You know, I find myself thinking the opposite, looking at people and thinking how simian they look, then I feel bad (and not unique to any one population group, btw). I find myself looking at peoples faces and either seeing wisdom or idiocy in them. It’s why I don’t much care for monkeys and chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans are okay most of the time, but anything that looks that much like a human and isn’t one always makes me think less of them… I wonder if it is the whole “uncanny valley,” condition? Like when cartoons or even robots look TOO human but still creep us out? Chimps and monkeys trip me out because they are so similar to humans but so capable of behaving in our worst natures (I know they are animals and try not to hold it against them). It’s a me issue, have a good day!
@@keithtomey5046: Depression kills your health. Mentally and physically. Even more in chimpanzees and gorillas, that's awful to see. How is it they show no symptom of depression? The Silverback stare must be the most intimidating one in the animal kingdom. You can almost see the speech bubble at the side of his head saying “what you looking at”
I still remember the stare from several years ago in the zoo. It was a direct eye contact, almost felt like human. Somehow with anger. No offense, like a black dude staring at you with blackattitude.
Actually, they use stares to assert dominance. And if you stare back intently, you are basically challenging them, and if you are not behind a glass they will charge at you
@@Vmax19 Hello, well actually, my mistake. The gorilla is really simply acting like a gorilla. I feel sorry for them not living out their life in their natural habitat that humans have mostly destroyed. Then we feel it is our right to lock them up behind bars for our own enjoyment and entertainment. We should lock many humans up in the zoo and throw the occasional banana and food scraps for them. Then we can find it amusing when the group of them fight over it. Haha, so much enjoyment it would provide. We can even charge an admission fee.
I was watching the head of the silverback eating lettuce, as it ate. The powerful muscles of it`s jaw moved it`s head a bit, which made me think perhaps that is why they have those big added areas on their craniums, to support such powerful jaws. Just beautiful creatures. Wonderful family members.
I admire these gorilla people. In spit of their agility, size and strength they appear to be fairly peaceful vegetarians. Can you imagine if they were carnivorous apex predators like bears or the big cats? We’d be looking at them in a totally different light wouldn’t we? And yet, here they are, for the most part peaceful grass eaters. Amazing footage, thanks
I saw in an interview with one of their zookeepers that Shabani doesn’t really enjoy the crowds watching him. The zookeeper said he’s started to kind of hang out more in the shadows since so many people fell in love with him and his family. I hope things have become less intense for him and he can relax a bit more.
This video says it all... He wishes he was alone and safe in his own forest with his family not in a prison... Unfortunately in today's world there are no safe places for these beautiful apes...
Very thoughtful animals. Watching the gorilla eat and ponder its surroundings shows that they have a thinking, wondering, critical mind that is very human like.
Gorillas are amazing, fantastic and smart animals. I could study their mannerisms all day. I feel bad when they aren't in their natural habitat though.
Would you rather they were in their natural habitat, their population being diminished every year by poaching and hunting? Would you buy their flesh in a fly infested marketplace? No, zoos aren’t natural but they’re becoming the only refuge left to these magnificent creatures. Maybe one day they can return home.
@@jenisemcintyre3839 An animal’s primary instinct is for survival, first and foremost. If we humans jeopardize that capacity by destroying their natural habitat, it is our responsibility to intervene and avert their extinction.
