🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we are installing the irrigation tubes and lines for our Birdies Beds raised bed garden. We are using a combination of black poly pipe, drip tape, and inline mini drip emitter tubing. We show the challenges of irrigation setup and design. We also reuse as much as we can while taking the hassle out of watering our garden. Let's go!

You don’t give up and didn’t hear a single swear word. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again YOU GUYS ROCK 😊
I agree. They have finesse.
Great video!! Thanks for sharing how you installed drip irrigation in your garden, even showing your mistakes. It makes for a great video..I really enjoy the bloopers at the end..
Enjoy the garden.
Jesus is coming back to take His people home. Come Lord Jesus come. 🙏☝️👍❤️❤️
Sam all I do at the end of the pipe is cut a inch or a inch and a half off then fold it 2 times and slid the 1” or 1 1/2” I’ve the fold and bing go bam bo.
You both handled those mistakes like true farmers. No tears just change it up. Can't wait for the first picking of whatever. Thanks for sharing all this with us. Hi boys.
Lol… farmers cry too ya know. :)
Garden looks nice! We are now harvesting our yellow squash, tomatoes and okra! Hope your drip system works out. Love the bloopers!😄
Love💖 you guys....... aww.... purring kitty
Finally, huh? Take care and be blessed.😊
I added my compost that I started two years ago. What beautiful black compost I have.
Been down this road twice. Finally said to heck with and ripped it all out and went back to watering by hand. It's very therapeutic anyways😏
About 3 years ago I went with the DIG system. I ran the 1/2 tubing into all of my beds and plugged the 1/4 emitters into the 1/2 tubing and terminated them. I created 3 zones for my beds and one for my fruit trees and hooked up a four port timer (I am guessing this is what you are doing in your next video). I have not watered my garden in 3 years. Last year I ran the same thing to all of my wife's flowers and we have not had to water them either. We just fertilize and watch them grow :)
Well it took some time, but you finally got it going. Awesome job🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
I want to do that too but I haven’t convinced myself that I can.
Pretty cool 😎 you now have some very happy happy plants good job 👍 💪🏻👊🏻
My thoughts exactly 😂 I’ve been blah for 2 weeks, just needed to see you guys!!! Love ❤️ ya
I'm cheap, LOL , but I want to see the water amounts that go in my garden. So I just set up a main line that I don't have to move to mow and put overhead sprinklers up in different sections at a time. The plants that like lots of water I group together and the ones who like a little water in another area. I can keep better tabs on the water and don't have to worry about clogged emitters and expensive parts.
I am not a gardener but can I ask. Are you able to turn off each bed so those that need more water can while not over watering the others. Or are they one on all on.
We can add in valves quite easily. There are ones for the large black pipe and the small tubing.
Y’all make the best videos
Yall have patient of Job yall place is looking very beautiful I just love your channel Yall so funny to hugs and prayers oh yea Elijah is getting so handsome and Isaac is too I just love there smiles I have fifteen grandsons and only two granddaughters that’s between the both of us we are so blessed to ❤
I have used drip tape and pipe over the years and they both work well. I know that you have already changed everything out and spent the money but you could have kept the drip tape and just go in every 6 inches and put a hole. It can be done. Anyway things look good and enjoy you guys
Hi Sam and Angela, will the raised beds always have seedlings/plants? The reason for the question I saw was that you did not put a faucet at the entrance to each bed to allow the faucet to be closed when the bed is empty.
I love your videos! They’re so educational! I always learn so much with each one. Gardening is like life-trial & error. God Bless you all.
Very interesting Thank you God bless.
Love watching your channel and very happy to see your brothers channel is back!!
I'm glad you got it all to work....hugs
Awesome Job even if it required extra work & some different things. Good job!! LOVE THE KITTY!!
I feel you pain with the drip system. I’m constantly tweaking mine. I was working on mine all last weekend and I still have some changes I want to do…it never ends 😂
I'm looking forward to how the raised beds produce this year! Good luck!
Plants like the irrigation better early in the morning or over night, It's not good for the plants to water in direct sunlight
Thanks for the tip!
