I actually have the same theory about leaf size in relation to light. If they’re getting a ton of light they don’t need big leaves to capture more. That’s been my experience too.
I just love you Roos. If you ever decide to move to Canada we can be friends ok? ❤️ I love that you rescue the snails. We don’t get snails here but I always save the spiders. I’m getting my first anthurium in the mail soon, a vitarifolium. Can’t wait to join the anthurium club.
Awww haha that's so sweet, of course! I love people who are kind to all animals ❤️ that's so cool, welcome to the club! I hope it grows wel for you 🪴👌🏻💕
Loved this video as Anthurium are my absolute favorite 💚 I didn't realize you had so many! I also give mine lower light for super dark foliage and they seem to be growing fine. I wish that I could grow mine in ambient room conditions but Canadian winters are harsh. Winter conditions in my house are so dry, 20% rmh at the most 👎🏼
haha yeah they're hiding all around my house! I absolutely love them. My house is really badly insulated so it's very humid - we even use a dehumidifier in winter. Maybe with the renovation that will change and my anthurium won't be as happy 😅❤️
I love love love your collection!!! Anthurium is my favorite plant especially Queens. I am happy to learn that these more adult plants prefer less light. I may need to move my plants not sure yet. They get sun in the afternoon, but I feel like they like it not sure. My palidiforum shows yellow in the middle of one leaf and I am not sure why 🤔
Yes you're right in that they have already spent the energy making it, but opening and possibly getting pollinated would take more energy plus they're not pretty or something. So that's why I do take them off
Hi Roos! What a cool collection of anthuriums! Geting jalous there! Hahaha I'm starting slowly mine with 2/3 clairinerviums (trying to polinate them) and a little silver blush. I'm starting with the less expensive ones so i don't regret any mistakes^^ Could you explain to me what does the F1/F2 mean and the N something aswel? 💚
Very cool! Keep in mind that clarinervium are VERY slow to pollinate, growing those seeds takes i think a year? Compared to crystallinum or other Anthurium that grow much much quicker. The F1/F2 thing: (from google) 'F1 hybrid is the term used for the first generation hybrid seed/plant that occurs following the successful cross-pollination of one plant variety with another variety.' F2 means a cross with a cross, I think. But i'm no expert! The N and also A numbers from what i understand are specific looking hybrids. I'm by no means an expert on this, my friend Samuel shares more about this on his instagram: instagram.com/p/CudZMAwrhww/
@@plantwithroos It is in deed realy looong... Looking every day at the little bumps forming on my inflo.... 🧐 Thanks for the informations, i will have a look at the account you send! 💚
You have an incredible collection. Especially that pallidiflorum. Never knew about upsizing the pot to get bigger leaves. Thanks for that tip and sharing your experience.
I'm new to your channel, maybe you already mentioned it somewhere but why don't you use pesticides for these insects? I have to say that I was postponing and postponing using them and I was removing these small evils mannualy but I never managed to win the batle with them like that. One time with pesticides that I was scared of, and the batle is over. I regrate that I haven' t decided to do this earlier as they had realy negative impact on my collection.
Hey! I have several videos about how I treat pests, with good bugs. I don't use pesticides cos of their potential harm to ourselves, our pets and the pollinators. Also especially thrips can become resistant to chemicals very quickly and then they're even harder to treat. But I'm glad it works for you! To each their own 👌🏻
Hi Roos!! Very cool and informative video!! Very nice and big collection!! 🌱☺️ The petiole diameter tip for size is great!! I was wondering if you make your own aroid mix for your anthurium and approximately which proportions do you use. Thank you!!
Snails really like beer. So you could add a small bowl and hopefully they will go for that over your plants. I am almost ready to take the plung. You are a bad influence hehe Great videos. Have fun
ooh i like this idea! lure them out. i tried it with cucumber and apple pieces but that didn't work very well. thank you! haha go for it! they;re so fun
@plantwithroos the would more than likely come out at night so beer is good as they fall in sadly. But its better for your plants. And they do lay a lot a lot alot of eggs so you will need to keep it up too.
