I am pretty sure I read they wanted to change the engine, but .. as is often the case with Stallantis .. they have a tough time once they go to 4 cylinders and matching a good engine/transmission. I think a small turbo engine was delayed for it - but I get the impression of their 4 cylinders being well envisioned and somehow they never work as well as the billing and seem almost in testing stage still and you wonder if they are not doing their homework in that area well enough.
My Chrysler 200 had the same 2.4 engine and IT WAS THE WORST i had 3 engine replacements and it was so loud and underpowered i was so happy the day i got rid of it
Compass and Renegade are perfect vehicles for those who want a "rugged" Jeep image. Trailblazer and Encore GX are more like another GM "rental special" which I will have a chance to try them, when I am going on a trip at an airport rental lots somewhere in Chicago or SFO. Ecosport is just a pathetic joke which Ford tried to milk this segment, thank godness it will be discontinued.
I have the new compass and love it. However, I have the 3.6l Pentastar paired with the same transmission in our Chrysler Minivan. It gets great MPG and has plenty of power. With they would pair the 3.6l with the compass. My compass gets 28-30mpg and the minivan gets about the same.
You don’t have a Compass then. The Pentastar v6 (or any V6) was never an option for the Compass. Compass is only available with a 2.0 or 2.4 cylinder engine (depending on the year and trim level). A V6 in the vehicle would be a dream though. I have a 2012 and 2023 and the 2.0 liter turbo is a significant upgrade from prior models.

I am so glad to read a positive feedback, i can't believe all jeeps are total trash. You can't compare complex véhicules with added capability with a simple basic commuting car where pretty much nothing can go wrong...
Can anyone tell me if they ever fixed the oil consumption issue with the Tiger Shark? A friend's wife has a Cherokee with a tiger shark and it drinks oil as well as gas. The interior does look great and size has always been a good point of the Compass. But yeah buy a Crosstrek.
it is no Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk or Grand Cherokee. Jeep is placing the badge on some ? models (trailhawk). You should have reviewed the Cherokee trailhawk with the V6 :).
I feel fuel economy on all new cars will be a focus as energy security in regards to fuel is the current issue with large price hikes. The days of ICE cars is gradually drawing to an end and over the next 15-20 yrs will see a complete market shift in my opinion.
Jeep always meant: solid, strong and durable. Then, Jeep was bought with AMC by Chrysler Corp in the early 80's and quality began to swirl around the toilet bowl. Then Fiat took Chryco by the throat. Since then, the swirling to the bottom of that bowl is all but complete. Because we know what Fiat is known for, don't we? (It ain't good!😂)
I never understood Jeep. Outside of the Grand Cherokee, everyone makes excuses for them. I’ve rented multiple jeeps and been in many. The quirks are supposed to be enduring, but it’s mostly bad quality. The Wrangler can’t go down a road in a straight line and if you drive it in the winter, your head freezes and your feet sweat (and if you get a manual the transmission can pop out of gear). I had a Jeep Compass rental in Puerto Rico, what a POS. It was a joke. It was a few versions older than the current, but I guess it never changes. Same thoughts you had. The regular Cherokee is so so. But the steering is light and the front end feels like it’s a bag of bolts.
All wheel drive is driven in 4x4 on and off road with a power differential/splitter between front and rear axles, and traditional 4x4 can not be driven on road while engaged because the front and rear axles are locked constantly and will bind up on pavement especially when turning causing differential to lose teeth.
Nice looking, great in this color...but the engine is just so-so for city driving. Time for Jeep to invent a new 4 cylinder, no turbo please, and dual-injection is what people want nowadays.
The biggest reason to pick the Cherokee Trailhawk over this is the ability to get the Pentastar 3.2L V6. It's not that the 3.2L V6 is a world beater engine, it's just that it's a decent engine and this 2.4L I4 is a dog. Yikes, just over $44k. That's only $4k less than my Venza Limited was.
@@quixomega When equipped in the Cherokee, it's a 3 MPG penalty. Well worth it. If fuel economy is important, just get RAV-4 Hybrid. The Limited model is basically the same price as this Compass model costs. The RAV-4 Hybrid will also use almost half the fuel.

Andrea: "Although it's loud, struggles upper hill and struggles with you're trying to pass on the highway..." Geez, that's not a good start for that poor little Compass... Good Lord, who took care of that transmission mapping? Are we sure that's normal?
Its that zf 9 speed that was a hot mess from the beginning. It just doesn't work well with low power engines. Its much better with more powerful engines
In the US, the styling is nice, but the powertrain is simply totally mediocre. A crossover that folks will buy once, be dissatisfied, and nobody wants another. My local dealership in Westbury last month had 4 Cherokees for sale, and over 100 Compasses which says it all.
I have driven 4 different years of this jeep and yes don’t try going up a hill with five people. It has the worst trans. It makes no sense, some at keep must have test drive these compass up a hill. The older models were worse .
"It's slow" as you dust the car next to you. It's an offroad variant, should be reviewed as such, not fair to knock it as a street machine...if you want to do that, then get the street version, lol.

