I am 70 years old and have always used vegetable shortening for my pie crusts with always good results. I am famous for my lemon meringue pie. That being said, I am anxious to try this oil pie crust rolled out between two pieces of wax paper. It looks good, wish I could see the finished cooked pie so I could see if there was any shrinkage. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Love it.
If you have parchment paper, that works even better than wax paper to roll it out with (especially for 9" or larger pies. My sister uses this recipe for her lemon meringue pies and they are yummy! Unless you put in too much oil and if feels really greasy in your hands, you won't have much shrinkage. We pierce the crust with a fork all around the sides and bottom. You could also blind bake the crust with baking beads or beans or whatever if you are worried about shrinkage. Getting the fluted edge right up on top of the edge of the pan (not halfway down) helps the fluted edge stay put as well.

Thanks for your kind words. I currently use parchment paper instead of wax paper because it is bigger and works for those 9" pie tins. Also I tend to double the recipe for three 9" crusts (one double, one single or three single crust pies) because the standard recipe was originally for 8" tins (like Marie Callender tins). Made my first ever pie crust tonight with this guide and it was very easy and turned out awesome! I did two 10" pasty/pot pies with each having a top crust, the filling (venison roast, onion, potato, carrot and garlic) was done in a crockpot ahead of time. I made the bottoms with one batch (2 crusts), filled both, then made the top crusts for the 2nd batch. I put one in the freezer and one in the oven at 375 degrees for 19 minutes and turned out awesome golden brown, flaky crust! Awesome video!!

Hi Linda, I just have to say THANK YOU for making this video! I will be 70 in December and have always been afraid to make crust/pies! Thanks to your recipe and instructions I am elbow deep in crust and pie making!!! Such fun!!! Love it!!! Again, bless you for making the video! I hope all is well with you and your family and that you are still making pies and enjoying it!! You are a blessing!❤️❤️❤️
I love this recipe! Have made over a dozen pies and mini pies using this method. EASY pie crust! I add a little lemon juice to the wet ingredients- it seems to give the crust a nice taste. Thanks a bunch.
This is the best! I am 61 and have tried all my life to make piecrust and failed!! This is the only one that works for me!! Best tasting and easy to make!! Thank you for sharing!!

Thank you also for showing how you flute the edges - you need an award! I will give you my own big heartfelt award, here you go: ☆☆☆♡♡☆☆☆♡♡☆☆☆!!!
I wanted to let you know how pleased I am with this crust. I made two single crust pies and really couldn't tell the difference in it and my "go to" butter and lard crust made by hand. My only complaint is it was too thin for the 9" pies so next time I'll make double and freeze the leftover for later use. Thank you for sharing this very worthy recipe and family secret! I wish you had shown your completed cooked pie....would you consider doing another video using a different fruit or doing a series of videos of your family pie recipes?? God Bless, Linda
Hi Perry, there of course is a difference...the lard and butter based crust is lighter and flakier....but having said that, this oil based crust is really good. I've tried other oil based crusts that were not good at all. This oil based crust takes all the worry out of over mixing and over watering. For the beginner OR if you're just in a hurry....THIS is the worry free crust to use. Start with this one Perry and then try the lard and water. This one will save you a lot of "beginners" frustration. I'm using this for my holiday pies. I shouldn't have said I couldn't tell the difference...there IS a difference but, left behind is the time consuming and worry it won't turn out as well as you wanted it to. I hope I've clarified it for you. Merry Christmas!!!
Since I am usually making more than one pie at a time, I usually double the recipe and it makes a two single 9" pie crusts with either some you can roll out and put on parchment paper with cinnamon sugar (pierce it with a fork) for the kids to nosh on or a generous 10" double crust pie. Sometimes I even quadruple the recipe!
Perry Rose In 2019 are you an expert pie maker now.? I tried this recipe today and it’s so much easier then butter or lard but of course either butter or lard tastes the best if you can get decent lard which I cant
The easiest crust I have seen by far. I was taught as a child and hated it bc of all of the rules to not have a tough crust, dont handle too much, not too much water, the water had to be ice cold, and so forth and so on. As a result, l didnt bake pies. This recipe is perfect and I can look forward to baking for the holidays again. Thanks for sharing.
