Back in the fifties, Cadillac truly was the "Standard Of The World" . This 58 is a beautiful, elegant automobile!! Remember, "Best Of All, It's A Cadillac!!!" 👍👍

Yeah it was jk has 3 Biarritz 2 57 and this 58. I’ve never seen a Eldorado brougham in person.. ads for the 58 Biarritz there aren’t any which was a total bummer but lots of ads for the series 62 Cadillac didn’t sell a lot of either in 58 probably because of the recession

@@What.its.like. We came across an 57 Eldo Brougham for sale once in LA. But, the ol' bank balance was just $115K short of the asking price that day. They are impressive and about 3/4 the size of a Sedan Deville

The button and switch under the 4 electric window switches are. 1. the windshield wiper control and 2. the button you press to wash the windshield.
Those vents on the dash at the base of the windshield are the a/c vents.

Just an FYI - Biarritz is a resort in the south of France that catered to the rich and famous. In English, it's usually pronounced, "Bee - are - ITZ" - with three syllables, the accent on the final one.

$2,500 wow that’s a deal can’t go wrong with either tho
Everything costs so much now and paying more for less quality.. the vehicles just rot out from underneath you now (not saying they didn’t do that back then) just saying I saw a brand new Chevy (a year old) looks worse then my 52

When my sister and I were little kids, 4, 5, 6 years old, we would stand on the floor and stick our finger down in them to feel the very cold air!! Lol. Summers in Palm Springs CA, are very hot! 110 to 125 degrees F Having AC was a rarity in those days, and we certainly enjoyed having it.

Answering your question. The "button" and the "switch" you described located below the window switches-
The button is for the windshield washer and the switch or lever is the wiper control.
I'm not sure about this car, but for years Cadillac had three-speed wipers. Interestingly, Cadillac's medium setting ran at about the same speed as low speed in other GM cars. And their high setting ran about the same speed as high speed in other GM cars.
The difference was in Cadillac wipers low speed, as it ran very slow. This very slow low speed setting was a good substitute for the lack of a delay-wipe setting that didn't exist back then.

I grew up in the back seat of a 1958 Sedan de Ville during the early 1960s. In 1972 I stumbled upon a 1958 Eldorado convertible rusting out on flat tires in front of a permanently closed service station in small town Gordon, Wisconsin, population 200.

The vents under the windshield are for the ac. The gas fill location was not the owners worry as every gas station was full service.

Nice video, full of info, no doubt, HOWEVER: it's pronounced BEE'-ah-ritz. They came with bias ply tires, drum brakes, and they rode very well (very boaty, ride, quiet inside and at that time, they had the most amazing options that no other manufacturer offered). These cars had an enormous amount of chrome, and boy, did you have to stay on top of that otherwise, the chrome pitted, especially by the exhaust. And I think air conditioning was almost a $1,000 option....that's like $9,000 today! These cars were only affordable to the wealthiest at that time. 8:36: those vents are where the A/C blows into the cabin. At that time, the blower was kind of weak, and in some hot climates, the A/C barely kept the car cool. GM Frigidaire A/C improved but it wasn't until 1964-1965 that GM got the A/C working well enough to cool the car sufficiently on the hotter sunnier days.

It's pronounced BE-ah-ritz which refers to a very popular resort in France. The word has three syllables, not two.

An amazing car to be sure, but I actually prefer the standard fins on the 57 and 58 Cadillacs compared to the thinner fins on the Eldo. Personally, my favorite are the 55 and 56 Eldorado fins.
That being said, I think the overall styling of the 58 Cadillac lineup was incredibly good looking and quite clean compared to the honestly kinda garish (although still very cool) 58 Oldsmobiles and Buicks. These cars have some of the most comfortable seats I've ever experienced! The interiors on these are so intricately detailed and really nicely made- it's a shame the exterior good looks get all the attention and a lot of people totally miss out on experiencing everything the interior has on offer.

Still was the best interior I’ve ever been in. In a 50s car =)

The A/C vents under the windscreen wasn't popular. It would blow cold air in the face and dry out eyes while leaving the lower part of the body and legs warm..

Very nice car, but the interior is a definite fail, totally incorrect fabrics, including the poor quality dash material, grain is horrendous, and flaws in installation. I have my parents 58 cadillac sedan they bought in 1960 from a Doctor friend of theirs. I was 1 year old. It Has the rare factory AC, Power windows, all still working with the original motors! Tinted glass, wonderbar radio with power antenna. Lifelong Southern California car, mom signed it over to me in 1982. It's still on the road, and gets alot of attention. Fun at car shows, and is frequently the only cadillac there! The original fabrics, in correct colors are still available, but pricey, but a car of this rarity absolutely should be upholstered correctly. Thanks for showing us this awesome 64 year old vintage automobile!
