The 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' DVD single was released October 2011. Suzuka was thirteen, Yui and Moa were twelve. They recorded it a year before that. Their original budget was so small that Su's coat was borrowed from one of the Sakura Gakuin teachers. Moa's shirt was borrowed from Yui, and Yui's from fellow Sakura Gakuin student Raura. The girls taught the skeleton dudes the dance moves themselves. Pretty much everything that followed was because this video unexpectedly blew up. Moa has commented recently about how good Su is in imitating her younger voice when she sings this song these days.

The song is about a girl waking up late and getting ready in a rush for an exciting day at school with her friends. It covers all the traditional metal themes like picking what lip gloss to wear, getting her hair straight ... you know the sort of thing. This was their very first song and was recorded late in October 2010 - Su was 12, Yui and Moa (they were small and looked younger) were 11. The video was recorded nearly a year later - and you were spot on, they did it on a shoestring budget, Su's jacket was borrowed, Moa borrowed her top or something from Yui and Yui's was borrowed from another member of their parent group Sakura Gakuin. If you look closely you can see the white tape used to make the Babybones skeleton costumes is also peeling off the black body suits. There is a commentary video and the girls were very pleased with themselves for teaching the choreo to the Babybones guys so they could dance along with them in the video. The "trilogy" you have been recommended is not actually a trilogy, it is just the last 3 songs from the Legend 1997 concert - 'Headbanger', 'Akatsuki (unfinished (acoustic) version' and 'BABYMETAL Death'. It is those specific performances you have been recommended to watch (live at Legend 1997). I would suggest you watch the full version of 'Akatsuki' live at Budokan first - the unfinished version is very different and Su only performed it live that one time. 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' was their second song, but 'Iine' (yes ee-neh, you got it) was released before that as their second song ... that one will surprise you.

(pronounced "E-nay" - two i's followed by an n and an e) - if this MV had you scratching your head, going "WTF?!", then "Iine!" will peg your "WTF" gauge!!! And, yeah, you got it right: it was Moa, Su, And Yui in that frame. I should mention that Yui typically stands to the left of Su (as you look at them) with Moa on the right but they will switch sides from time to time during performances. This pretty much was Babymetal on a budget, as this was when they were still in the developmental stage and only doing BM part time/on the side as they were still primarily Idols. Koba was given a small budget to experiment with BM on the side to see if it was commercially viable, which resulted in a few shock value videos like this one and the rest is history. The first performance I’ve watched was from November 2010, but I’ve heard their might has been one earlier performance. This video actually came out around a year after the first performance, but those more knowledgeable will correct me. Yes this was on a budget. No live band yet, Su borrowed her jacket from a staff member. Yui, or Moa borrowed a tie, or something from the other. I’ll stop and let the professional give the background.

I just want to clarify 1 thing to avoid confusion on your part: the live band, the Kami Band, is composed of hired musician that tour with them, and they are not technically part of the band. That means that they are not necessary them that play in the studio recording. However we know for sure that at least 1 of them, Leda Cygnus, played the guitar in a few of their studio songs! The song has a "modern heaviness" sound in its music, with dark, atmospheric instrumentals that reverse into a catchier and brighter melody with lyrics such as "Rin rin rin! Ohayō, wake up" (Ring ring ring! Good morning, wake up). Kikuchi noted how the tone of the song was directly opposite to Japanese kei-on music (light music); as a result, the band formed under the label Jūonbu (heavy music club) to signify the contrast. Nakamoto, whose vocals were recorded separately from those of Mizuno and Kikuchi, needed to speak quickly but clearly in the verses.

Great reaction, you picked the right song to liven yourself up with. Doki doki is onomatopoeic for a fast or excited heartbeat. The song is about a girl waking up late and getting ready in a rush for an exciting day at school with her friends.
It covers all the traditional metal themes like picking what lip gloss to wear, getting her hair straight ... you know the sort of thing.
This was their very first song and was recorded late in October 2010 - Su was 12, Yui and Moa (they were small and looked younger) were 11. The video was recorded nearly a year later - and you were spot on, they did it on a shoestring budget, Su's jacket was borrowed, Moa borrowed her top or something from Yui and Yui's was borrowed from another member of their parent group Sakura Gakuin.
If you look closely you can see the white tape used to make the Babybones skeleton costumes is also peeling off the black body suits.
There is a commentary video and the girls were very pleased with themselves for teaching the choreo to the Babybones guys so they could dance along with them in the video.
The "trilogy" you have been recommended is not actually a trilogy, it is just the last 3 songs from the Legend 1997 concert - 'Headbanger', 'Akatsuki (unfinished (acoustic) version' and 'BABYMETAL Death'. It is those specific performances you have been recommended to watch (live at Legend 1997).
I would suggest you watch the full version of 'Akatsuki' live at Budokan first - the unfinished version is very different and Su only performed it live that one time.
'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' was their second song, but 'Iine' (yes ee-neh, you got it) was released before that as their second song ... that one will surprise you.

