    For me, the worst dungeon in Tears of the Kingdom is the Water Temple. The anti-gravity made no sense, and it just didn't feel like a dungeon. It was just a couple of puzzles in the sky. Finally, the boss was just annoying to deal with.

    • @kriscynical
      @kriscynical 2 години тому

      I agree with everything you said (although the anti-gravity is fun to me). Attaching a hydrant to a weapon, using splash fruit/chu jelly with a Savage Lynel bow, or building a floating water sprayer all help to make it less tedious. If you save the build in your autobuild catalogue, ofc.
      I made one using a hover stone, a big wheel on the bottom, and sticking hydrants on the outer portion of the wheel so they spray everywhere.

      Difficult dungeons are good. That's what we want out of dungeons, difficulty + complexity

    • @BenjaminWirtz
      @BenjaminWirtz 57 хвилин тому

      @@athorem It depends why they are difficult. If they are difficult because they involve a lot of backtracking, then it is poor design. If they are difficult because they have challenging puzzles that are hard but not so hard that a majority of people will give up, and that they have a boss that is reasonably hard but there is a coherent strategy for beating.

    • @athorem
      @athorem 49 хвилин тому

      @ Backtracking isn't bad design. It can result in more complex/interesting puzzles and traversal than Echoes of Wisdom dungeons that allow you to warp to different sections freely.

    I’m one of probably 5% of players to love the TOTK fire temple. Figuring out how to manipulate the mine cart tracks to get where I needed to go was so much fun, I still do it the intended way when I replay the game. The water temple is just awful though, took me 10-15 minutes first try doing things the intended way, and is just so uninspired.

    Jabu-Jabu is a solid pick for OoT. (Water Temple is not nearly as bad as its reputation.) Rito is annoying, the half of the dungeon amounts to "walk in room, walk back out of room," the sequence is arbitrary without much signposting, and the enemies are troll-ish. Plus the "music," while very thematic, is probably the least interesting track in the game.

  • @a.jthomas6132

    Divine Beast Vah Narboris is not a bad dungeon as you think. But the Thunderblight Ganon is the toughest boss in Breath of the Wild.
    Even if you came fully prepared, he is unpredictable as he can move everywhere and he can electrified you that’ll forced Link to drop his weapons.
    Beating him requires a lot of dodging, relying on your wits and come up strategies to strike him at the right moment.
    He literally gives me a run for my rupees!

    • @bigbrother4059
      @bigbrother4059 5 годин тому

      Just good timing and he’s not bad at all. Flurry rush those quick movements, just jump back almost immediately after you see him start to move fast. The second phase was tricky on a first play through though

    • @MillieBarger-ku7gj
      @MillieBarger-ku7gj 4 години тому

      I'm terrible at the combat, but Thunderblight wasn't a problem. Just wait for him to come up, use your Daruk's protection, whack him with the Master Sword, then pummel him with bomb arrows! Second phase is a little trickier, but not that bad!

    • @rottencabbage2021

    One of my lesser experiences in a Zelda dungeon took place in skyward sword’s fire sanctuary. I was stuck there for years as a child because someone on the dev team put an important interaction BEHIND A SAVE STATUE. While that’s more kids being stupid than an actual issue, I will be forever miffed at the puzzle at the second layer of phantom hourglass’ temple of the ocean king. Ignoring the issue of returning multiple times to a dungeon that saps your health if you don’t retrace your steps fast enough, here’s the riddle in question; Your ocean map is on the bottom screen. A mirror image with an important marker on it is on the top screen. The solution? Close and reopen your Nintendo ds to stamp the sigil on your map. The issue? Every time I did that, my damn handheld kept entering sleep mode, which is what that action usually does! So that game will be forever unbeatable until I can be bothered to delve into the console settings of discontinued hardware…

  • @andrewhaase1826
    @andrewhaase1826 7 годин тому +5

    19. I thought you were going with Death Mountain. An arduous trek all for a hammer.
    15. Even the 3DS Remake worsened the Gyorg fight by making the solution to defeat it a waiting game. In Majora's Mask. A game where you can ill-afford to have to wait.
    9. I'd disagree with the Zant battle. It's actually a clever deconstruction of Zant's character. Zant is the "Usurper King," it was not his right to rule, and all throughout the fight, he fights like a guy with unearned power. The entire fight is just living proof that he's throwing half-baked strategies at you and hoping something will stick. In the Goron Mines, he shakes the magnetic platform like he's trying to bully you off a swingset. In the Frozen Bedroom, he grows giant and tries to stomp you, only to start hopping around like an idiot when you hit his ankles and shrink SMALLER than his original size. And in the Ook phase, he's literally just monkeying around. And it all comes full circle at the final phase when you're transported to Hyrule Castle and Zant is done messing around. All that cool, cold demeanor is gone, there is only frustration and animosity. He pulls out double swords and goes absolutely nuts. If the fight is telling us anything, it's that Zant is at his best when he stops masquerading as some brilliant mastermind and fights like himself. His hyperactive, caffeine and crack-fueled self.
    6. I think the Sky Keep is worse. I've never been a fan of sliding tile puzzles. And the rooms in the dungeon are rearranged via a sliding tile puzzle.
    3. I think the Yiga Clan Hideout is worse. In a game that did a lot of things right, stealth was NOT one of them.