Your recipe was spot on! I made an apple pie with your crust recipe this week and it baked up well and was very tender and flakey. Husband loved it! This recipe has a permanent spot in my recipe box! Excellent tutorial. THX
You have shown me why mine has sometimes failed. I have seen this same recipe made by several other you tubers and yours is the fastest and easiest. You have also cleared up all of my particular issues that I have had with this recipe, so thanks for the helpful details that makes it so much simpler. So you are right your method would make it never fail! Thank you!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I am going to make a peach pie, and I'm going to use your recipe. Your demonstration was so thorough down to fluting the edges. I can't wait to try 🙌🏼
Very well done video. Clear verbal instruction with excellent visual work. Your tips on rolling and flipping the crusts with wax paper were great. I have never been happy with my results using shortning and ice water, trying to keep everything cold. I'm looking forward to trying your method. Thank you.
My mother always made her crust with oil. Sadly I never got her recipe before she passed. Thank you for the recipe, it is probably the one my mom used. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you for this simple recipe and excellent technique. This is a very encouraging demonstration. I've never had success with pie crust before but now, all that has changed thanks to you.
Oh my word! I have never ever had success with making a pie crust until now. Thank you so much for this I made it and it is flaky and not bitter and it couldnt be easier!
The best crispy flaky pie crust ever. Browns nicely because of the milk. I tried it with buttermilk and it was delicious. If you don't have wax paper, use parchment paper or even a sturdy plastic bag cut into two flat pieces. I always double the recipe and make 1 one crust pie and one two crust pie from that amount.
WOW! Finally I made a pie crust that taste great and didn't have to spend a lot of time! I pre-baked my apples in the convection oven. While those were baking, I made the Winter Family Crust. Then put it all together and put the pie back in the convection oven for 15 minutes and DONE! THANK YOU!
I like this oil/milk pie crust the best. I like how this lady shows how o get the wax paper NOT to STICK to the crust. Her method was great. I've been frustrated with this problem. Also, her method makes very little mess. Great ideas...
Thank you so much, I have never made a pie crust before! I have found many recipes with lard & shortening, which I am totally against !! I’m going to use your recipe !! Great video !!
I really appreciate your recipe and instructions. I can't wait to make my pie crust. I did try one very similar to yours years ago, except the recipe called for a little bit of vinegar.
Just remember: if your pie baking fails, IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!! it's still one hundred percent to roll around on the floor with the below average food while laughing hysterically IT AIN'T ALL BAD I TELLS YA, IT ALL BAD , IT AIN'T ALL GLOOM IN DOOM AS LONG AS YA GOTTA A FLOOR AND THE DAY BESIDE YA!!! 🎃
I have tried this recipe several times - both without an egg and with. The crust does indeed hold better and is more flakey and easier to bind and work with using one egg. This is a terrific "go-to recipe," but needs the egg for sure. Thanks for sharing...
I followed this video to make an apple pie. I didn't spend much time fluting the edges pretty but it was good enough for the immediate family. I liked rolling out the dough between wax paper and how easy mixing the dough was. Tasted great!
Well......................we just finised a pie with your crust. And it was just tremendous! I did have some trouble flipping the crust into place in the pan. But, in the end, it all worked. Thanks so much.
I tried this pie crust this morning, and it was wonderful. It was very flaky. I am amazed. I tried making pie crust with butter and shortening, and they were nice too, but not as nice as this recipe. Thanks for sharing.

I've been watching many oil pie rust recipes and videos and I think yours is the best. It's quick and concise with a lot of tips thrown in. Just wondering if you are a home economics teacher? You must have a lot of patience to have several teen girls baking in your kitchen at one time. Thank you for your video.😋
Hi I made my first pie crust today for a 23cm cheese and onion flan wow my crust is to die for and so easy to make and line my dish, thank you . Gwyneth Nee Zealand 🧑🍳
It makes a wonderfully flaky pie crust. Mrs. Winters does a beautiful job with her 8-inch two crust pie plus crimping. I find that it takes practice and experience to use this crust because it breaks easily and messy to try to patch. If you get that far the crust when baked is forgiving of the patching. I think I used an egg wash on mine for nice browning or maybe milk will do just as well. It’s been awhile since I did this crust but it is nice and so flaky.
yayyy for the pie crust lady! I read all your comments, everyone was pleased (except one guy but who cares about him) so so glad you are as convincing as you are too. I know you make a fantastic thanksgiving dinner, too. will you adopt me? you're adorable!!!!!
i have a fail-proof egg pie crust similar to this but instead of milk, i use ice water and add some sugar and less salt. but your technique about the wax paper has given me the confidence to make them years ago when i watched this video. and since then, i managed to bake so many pies, i've even been able sell them on the weekends for extra bucks, too! in my country people use the traditional pie crust recipe and when people try my pies they always comment about the unexpected but pleasant taste and texture of this particular crust. it really goes well with custard topped with meringue, you guys should try it!!!
