to wheel everything outside. Now I dont.
One tip I made work for me was having some line threaded through about 3 pool noodles about1.4 mtrs per noodle so I dry my curtains over them and it wont crease any lines on my curtain as they dry.

So often, I see comments about how much people like the smell of sheets dried outdoors. I do, too....but I also like the smell of ALL laundry dried outdoors. I love to pull a shirt over my head & take in the scent . It's wonderful.
I used to be a big fan of fabric softener but I've changed. Now I fill my fabric softener dispenser w/plain ol' white vinegar. I found out fabric softener leaves a residue.
I LOVE hanging laundry outdoors & do as long as the weather is warm enough.....cold weather just means I hang it indoors. I don't even own a clothes dryer. Line drying laundry makes fabric last over twice as long ! Dryers are tough on fabric...all the lint in the lint catcher isn't just surface lint !
By the way, I noticed the birds when you were hanging laundry....isn't that delightful ?
Oh...also, when laundry is dried in a dryer , it needs removed as soon as the dryer stops or everything will be a wrinkled mess. Not so w/laundry hanging on lines ! You can take your time going out to take it down.

Hey sis, it is really important to understand what makes our fibers stiff when washed. Everyday laundry soaps have a TON of fillers. These fillers leave a film on your fibers. Think of it as your clothes gaining weight. You wear, and leave body oils and world dirt etc., and then wash with non eco detergent and thereby add another layer film.
If you can find a good detergent that has no fillers, you need no fab softener at all. Your cotton clothes smell like cotton. Stains dont set because they are not covered in said filters s over and over and over.
Worth your research. Most eco friendly are more than worthy or the preppers time and money.

Another tip for parents with potty training kids. If they wet the bed make sure when you wash the pee things you put some vinegar in the washer because it will take the pee smell right out of the clothes and don't worry the vinegar smell will disappear by the time the drying is done.

Just a little hint about hanging clothes outside. If your baby soiled out of its diaper don't throw the clothes away. All you have to do is wash them then hang them out on the line making sure the soiled spots are in the sun and the sun will make the soiled spots disappear.