This would be Babymetal on budget. I believe I’ve heard that this song was produced on a $6 budget, now don’t quote me on that, but that’s what I’ve heard and read about this. Su even borrowed the jacket from a teacher is what I’ve also heard. So, budget Babymetal is quite correct way of describing this!
You are correct: The budget for their very first MV hardly deserves the name. The outfits are not actual costumes but their own clothes and borrowed ones.

Oh wow, all the way to the beginning of Babymetal! I believe the video was recorded in 2011, so Su-metal was about 13 and Yuimetal and Moametal were 11. For some of us fans, it's very nostalgic.
Yes, very little to no budget. They began as a subgroup of the jpop idol group Sakura Gakuin as an experiment. The clothes are borrowed, the musicians are actors.
Edited: At the end with the musician actors dancing with them, the girls taught them the choreo.
Not all are actors, but just staff so they didn't need to hire people for it. The MV director even wanted to join as well, but the suit didn't fit.

I knew you'd get a charge out of "Doki Doki Morning"! Personally, I think you should follow up this with their second MV, "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay" - two i's followed by an n and an e) - if this MV had you scratching your head, going "WTF?!", then "Iine!" will peg your "WTF" gauge!!!
And, yeah, you got it right: it was Moa, Su, And Yui in that frame. I should mention that Yui typically stands to the left of Su (as you look at them) with Moa on the right but they will switch sides from time to time during performances.
Another thought: perhaps you should scare up the song lists for their three albums - "BABYMETAL", "Metal Resistance", and "Metal Galaxy" so you know what is still in store for you. 😉

The LIVE performance of this is great and in my opinion you should always follow a BabyMetal MV with a LIVE performance of the sane song.
This pretty much was Babymetal on a budget, as this was when they were still in the developmental stage and only doing BM part time/on the side as they were still primarily Idols. Koba was given a small budget to experiment with BM on the side to see if it was commercially viable, which resulted in a few shock value videos like this one and the rest is history. They were clearly very financially viable lol

Too many videos hehe... That's the regular version of "Akatsuki" the one in the trilogy is the "unfinished" version. But you will need to watch both versions. Same song, totally different feeling.
They are technically a group, backed by the Kami Band as you mentioned. I just call them BABYMETAL. And sometimes team BABYMETAL referring to all the people involved on their project, or The ONE, if you add the whole fanbase.

This was their first single. Yui and Moa 11 years old and Su 13. And yup, they never knew if it was gonna work and how well so they didn't have much of a budget yet.

Yui naturally has curly hair while Moa’s is straight that sometimes would be curl to match Yui.

"Babymetal on a Budget" is correct! Amuse made Koba (the producer) throw something together to prove to them this would work and gave him no money. The costumes are borrowed clothes from the staff and other Sakura Gakuin members.
Nice reaction. The most relatable song ever. It's just about waking up late and rushing to go to school. Of course, I never had to do that. lol. I started using this song for my alarm clock. Works like a charm. Funning thing for me, I think I was halfway through the first album before I came across this song. Yup I found them that long ago. Glad I did. They're so much fun. For the trilogy, you probably want to do Akatsuki unfinished. Or you can even do ANOTHER double. Akatsuki Unfinished, and then Akatsuki. They are quite different. Same song, just VERY different feels to them.

This is indeed Babymetal on a budget. Yup, this is where it all started. This was their first release while still under the Sakura Gakuin banner. The first performance I’ve watched was from November 2010, but I’ve heard their might has been one earlier performance. This video actually came out around a year after the first performance, but those more knowledgeable will correct me. Yes this was on a budget. No live band yet, Su borrowed her jacket from a staff member. Yui, or Moa borrowed a tie, or something from the other. I’ll stop and let the professional give the background.

Some producer somewhere hired the 3 girls from a selection to start de Babymetal project. I remember even watching Yui (I think it was Yui) on clips of her participation on another all girls group, prior to that, for example.

I just want to clarify 1 thing to avoid confusion on your part: the live band, the Kami Band, is composed of hired musician that tour with them, and they are not technically part of the band. That means that they are not necessary them that play in the studio recording. However we know for sure that at least 1 of them, Leda Cygnus, played the guitar in a few of their studio songs!

BABYMETAL was the antidote to a very boring and stagnant metal scene. This was their first song and their first MV...and yeah, they didn't have a big budget back then. They actually borrowed their outfit for this one.