If you are using drip tape you can buy additional emitters and place them in the pipe where you want them
Now that you have the raised beds done, what about your fruit trees?
Learned alot, thanks for doing the legwork for us and showing the different types of systems.
Fun projects! Love the raised beds! Loved that purrrrrrring machine kitty. What is its name? ❤❤❤
He is named Dash. He’s always inspecting our work!
@@sam-and-angela lol! We have an inspector too! She's 14 years old and has inspected every piece of furniture i've built or repaired!! She's a tough inspector!😂 So much so, Spike is her name! 🤣🤣
@@sam-and-angela 😻
Love the set up.
Sure beats watering by hand. We're managing right now, but we've definitely got to get a trench and water spigot put up by the garden. Then we can install the drip irrigation we bought. Gotta get the rest of the plants in first lol
Angela got new glasses ! I love them ! God bless you all !
Great Job guys!!!😇
👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ put you a timer on your faucet......the kitty interview was priceless😽😽😽😽😽😽
You guys have patience that's for sure. I tried soaker hoses on ground years ago, This should make watering all those raised beds alot easier. Nice to see the detail of assembly. Nice cat!
Great job
Sam the camera his face and the hat epic lol
Great job my friends. Love all your videos! Rarely post because I'm usually watching on TV, but not this time. Wishing you a wonderful summer with lots of garden veggies and flowers of course.
Thank you!
Not to Kibitz, but Please talk about Back Flow Preventers and explain why you did not need one in this situation. Thanks from South Carolina
This is the second time i've saw this in comments and never heard of it. I'm curious🤔
My goodness, you poor guys had a lot of issues to clear up for this project!
Glad I seen this one for sure Kim gonna try this. Thank you. I love watching you all
Water problem solved.
You make it look so easy.
Love your channel.
Lol! I so enjoy the bloopers!! And learn so much from all y'all's videos!! Thanks for sharing! Have a happy and blessed weekend!💖🤗💖
Beware of mineral buildup on your watering system with the small water lines. I delt with that in Texas years ago and went with larger lines to correct the problem.
Thanks for the heads up!
Cleverly done....I'm learning.....
Looking good guys What zone are you in I’m in 9b in the Central Valley foothills in California
So glad for you to finish! Great job! Thank for sharing! Congratulations on the 100k
May the Lord bless and protect you and your family
Can't you just put more holes in drip tubing?
I really need to get a system set up for my garden.
Gardens looks so good...
The plants will thank you, later..Summer I hear is going to be hotter than usual...
And your harvest will bountiful.. Adore the BLOOPERS..😉😂🤣.🍅🥔🥕🥒♥️🥀
Your outtakes give us just a little taste of how much work goes into making a video to entertain and inform your subs. Thanks Guys!! You are appreciated!
I totally understood the Purr Talking at the end of the video. It's been dry here too. God bless the gardeners of the world.
Love this video. Some great ideas. Thanks.
Good tips
Found you’s by chance .
You’s are an awesome love the positivity . How you do not give up or let something get you down . Your husband is amazing can see he has a heart of gold ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was expecting to see a drill bit going into the side of the “in-line” fittings. 😮
Love that you show trial and error for us. That’s my life. 😊
I really like the human factor of your outtakes.
The only thing I would have done differently would be to bury those lines on the ground, even just a couple of inches. I would trip on every one of them
Have you thought about having some extra water stored that would gravity water your beds in case of a power failure? And possibly a way to have gravity fed emergency water for your home needs too? Maybe you could build a little water tower by both the house and the garden.
That was a great instructional video of what not to do and what actually does works best. Thank you!
Nice.. work and yeap its a sort of is easy and also hard to setup the drip but the veggies will love it.
We have our garden line setup with some pots and raised beds all setup a zone so that the BHive sprinkler takes care of that
Great video👍🙋♀️🌻🙏
👍❤️🇺🇸
I thought that hay rake was the ice cream man. I almost ran out to get a nutty buddy.