This is a great video with such detailed and informative instructions! I am going to try this recipe right away! I have made my own crusts with Crisco, ice water and salt but they are still tricky and don't always come out no fail! It has always been a very tense affair for me to make pie from scratch because of the finicky crust!!

Glad to be a help! We are still making pies and still enjoying them...
Linda Dorr 😊❤️
Love this pie crust, easiest yet. Thank you so much
I love this recipe! Have made over a dozen pies and mini pies using this method. EASY pie crust! I add a little lemon juice to the wet ingredients- it seems to give the crust a nice taste. Thanks a bunch.
Did you get the help you so desperately needed ? 🧐
This is the best! I am 61 and have tried all my life to make piecrust and failed!! This is the only one that works for me!! Best tasting and easy to make!! Thank you for sharing!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting your absolutely fool-proof pie crust! I love you, Linda, you're so generous for sharing. Your crust recipe is PERFECT EVERY TIME! I like the parchment paper, too. I save the 2 sheets and use them over and over. Thank you also for showing how you flute the edges - you need an award! I will give you my own big heartfelt award, here you go:
☆☆☆♡♡☆☆☆♡♡☆☆☆!!!
Thanks!
I have never made a pie crust, tried this one ,oh my goodness it was easy and came out great very impressive Thank You 🙏
I wanted to let you know how pleased I am with this crust.
Non stop helpful tips from start to finish. Thanks.
What Lenora said!!!!!
Looks great! I must try this. Thanks for sharing your family recipe and making the world a little sweeter!
Thank you so much my go to pie crust from now on!!
Thank you!
Hey everyone made this pie crust yesterday came out absolutely perfect.I made a mushroom quiche, the kids loved it!I The bottom of th quiche was not sogggy the edges was flaky. This my go-to pie recipe and have tried many.Thank you

Thank you for sharing your family recipe for this daunting task. I look forward to testing it soon!
Mem thank you for this recipe. I made it over the weekend and it was a success. Made chicken pie . My family loved it.
I like milk brushed on the crust, then sprinkled with sugar. Nice to see someone who loves a lot filling, YUM!
I aways had trouble making pie crust. I gave up on it for years. This pass week I was looking up recipe for pie crust. I can up on your recipe for a 🥧 crust. I try it for Easter. Thank you so much. I know I'll will make my crust this way now on. It was the most flakey pie crust I ever had.
you are the nicest, sweetest, "teacher" ever! wow! I like your way so much. you have the best disposition, you keep your video moving, you are not boring at all, and best of all for me, you don't act like a know it all. your technique for the lovely fool proof pie crust is absolutely perfect! I like you.....thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!
I am glad if it helps you and your family enjoy more homemade pies!
Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I am going to make a peach pie, and I'm going to use your recipe. Your demonstration was so thorough down to fluting the edges. I can't wait to try 🙌🏼
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. Your presentation was wonderful.
Watching during pandemic. Will try this recipe. Thank you, nice lady😊
Love how fast and easy this was! I wanted to try something different and have decided this is my new go to pie crust. Thankx :)
Cant wait to try this. Thank you! Awsome tutorial!!
Wonderful and tastes fantastic. Thank you.
This is my go to recipe now! Love it!
Thank you for nice video.
God bless you and your
family this holiday season😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
First time making one for me and it was delicious! Thank you for the video!
Brilliant simple to make! Thank you.
WOW! Finally I made a pie crust that taste great and didn't have to spend a lot of time! I pre-baked my apples in the convection oven. While those were baking, I made the Winter Family Crust. Then put it all together and put the pie back in the convection oven for 15 minutes and DONE! THANK YOU!