    • @rottencabbage2021
      @rottencabbage2021 2 години тому

      The Yiga Clan Hideout is more of a mini dungeon, so I don’t think it would be eligible for this list.

    Hard disagree on the Dark Palace being the worst in Link Between Worlds. You know what sucks worse than darkness? ICE PHYSICS. And there's AN ENTIRE DUNGEON FULL OF IT. Not only that, but the few times when the floors aren't threatening to throw you off from being slippery, they're pencil thin and moving! And the whole dungeon is a maze where you're struggling to find the next switch, the next key, to move the massive ice block in the middle and be able to explore more of the ever-changing environment. Doesn't matter that you can ride the elevator blocks down and grab the boss key immediately, you'll be carrying it for a ridiculous amount of time while you try to find your way through the ice maze! And when you finally get to the boss, guess what, not only does the boss arena still have ice physics, BUT SO DOES THE BOSS! I'll take the Dark Palace over the Ice Ruins ANY DAY.

    • @rottencabbage2021
      @rottencabbage2021 2 години тому

      I remember the Ice Ruins being pretty good actually. The pit at the bottom showing the base of a volcano was pretty atmospheric, and I liked that it was more of a confusing maze. After all, the dungeons in Zelda 1 were also called Labyrinths. I’ll be going back to Link Between Worlds later this year though, as I’m on a mission to 100% every single Zelda game.

      Don't let anyone make you feel bad if you use a walkthrough to figure out the water levels (which I recommend). It's the most obnoxious thing (and not fun at all) when you think you've solved it, change the water level, then find out you were wrong and have to go back and change the level yet again. Most Zelda dungeons make it fun even if you're exploring to try and figure out the path. This one does not.

    I HATE TotK's fire temple and never do it as intended. Honestly breaking the temple to do it your own way without the stupid minecarts is far more fun because of how creative it forces you to be, especially with how useless the map is. It would have helped SO MUCH if Nintendo had just put a little arrow going up or down on the map to show if the tracks were going up or down a floor. They put those signs over the doors in LttP for stairs!

    The other thing that makes Jabu-Jabu's Belly in Oracle of Ages a pain in the ass is how you swim with the mermaid tail item. You can't swim by just moving in a direction. You essentially kick by mashing the A button. This means that 1. If you have your sword to that button usually, your muscle memory goes haywire and 2. You're essentially only working with one item in the underwater sections, compounding to 3. If you want to use more than one item at a time, you're constantly going into the inventory to swap items back and forth, ala the iron boots back in OG OoT.

    Eh, can't say I agree with some of these picks.
    The Eagle Tower was a cool dungeon where you had to bring down an entire floor to open up the rest of the level. The puzzle of having to bring the iron ball to all the pillars was pretty nice. In comparison, the key cavern was just a key shaped cavern where you collected keys. No gimmick, just "find four keys" and that's it. As far as bosses go, I was quite disappointed with the face shrine's boss, which is literally just a face you beat with items you didn't even get in the dungeon. And no use of the shield in Eagle's fight? Only if you got good RNG and the eagle didn't try to blow you off. Though to be fair, not sure if you could use the normal shield for that as well.
    Link between worlds, again, the darkness gimmick was cool. I found the turtle rock much more tedious. Keeping track of where each warp was going, having to, again, collect a crapton of keys just to progress and the weird diagonal angle in many rooms that oftentimes didn't agree with the ice rod wasn't a lot of fun. Not to mention the overall gimmick was mostly just "freeze magma a lot."

    1. That 1 small key I couldn't find for years.
    2. The constant switching of items .

    idk that smells like a major skill issue to me.
    water temple still continues to hold worst (on n64 version) if ONLY because of the constant pausing/unpausing to put on and take off iron boots and messing around with the water levels. im glad that emulators added d-pad support for quick switching.

    I was about to argue with oracle of seasons pick, but then again the snowshoe ring which makes walking across the the icy floors easier is a linked game only ring I believe.
    City in the Sky ties with the palace of twilight to me, if only because it's annoying in length where as the palace of twilight is annoying due to the those orbs...
    also, I hate how the switch remake of link's awakening, nerfed the boomerang's ability to bypass the puzzle block walls, it made clearing it harder.

    Did we ever consider that it wasn't meant to be easy? Taking the easy route because the intended route is too hard for you doesn't speak about the dungeon, it speaks about the player.

      Gotta admit, this statement is true for both positive and negative aspects. Negative first: Means players will (possibly) cheat the system to beat the dungeon or (if possible) skip it entirely. Positive now: Most referencing ToTK for this, it makes the players THINK about how to make it easier, which brings their ingenuity out, to be able to craft flying, rolling, floating or just steamrolling setups with the in-game mechanics and make the Dev team look like they're the lolipop guild from the Wizard of Oz in the grand scheme of things.

