    A deep snow trick in the Discovery: If you lower the suspension, it will either pack the snow down giving you more clearance, or will raise the vehicle to extended mode if it can't lower any further

    The defender was doing some transmission knock (play?). Did you try diff lock on the disco?

    Where you had that Discovery stuck was pretty deep snow to be fair. The Defender is a lot more primitive - the technology is from the 80s, and even the vehicle from the 80s was just an iteration of what came decades before. So I think the Discovery has a better off road "system" with its excellent traction control. I would love a Discovery 4. But I can only afford to keep one Land Rover, so it had to be the Defender for me.

    Its nice to see the fun in the snow.
    Guys you just needed to lower the Tyre Pressures down to around 15psi .
    Well we have winter in front of us, so go back to the same spot when the snow is down again and repeat the excersize, you will amazed at the difference the low Tyre pressures produce.
    No one likes Lowering the Tyre Pressures (basically we're all a little too lazy), being so familiar driving with on the road Tyre Pressures, and not taking account of deepening snow will get you only so far !
    Then realistically, get out and reduce the Tyre Pressures

      Never heard that used in snow. Would be interesting to try.😊👍

      ?? Im very surprised, before the advent of Snow Chains it was the normal thing to do (when Off Road, in the Snow).
      On the Road not so much, as you will get by with 4 Wheel drive.
      While I was in the British Armed Forces, the Rule with driving Land Rovers was "As with Soft Sand, so with Soft Snow" both will make you their prisoner, if / when you do it wrong.

    Great comparison. I have a Jeep JKU and recently got a 1966 series 2A. I will keep the Jeep until I die because it goes anywhere. The Landy is also fun and will see more action as it gets restored.
    Enjoying your channel.👍

    Disco's issue is it's weight I think, sinks too quickly

    • @fromfinlandwithlove5276
      @fromfinlandwithlove5276  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah... I think it did sink in more. And that's why people think the snow was deeper.👍

    Interesting video - though it did look like the Defender had the better tyres with better snow grip. Did you use the off-road snow mode in the Disco?
    I did have all-season tyres with a similar tread pattern on my old X-Trai (I have a 2016 Disco 4 Landmark now) and I was in a muddy field once with all wheels spinning - luckily I licked the diff and (just) managed to get out.
    Now I'm looking for the best all-season, all-terrain tyres for my Disco that has the snowflake mark for legal winter driving in the EU.

    The Disco 4 is awesome in snow… IF you have true 3 Peak tires on it.
    If you don’t, it’s the worst vehicle I’ve ever driven in snow haha. Probably due to it’s massive curb weight on such a short wheel base, about 2,000 lbs more than that D90.
    I had mud tires on mine and got stuck in my driveway with just a foot of snow. And the driveway is perfectly flat lol. But once I put the 3 Peak tires on it… it turned into a winter-tank. Up, over and through anything I pointed it at with zero effort 👌

    ground clearance and tyres do the trick... did u try differential locks?

    • @fromfinlandwithlove5276
      @fromfinlandwithlove5276  Рік тому +1

      We had low range and snow mode on which diff locks when needed. All four wheels were spinning simultaneously when we got stuck. But yes, you are right about tyres and clearance. There is a way to lift the Disco even higher than the normal "high" hight, but I didn't remember how this "emergency" lift is done. Sometimes the car has noticed that it is stuck hanging on it's belly and suggested it. This time it didn't.

    all this talk of technology. The new tech is only trying to mimic the stronger more durable functionality of the old tech. Electronically, it is the cheaper way to a result that as it turns out, is not better just cheaper. The Newer vehicle has more power and is more comfortable. Is this really great? so while you are stuck in the snow on a mountain road, you will be more comfortable. Both have their place in the world. When chaos comes to the world The defender will be far better at meeting it head on.

    The mighty defender all the way

  • @arthursbodyandpaint5
    @arthursbodyandpaint5 5 місяців тому

    Its only obvious the defender has larger tires and more aggressive tires and a lot more ground clearance thats it any 4x4 with out enough ground clearance will bottom out on the frame. A fair competition would be a dry or muddy steep hills with ruts thats where the disco would win independent suspension traction control. the disco 3 and disco 4 have a nice balance very capable 4x4 but drives very smooth and quiet unlike older defenders or jeeps wranglers

    I think you put the Discovery through a lot deeper snow than the Defender, if you look at the wheels, on the Defender the snow barely comes up to the hubs whereas on the Discovery it is way over, almost to the top of the rims.

    • @fromfinlandwithlove5276
      @fromfinlandwithlove5276  5 місяців тому +1

      The defender has bigger wheels and more clearance so it goes less deep. We tried to be as fair as possible but sure there might have been some difference. But it was not a lot deeper, marginally deeper it could have been in some places 😊
