I love how professional this review is, while the evil twin also gives a laid back feeling, I love the videos with the evil twin, as for the car, how good did the leathers and plastics feel? usual Chrysler or is it getting better?
I find Chrysler materials to be on par for the mainstream segment. Maybe you're used to looking at rental cars which have a cheap bargain look because they're base cars? As I said, I found the Compass interior to be a dingy but it was largely because of the black on black treatment. I'd have to look at a different color way to see if that's the case with others.
perhaps you are right, I grew up knowing fiats and Mopars to be sub par, and as a previous owner of the first gen 300, I carried on with that idea until now, perhaps today its different, and perhaps it might be time to check jeep again, haven't owned any jeeps since my first car, a faux wood wagoneer...
We just bought one. Everything is definitely much improved from ten years ago. If you told me in 2007 that I would eventually be driving a Jeep Compass for family hauling, I would have gone into depression. I can't believe we bought an American branded car, and a Jeep, even. It's that big of an improvement on first impressions alone. Time will tell how it holds up. Regarding plastics, the Mexico-built HR-V also smells pretty bad, possibly even worse than the Compass. Our Compass is OK, but we do have fragrant leather competing with the plastics.
Great Review. This needs about 25 more hp/tq considering how much it weights. Also, why not adaptive cruise and auto braking when other jeep models offer with a similar msrp.
It would be nice to see some reviews of base model vehicles. I know the manufacturers like to give you guys the top trims to impress, but $30+ grand for a Compass is nuts. The $20 grand version is that many people will be looking at, myself included
Keep in mind the powertrains are often the same regardless of trim level on many cars. It's a little more tricky with the Compass because there are three transmissions. And yes, I take whatever car I can get. I have a Subaru Crosstrek piece coming up that's mid-level if that helps!
Hi Tom, nice review :) I was wondering what the most comfortable and refined luxury saloon is that you have tested and how it compares in that regard to the most comfortable and refined luxury SUV that you have tested? Many thanks
The usual suspects, Mercedes S Class, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS and Genesis G90. The SUVs of course ride higher and don't corner quite as sharply but are more practical if you have to haul things. But really, you could have the help do that... right?
Thanks for your insight. I have always been a luxury saloon type of guy and have been put off SUVs by their handling dynamics as you mentoned - I was just curious how much of a gulf is (if any) between something like an S Class and an Audi Q7/Range Rover or even a Bentayga(despite the price difference) when it comes to ride quality and refinement?
Probably a Fiat 500X based platform. It's been reported Fiat is anxious to dump Jeep/Chrysler. To me, reliability issues and years of unstable management would prevent me from ever recommending a Jeep branded product to anyone.
It has a lack of interior storage places. But the exterior is a design triumph. It's a baby Grand Cherokee from the front and a poor man's Land Rover Evoque from the rear. 29-31 MPG is the same as the Renegade. The Compass is great if you can get a discount. Otherwise, the Ford Focus and Mazda CX-5 are the better handlers with better interiors. The Compass is on my list along with the Renegade, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Tucson.
Its confusing because the Renegade isn't really smaller. Look it up, a 4x4 Renegade is only 108lbs lighter than a 4x4 Compass, the Renegade has a taller roof and is a tiny bit wider. The Compass is longer. The Compass is more of a reshaped Renegade than a truly larger upgrade.
I like the design and i'm sure they'll sell bucket loads of them but I think they've overpriced it. I assume/hope that Jeep dealers will probably have some leeway with deep discounts - $37K! hahahaha.
"The interior comes in a rainbow of colors... as long as that color is black." Lol.
Impressive design improvement - still not sold on the quality... Thanks Tom - always a great job.
found it funny that the compass exhaust sound more aggressive than the civic type r when rev

You just taught me and so many ppl what an "H Point" is OMG it's so important at least for me car shopping now . Tom your casually amazing!
and did you mean to scare us with the window/wipers thing because you definitely did lol

its very beautiful. love it!
What's the point of the "easter egg" where you can turn on the wipers with the rear window controls?
A definite step up from the Compass of years past, as Tom suggests. Still, saving for a Bentley. . .
Evil twin is a good looking man
Why is it that everyone goes for the bad boys..?
Needs a bigger engine option
4WD should be standard on Jeeps.....
It would be a marketing move, similar to Subaru. But really, there are a lot of people who don't need AWD or 4WD.
Hehe, blazing the trail...

Did you get enough TP?
What's up with the rear windows and wipers? Lol
keri ellerbe wires got crossed
Hey Tom - every time I see him, I grow more curious. What does a guy bent on world domination (Evil Twin) drive?
Anything he wants...
this car is my favourite car jeeeeeeeeep
What platform has this Jeep built on? And is there any difference between a Tigershark engine and a regular engine?
Probably a Fiat 500X based platform. It's been reported Fiat is anxious to dump Jeep/Chrysler. To me, reliability issues and years of unstable management would prevent me from ever recommending a Jeep branded product to anyone.
Russell C Thanks! 👍
Tigershark is a branding name. This platform is shared with Fiat 500X, 500L and Jeep Renegade.
Driven Car Reviews Thanks for answering!
You can get a Alfa Romeo Stelvio for that price.

Yeah, interested in looking at the Kona.
You also forgot to mention Jeep's subcompact Renegade.
Well, that's definitely smaller (same architecture though). How about Subaru Crosstrek?
Driven Car Reviews Touché, Tom. And speaking about the Crosstrek, when will Subaru let you test it? (Same architecture as the Impreza).
Writing it now

1:42 180hp, not 108hp, lol! BIG DIFFERENCE!!!
DumbDuck44 he said 180
Did you quit the NYT?
Correct. I am no longer producing for them.
Jeep compass the best off roader
This guy.......
Royhan what
molto carina
Was that "It's gonna be huuuge." a Billy Fuccillo joke?
Trump reference I think?
Evil Twin likes to believe anyone who says that ripped it off from him.
This car is a perfect example of...damnation by faint praise.
Problem is it won't last on road.
This vehicle is underpowered if you ask me. It feels slow when you need power. It needs MORE torque
Wtf is the window control and wipers lol
Damnation by faint praise

Wow manual transmission
Seems cheap feeling to me