Our water is so hard you have to replace emitters every couple of years, they clog up from the calcium.
Sam, do you make custom acrylic tags? I'm part of a Hosta group and they are always looking for plant tags that will last. I thought if you do make them, I could send them your way and see if anyone might order. Garden beds look so good.
Sure I can make them! This may be a style they like? greenacrehomestead.store/products/garden-plant-signs-vegetable-flower-herb-markers-personalized-solid-acrylic
@@sam-and-angela Yes I think that's the right style but is there a link I can send to them in the group? The names aren't going to match what you have. So they would want to tell you what to put on each tag. I hope that makes since lol. Just let me know, thanks!
Plant seem to grow right before our eyes.
could double up on the drip tape and stagger the holes in them should give out water in more places , if the straight tube doesnt work run a loop around every plant
when i made watering systems i made a t on the feedline and atached the start and the end of the driptube to it , that way if theres a clog halfway down the line it still feeds from the other end and it lets the water go to the end of the line faster
even when automating the watering system keep an eye on it and stick a finger in the soil to test the moistness at several places , keep an eye on the plants too as they know perfectly well when there no water for them and show you their displeasure by drooping or turning brown if you dont take the first hint
One more thing you need to do. Please protect your family’s drinking water supply. Install a back flow prevention device. All states require one where a irrigation system hooks up to a drinking water system.. If the water water source pressure falls it could create a negative pressure situation and draw water back into your drinking water. An atmospheric vacuum breaker can be used if there is no isolation valve down stream of the breaker. If there’s an isolation downstream then a pressure vacuum breaker must be installed.
@thomasfreeman7770 this sounds so scientific and complicated but at the same time, makes sense. Thanks for sharing.
@@charlene5461 really not complicated at all. It is a simple device that won’t allow backwards flow of water should the pressure fail on the water supply. Instead of letting the water run backwards and possibly causing contamination of the drinking water with dirt and or chemicals that may be used in the garden. It opens a vent to allow reversing water to fall to the ground.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing
Peppers look great
As you were working on this I was thinking of a timer. Can't wait to see which kind you will add.
❤❤❤😊😊
I am paying attention
Enjoyed the video. I was wondering if you steel had the Earthquake tiller? I was looking at one and watched the video y’all put one together, and used.
We do! Still works and starts up very easily!
I tried a similar irrigation system by rainbird , didn't work for our garden at church. I bought different stuff from
Hoss products😊
That’s exactly where we bought our irrigation parts from! They have great prices. 😁
🤩😍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome
❤😊❤😊❤
Couldn't you have just put a few more holes in the drip tape
Angela tried that on one section, we had a mini jet of water. The holes are metered to only allow a calibrated about of water to drip out.
❤❤❤❤
Sorry for my comment on your last video, I thought I was watching Sam Craft. Love all your videos. 💖💖🙏🙏💖💖
Hello, very good this irrigation method. Good harvest 🍋🍅🥬🥦🫑🥒🥕🍆🍓. Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷 🥰🥰❤🎉😊
Well , THAT was labor intensive 😮…. But after a fix here and there - it works 🎉❤ !!! I’m guessing the new gizmo is timer for the irrigation…. ???
I'm seriously considering drip tape, but we also try to rely on rain water. So if we could switch between a barrel and motor to tap water when necessary that could work for us.
I'm not a gardener but curious, if you have yellow leaves from forgetting to water one day, how could a drip irrigation possibly supply enough water to keep the plants alive in an extremely hot environment planted in the sun?
Interesting vlog, I like how you did everything. Take care 😊
This was a testament to having patience because I would have been cussin and fussing 😂 can’t wait till the next episode ✌🏽
Instead of using an open flame to soften the tubing, another option is very hot water - no risk of melting the tubing.
you could have still used the 1st pipes. just punch your own holes .
Sam where can I find the lily white watch, you are wearing?😂
Good evening Sam and Angela , I have been away staying with a mate in Seascale in Cumbria for a few days , so I havent had a chance to watch as you continue your tasks . But now I have my pc back Im here to watch you succeed.
