    You've got to love Citroen for daring to be different! They're selling like hot cakes here in France, particularly in Paris.

      I'm not surprised, the French seem to have a way about them to produce cheap, quirky runabouts that the public lap up. I seriously doubt they'll release it here, just too risk averse, and if they do you just know they'll ramp the price up then wonder why they didn't sell any. Here's hoping Citroen UK do the right thing!

      Perfect for people (like me) who have an ICE car and want to go electric but can't afford a new "proper" car. The Ami would work for 80% of our driving and for the remaining 20% we can keep the ICE car as the Ami won't cost any tax etc. Brilliant.

    My perfect car would be a low powered, great all round visibility, one specification, one colour in matt, low top speed, small, very simple, minimal dials and buttons, simple minimal and straight dashboard, easy to clean (vinyl seats), simple inexpensive parts, boxy, inexpensive insurance, and an easy and inexpensive way to repair scratches and dents. I have not been this excited about a new car since 1996. If they had these to rent around Peterborough I would be joining the club, if I don’t actually buy one. Well done Citroen! I am a driving instructor and would love it if I could put dual controls in.

    • @michaellavery4899
      @michaellavery4899 Рік тому

      At first glance this car seems ideal for many of us but a 44 mile driving range is a bit worrying. Imagine you were unexpectedly diverted due to roadworks or similar. And how often do we get lost when this happens due to incompet diversion signage due to the incompetent local authority?
      Another consideration is the current trend in energy prices. Electric cars are losing their appeal as a consequence.
      In the comment above, somebody asked about insurance costs. I imagine they would be pretty low due to the construction process, but this comes at a frightening cost. Accidents will happen. How often have you seen the aftermath of a collision where the occupants escaped without life changing injuries due to the construction of the car? In a vehicle that doesn't have much construction, guess what absorbs that damage? The occupants.
      Until everybody is driving vehicles that weigh less than 500kg at less than 30mph, I wouldn't be found dead in such a vehicle because I won't get in one.

    The comments are tipically missing the point: this kind of vehicles exist for years in Europe, they're just made to get from A to B in the cheapest way, and for the ones who can't afford a real car. Just look at France (and Portugal too). Ligier, Microcar are some of the french brands who make these kind of vehicles. And you don't have to get a driver's license (but you have to attend code classes anyway). And it reminds me the Mitsubishi Midget (the first one appeared in 1957).

    • @ianworley8169
      @ianworley8169 3 роки тому +4

      Absolutely correct. Here in rural Portugal and Spain, there are loads of 2 seater 2 stroke Aixam cars driving around. Typical limited to 50km per hour and driven without the need for a driving license. Horrible, noisy polluting engines and costing as much as a small normal car. These Amis will be a fantastic improvement. People really are missing the point about these cars. They're a fantastic second car for anyone to use to locally. In addition, older people can use these to provide mobility, not just in cities, but also in rural areas, where no public transport exists. I'd definitely have one. My Hyundai for long journeys, my Defender for off-roading and an Ami for 95% of local short journeys. Horses for courses.

    • @CrusaderSports250
      @CrusaderSports250 3 роки тому

      @@ianworley8169 totally agree, my point exactly, and with everyone saying they need to go faster, no they don't, people need to learn to slow down, whatever they are rushing to will still be there, or they could leave a bit earlier.

    • @ianworley8169
      @ianworley8169 3 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure cost is really a factor here in rural Portugal and Spain. There are quite a few Aixams pottering about noisily. The majority are new models and apparently cost well over 10,000 euros new. The real reason is because they can be driven by elderly people without driving licences. They're a bit of a nuisance, driving along at 30 km, but don't cause accidents or serious problems. These Citroen Amis would make a fantastic, quiet, economical alternative and be great for the environment in rural areas too.

    To qualify as a light quadricycle, it must not weigh more than 350kg minus the battery, the powerplant cannot be above 505cc ( 600cc for diesel powered versions). There is a 4kw (5.364 bhp) max power limit across ICE and BEV versions. The speed is also limited to 45kph (28mph). There is a quadricycle category above this called heavy Quadricycle, where power limit is raised to 15kw (20bhp) and no max speed limit, also a higher weight limit of 550kg ( not including the batteries). It is a niche product but these tiny things will likely get more popular within big cities.

      The entire point of this "car" is to be cheap. That is why the limit is at 45 km/h. Then it only has to follow the regulations of a scooter. It is strange how people go crazy because they compare it to cars. But actually it is legally a scooter, not a car. And a very safe scooter actually.
      Insurance, licenses, parts, etc will be much cheaper than with a regular car.

      You defiantly would need Tax & Insurance as it's a legal requirement in UK to drive/ride on the road, though cant see it costing that much, since a Scooter only costs £21 to Tax, though not sure for insurance but only having low top speed, again can't see it costing that much more than a Scooter.

Basically, its a sinclair C5 with a roof. I like the thing, its just not fast enough to do anything other than cause a traffic jam.
