My first pet mantis was a female budwing. I raised her from stage L2 or L3.. can't remember. She was very calm, very intelligent, and an expert hunter. I honestly felt like she knew me and trusted me. We would go outside looking for bugs, and she would always stay on my hand. One time, she disappeared, and I feared I had lost her. After a moment of worry, I looked up and saw she was on my bangs :D. It was an honor having such an awesome pet.
They’re a great starter species, even a bit underrated imo. I had a female Parasphendale agrionina I believe, she was 2in (5cm) at adult. My female didn’t move too much either, but she was very aggressive and did actively hunt her prey. She always used to threat pose at me, wings out and everything, and would also try to eat me. She lived about 15-16 months, laid 3 small ooths. Good video!
i have 2 at the moment, a male and a female. i think males tend to be more active. simon is a nutter, he throws himself round the tank and can often be seen running around or chasing something. sally however has her favourite spot which she rarely moves from, waiting for the food to come to her. trying to move her along for any reason, just gets you stared at. i love the budwings, they are often overlooked as being just a starter species but i think that they are well worth keeping for anyone. your guy is such a handsome little chap.