  • @ResurgentRaven
    @ResurgentRaven 3 години тому

    Zelda 1 I feel it's a cheap shot to use Death Mountain as its the final one. So instead, I'll pick Level 6, as both it and Death Mountain have 1 huge problem. Those flipping Wizzrobes. Easily the worst enemy in the whole game and only your Sword works on them. So if you get damaged by them, good luck fighting them in close quarters.
    Zelda 2 can't say, haven't played it past the first dungeon.
    A Link to the Past I'd agree. Ice Palace was awful. Turtle Rock and Skull Palace weren't much better, but Ice Palace was the worst by far.
    Link's Awakening - Eagle's Tower is definitely the worst if we're talking the original. I'd actually say the Color Dungeon is the worst in the remake since it has you fight 3 annoying sub bosses that can be incredibly annoying.
    OoT - Well it had to be one of the two water ones. I'd actually take either of them over Dodongo's Cavern, especially in Master Quest. At least the boss in Jabu Jabu is fun and the Longshot is a breath of fresh air compared to your short Hookshot.
    Majora's Mask - I'm bout to be crucified for this, but I can't stand Stone Tower Temple. The idea is incredible, but the challenge is mixed. And having to flip the temple 4 times to get all the stray fairies (believe me, I checked), is overkill. The Great Fairy's Sword isn't even worth it unless you're not going for the Fierce Deity (which if you aren't then the effort required to get this sword is stupid).
    Oracle of Ages - Yeah, Jabu Jabu definitely. F*** that dungeon. Worst 2D dungeon in the series, bar none.
    Oracle of Seasons - I don't really have a negative reaction to any of the Season dungeons. Probably need to go back and play it.
    Wind Waker - Can't really argue with the first Forsaken Fortress visit. The second time is actually not that much of a pace breaker since you're armed to the teeth this time.
    FSA - I'd argue Return to Hyrule Castle is the worst. A forced stealth mission combined with meh Lanturn puzzles. The boss is annoying too.
    Minish Cap - Either Fortress of Winds or Temple of Droplets. Ice Palace didn't get a pass, Temple of Droplets shouldn't either.
    Twilight Princess - It's Temple of Time. Kinda just boring all around. At least Palace of Twilight has proper buildup. Temple of Time is just a fetch quest. The miniboss is the only thing saving it and it isn't even unique since you have to fight it multiple times later on.
    Phantom Hourglass - It's the Goron Temple. Most of PHs temples kinda suck, but the Goron Temple requires you to have to fight with Gongoron and his controls are very wack. You also get the Bombchu with very janky Stylus controls.
    Spirit Tracks - Tower of Spirits is definitely in contention, but that feels like cheating, so I'll pick the Ocean Temple. It's a hassle just getting to the dungeon between the pirate attacks and the introduction to the new Armored Trains. The dungeon itself is fine but requires a lot of backtracking in the case you mess up the sword statue puzzles. And overall the constant waiting on the propellers to carry you places is a bit of a patience game. The boss is also not great either. Very taxing.
    Skyward Sword - I'd argue the Lanayru Mining Facility is worse. The Gust Bellows are used constantly in the Present version and the enemies are more annoying in the Past version (ahem Technoblins). The boss is kinda a letdown too. The Earth Temple I feel like gets the most flack from having a really uninspired boss. All this draconic design and you give use a meatball with sticky hands?
    ALBW - Dark Palace isn't great. The Palace of Winds is pretty lackluster too.
    ALBW probably had the best quality 2D dungeons. Not too much bad here.
    BotW - All of them. They all sucked. Except for Vah Medoh. That one was tolerable.
    TotK - The Water Temple. Pure mediocrity from start to finish. The boss was single handedly the worst 3D one in the series. And it has to contend with The Imprisoned Phase 2.

    Sounds like someone needs a waah-mbulance. A lot of these “worst dungeons” are simply “challenging”. I’ll admit that Adventure of Link is just overall an unpleasant experience because they deliberately ramped the difficulty up to something the game testers found challenging; and I’ve only played two of the “mobile” Zelda titles (Link’s Awakening and Phantom Hourglass), but I liked the mechanic of unlocking the temple in Phantom Hourglass in stages to be fun, looking for a more efficient solution to maximize time and found the Eagle’s Tower to be a fun, if sometimes frustrating, challenge when I played it on the OG GameBoy. Most of the other ones that I’ve played are just a matter of paying attention and possibly taking notes.

      LoZ: Level 6. Lagging rooms full of wizrobes; One-shot Ghoma boss. Magic Rod is cool, though.
      ALttP: Tower of Hera because of the constant going up and down through holes in the floor. The boss fight is as much luck as skill if not more, and it resets every time it knocks you off the platform.
      OOT: Bottom of the Well until you find the Eye of Truth. Deadhands is still nightmare fuel to this day.
      MM: I find the Dekus annoying in general.
      WW: the missing sage temples followed by the triforce fetch quest from hell.
      TP: probably Cave off Ordeals; tedious