Your wonderful 💖💖saved me a lot of anxiety!
Thank you sooo much
Patricia
Amazing. Enjoyed ur video.
I like this oil/milk pie crust the best. I like how this lady shows how o get the wax paper NOT to STICK to the crust. Her method was great. I've been frustrated with this problem. Also, her method makes very little mess. Great ideas...
Just tried it...Great !
Thank you so much, I have never made a pie crust before! I have found many recipes with lard & shortening, which I am totally against !! I’m going to use your recipe !! Great video !!
Thank you soooo much, I will definitely try this crust tonight because I have been craving apple pie for so long :)
This was nicely done. I'm very impressed.. excellent technique!
Did you modify the amounts of the other liquid ingredients?
Sure did. I have one in the oven now - Southern Tomato pie! Thanks for a truly "No fail Super Simple" Crust. Perfect everytime!!!
The addition of an egg would make the crust sturdier and a bit more bready...so if that is what you want, then great!
Excellent video AND recipe!
I followed this video to make an apple pie. I didn't spend much time fluting the edges pretty but it was good enough for the immediate family. I liked rolling out the dough between wax paper and how easy mixing the dough was. Tasted great!
I really enjoyed your tutorial. I have "Pie Anxiety" and seldom make crusts from scratch but I'm pretty sure I could do this! Thanks for uploading.
May you go and make many, many pies!
I feel so pie-enabled now, thank you!
Seek help.
I see this is from the Betty Crocker's cookbook in the short it section. It's such an easy crust to make. Glad to see a video of it.
Very well done,TFS.
thanks!
Thanks for sharing.
thank you so much for this!!! this is exactly what i'm looking for!!
You Rock! Can't wait 2 try this. Thanks!
I agree with Jennifer, Was waiting to see the finished product. Great recipe though! Thank-you for sharing
I am so sorry I didn't think to do that. If you go to our Winter Family Wordpress recipe site, we have a bunch of pie filling recipes and pictures of finished pies using this crust! Here is the link: winterfamilyrecipes.wordpress.com/
Thanks for sharing your recipe. I came to this video in desperation after having made a butter, water, and flour mess. I'll use this recipe next time for sure! I hope this lattices well...
It does, although you have to be very careful because it is fragile. We cut up the strips and use a table knife to transfer to the pie.
I'm so excited to try this! I've never made a homemade pie crust, and I'm so intimidated by them! Wish me luck :)
How did it come out?
How's everything been coming out for ya? 🌞
I absolutely Loved this video :)
So glad I found this! Just about to make a quiche!
I've been watching many oil pie rust recipes and videos and I think yours is the best. It's quick and concise with a lot of tips thrown in.
Just wondering if you are a home economics teacher? You must have a lot of patience to have several teen girls baking in your kitchen at one time. Thank you for your video.😋
great recipe and great directions thanks
Hi I made my first pie crust today for a 23cm cheese and onion flan wow my crust is to die for and so easy to make and line my dish, thank you . Gwyneth Nee Zealand 🧑🍳
Whatever you say, Gwen.
Thanks for letting me sharing!
Thanks
I am trying this tomorrow for Halloween. Thank you for making this video. I think I can do this.
How did it come out?
yayyy for the pie crust lady! I read all your comments, everyone was pleased (except one guy but who cares about him) so so glad you are as convincing as you are too. I know you make a fantastic thanksgiving dinner, too. will you adopt me? you're adorable!!!!!
You are too sweet, thanks!
i have a fail-proof egg pie crust similar to this but instead of milk, i use ice water and add some sugar and less salt.
but your technique about the wax paper has given me the confidence to make them years ago when i watched this video. and since then, i managed to bake so many pies, i've even been able sell them on the weekends for extra bucks, too!
in my country people use the traditional pie crust recipe and when people try my pies they always comment about the unexpected but pleasant taste and texture of this particular crust. it really goes well with custard topped with meringue, you guys should try it!!!
I believe that is the prettiest homemade pie I have ever seen, and I'm older than dirt🤣 (I've seen a lot pies over the years)
This is a great video with such detailed and informative instructions! I am going to try this recipe right away! I have made my own crusts with Crisco, ice water and salt but they are still tricky and don't always come out no fail! It has always been a very tense affair for me to make pie from scratch because of the finicky crust!!