I'd take a CX-30 over this, in fact I did last year. I bought a GT Turbo.
How does the 4x4 work? Or is it AWD
it is no Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk or Grand Cherokee.
Do I detect Zack taking a pop at your driving style Andrea 🤔 🤣 not really followed jeep over the years but they seem to have a good product here!
Totally, but all in good fun 😉
@@andreaspencer9813 absolutely, if anyone can, Zack can and in good fun 😀
Guess Jeep will not be sending you another vehicle to review:)
(It ain't good!😂)
That rather gruff-sounding "Trailhawk" at the start of the video caught me off guard
Jeep needs to hurry up and bring the new Cherokee to market
Warranty warranty warranty..... Kia for the win.
Motor at idle sounds like it has a bag of bolts inside it. Have a 2019 has had more things go wrong before 40000km than other vehicle I have had.
What is 4 wheel drive and what is all wheel drive ? What's the difference?
All wheel drive is driven in 4x4 on and off road with a power differential/splitter between front and rear axles, and traditional 4x4 can not be driven on road while engaged because the front and rear axles are locked constantly and will bind up on pavement especially when turning causing differential to lose teeth.
I own a 2011 Mazda CX-7 with the old 166 hp MZR 2.5. It’s slower than this, BUT will out last this thing.
The Jeep Compass was JUNK when it was initially released, and it still is.
Ellerine emeğine yüreğine sağlık süper 💯💯💯💯💯..
"The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is the most capable subcompact cross-over there is"
And with that opinion your reputation is toast.
Good laughs guys! 😂 It’s ok to me. I never like the Jeep and price wise not worth it. Cheers! 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Glad you enjoyed it. Honesty is the best policy 😉
@@andreaspencer9813 Agree Andrea! 👍🏻
Nice looking, great in this color...but the engine is just so-so for city driving. Time for Jeep to invent a new 4 cylinder, no turbo please, and dual-injection is what people want nowadays.
It's a Fiat Heep
Put that 2.0 Turbo Hurricane engine in the car and I'll buy it.
They just did for 2023.
I guess, but the fuel economy of the Pentastar does kind of suck.
The Compass needs a 2.7 or 3.0 liter engine.
Lol what's next, a 3 cylinder model with 60hp?
A family member had a liberty. Total garbage. Caused so much stress. Was in the shop so much it was unbearable. After hearing the problems she has I'd never buy a jeep/dodge/ram/ Chrysler product.
I still would never buy a Jeep/Chrysler product. Low quality control and lack of reliability.
So what’s has more noise.. this or the RAV4 ?
This!
@@andreaspencer9813 how could a company let it come to market…it’s no wonder the big three are always behind in sales
@@gobear83 I have no idea. We had to be honest about it too, I can't lie and say it's great.
@@andreaspencer9813 that’s why I keep coming back to your reviews..great content
@@gobear83 We appreciate that! 🙏
Andrea: "Although it's loud, struggles upper hill and struggles with you're trying to pass on the highway..."
Geez, that's not a good start for that poor little Compass...
Good Lord, who took care of that transmission mapping? Are we sure that's normal?
Its that zf 9 speed that was a hot mess from the beginning. It just doesn't work well with low power engines. Its much better with more powerful engines
Well, if I were given a new one, literally given, I guess I’d take it, maybe.
Same engine
I own 21 compass and I absolutely love the car great on gas I have no issues passing on the highway it might rip up a little bit before that thing can scoot so these idiots have no idea how to give a review there is nothing wrong with that engine
Thanks for a good laugh reviewing this non-cheap Jeep.
Glad you enjoyed it
So to round it up the Jeep compass is a over priced piece of crap! Lol and yes I've driven one! What a disappointment. That engine and transmission are horrendous!
What a joke. That engine is overdue for retirement. I am 75 and I think that it is older then me! Overprice and out dated véhicule.
The best from Chrysler, why would buy this….hold on…better than a Range Rover 😅
....fyi....the nonverbal communication between you two....priceless.
So its overpriced noisy and has questionable reliability?
There are many vehicles that occupy the compact SUV space that are not..that.
So this car should be popular with the fart can crowd. Loud and slow but driven hard.
This car will climb a steep road with black ice the whole way up! Oh and it will warm up from -40 with half the gas consumption of a v 8.
It's a budget small crossover and you both are trying to review it like your comparing it to an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrofoglio.......SMH
