Why are we still building with wood and drywall!!! CBS blocks, hurricane windows, and stronger roof structures are needed in this state. And other states facing the Gulf. My most heartfelt wishes for safety and strength in the aftermath to all my fellow Floridians. As I sit in my block home with 5 inches of water in the entire house, and in total darkness, except the light of my weakening phone. 😢

You guys were still blessed somehow that the storm has downgraded to Cat 3 when it made landfall. It was almost as strong as Sypertyphoon Haiyan when it was still at Cat 5. The Philippines in 2013 was not this fortunate. Prayers, guys. 🙏

Maybe now it’s time for everyone to just trust in themselves and save money they would have used for premiums. Most of all, when possible move to another state less affected by changes in the climate.

If anyone thinks that the homes in Florida are all the same, they aren't. Some of the newer homes suck and what you are looking at in the beginning of the video are mobile homes. That type of housing cannot withdraw and kind of major winds even if it's from a strong tropical storm.

Most other single family residences are built with concrete block, and wood frame roofs. Much more sturdy. Probably not fully up to cat5 hurricane strength code, but the odds of that happening are very slim
@@kille-4B the problem is existing homes would have to be upgraded which is not cheap. This work cannot be done by the homeowner without permits. New builds are also very unaffordable because of all the other regulations and impact fees. The only way to do this affordably is to build your own home, or just live more inland.

These are cheap manufactured houses, glorified mobile homes, that are placed on a foundation. These are not bonded to the foundation with rebar and cement block… These houses are for the elderly 55 and up community who are living off social security…

@@calibrik basically. A lot of those look like mobile homes. They're made off site then moved in on big trucks. People buy the "house" and rent the land. Which is a terrible deal. Especially since mobile homes count as vehicles not houses. So they go down in value rather than up. Plus, the landlord can raise the rent on the land and basically take your house if you can't afford the few thousand dollars it takes to have the home moved.
I saw a story on the news that a guy had bought straps and had anchors put into the ground to hold them, the straps went over his roof to secure it from being torn off. I hope there is a follow up to see if it actually worked.

What you see is low cost housing. In the wake of Hurricane Andrew in 1992 Florida passed stricter codes for wind in building mobile homes. Still, no match for water and wind. I have a relative that owned a mobile home and it withstood Hurricane Katrina. We were very surprised to see it standing. No one I know with a mobile home lost it to Katrina. Hard to explain some things.
Actually the opposite is true. Fewer hurricanes but more powerful when they do happen. A statistical analysis of historical records and satellite data suggests that there haven’t been more Atlantic hurricanes now than there were roughly 150 years ago. In fact we've had significantly fewer storms and hurricanes than predicted by people like Al Gore.

first of all storm chasers must have no fear and balls of steel cause aint no way id volunteer to be in that second prayers for all the people being affected this is the very reason we are considering moving more inland we live near matagorda bay and i just cant go through another hurricane

we in midle europe have such storm winds and flloods several times in the year we dont need a hurrican for that, but our houses are build more sturdy it seems, but im really sorry for all people wo are affected by this
What you see is low cost housing. In the wake of Hurricane Andrew in 1992 Florida passed stricter codes for wind in building mobile homes. Still, no match for water and wind. I have a relative that owned a mobile home and it withstood Hurricane Katrina. We were very surprised to see it standing. No one I know with a mobile home lost it to Katrina. Hard to explain some things.

Actually the opposite is true. Fewer hurricanes but more powerful when they do happen. A statistical analysis of historical records and satellite data suggests that there haven’t been more Atlantic hurricanes now than there were roughly 150 years ago. In fact we've had significantly fewer storms and hurricanes than predicted by people like Al Gore.

Light weight pop can mobile homes with add of wind sail carports and porches rarely do well weathering out storms.