Hello, thanks for this video. I'm newer to anthurium but I got a few queens and luxium that were going to be throw out. The roots are great and healthy but the leaves are messed up or cut completely off. I have them just in the light from my home. I live in a very sunny dry climate. Would it be best to put them in a prop box for a ton of humidity? Right now they are doing nothing its been about a week.
In a week I wouldn't expect new growth. But yeah if it's dry where you are, it will help them to be in a prop box, the higher humidity will help stimulate new leaves to come out smoothly ❤️
I have never seen mites on my sticky traps actually.. Maybe they're not attracted to them or maybe they don't stick to them? Interesting observation, I'm gonna test this out and look closer!
Hi! Can you tell please in what exactly video you told about 'the virus'? My clarinervium has got the same veird marks recently, and I am confused :( Thank you!
Just got my first two anthuriums (crystallinum and silver blush) and am quite anxious about them. Your video was wonderful and helpful, thank you so much for sharing your plants and experiences ❤️
Im a huge Anthurium fan! Roos i have a question - where do you get your "backside" plastic sheets for the poles?:} curious - cause i have no idea how to search for it in NL! :} Please please heeelp!
Many webshops (there's a list on my website www.plantwithroos.com/favourites) sell all plastic ones. I prefer these cos they stand up a bit stronger when the plant gets big 👌🏻
I get that about not killing the snails and slugs, sadly putting them outside can still be damaging to the outside garden and break the balance, here in Costa Rica we only have 2 season, first lots of rain and sun and second season even more lots of rain but during summer snails kinda hibernate they do not die they get inside their shells then the raining season comes and explode in eggs in your garden eat everything, plants get weak and sick that opens the window to pathogens like bad fungus or bacterial infections then it brings other pests and then everything goes downhill (maybe i added a little bit of drama haha)... I'm all about veganism but snails and slugs bring out my specism 😅😅😅 hahahaha I'm not so pura vida anymore when it is about these little slimy creatures
I know and sometimes when there's a lot of big snails, we collect them and I either being them to a municipal park or if its a lot, put them in the freezer 🙄 apparently that's the best, least cruel way to unalive them. Haven't done that in a while tho, only when they really start to effect the garden and they're taking over. I'm not sure the small ones from the terrarium would even survive outside here so that's why Im not too worried about this ❤️ also we absolutely loved our time in Costa Rica and hope to come back 👌🏻❤️
Do you find any need for fans or air circulation in your prop boxes? Everyone always talks about them in terrariums or greenhouse cabinets, but never in prop boxes even though they seem like they're very similar situations.
Thank you! I've imported a few times from Indonesia but there are also great sellers in the USA. I don't know many from the Netherlands that can ship there. I hope that helps?
You should try putting a piece of fruit in your terrarium with the snail problem, they will all come to eat the fruit and then you can remove them a little easier! plus maybe they'd leave your beautiful leaves alone for a nice piece of juicy fruit! Just a thought❤️
Hi hi! I just got into Anthurium. I have 3 seedlings of crystallinum and 5 seeds of magnificum x crystallinum. I keep them all in high-ish humidity. What is the humidity in your house (not in terrarium?) Also thx for the tip on lower light, i will try that!
Do you like Anthurium??
Yes! I recently got a anthurium Bessea aff and I got hooked!! She has been working on a new leaf which is unfurling now!
Loveee anthurium! I took so many tips from your video to help me keep my seedlings happy and hopefully grow them to maturity 😊
I only have two (Clari and Crys) and I love them.

Yes exactly! Oh that's so cool to hear! Thank you
Your home is my Anthurium heaven, have never seen so many beautiful hybrids in one collection. 💚
Thank you so much! ♥️
I threw a bunch of mine on moss poles and they immediately started sizing up.
That's so cool! Which ones did you put on moss poles? I'm not sure which one to try apart from the Queen!
