- Tomáš Souček handled the ball for West Ham in their game with Chelsea but the referee chose not to award a penalty and VAR did not intervene. Were Chelsea robbed? In this video, I look at the IFAB guidance for referees to assess the incident.

Did the ref and VAR get it wrong with Soucek's handball decision?
Yes
Most fans seem to agree Chelsea were very unfortunate here.
Yes
Absolutely he "palmed" the ball, you do not support your fall with the fingers straight down you use the heel of your hand.
Nah look closely it hits his knee not hand
The arm is bent at the elbow, it's not supporting his fall at all, his knees are supporting his weight. Definitely a penalty, no consistency at all with these officials
Seems to be a good take. Others might disagree but hard to argue here that his arm was simply used for support.
I believe VAR got the absolutely correct call.
Such amazing saves ought to be protected to keep football alive. Refereeing masterclass
😅 nice take
ma'am could i get your snap, please?
It looked to me like it hits his knee
@@jammypacks4504 knee

hand was in natural positon for a goalkeeper
😆
Chalobah got away with the exact same thing against newcastle a few weeks ago. As a West Ham fan i can only feel repaid from the previous game against Chelsea when the ref crossed off Cornet's goal. This is nothing against Chelsea, its against the horrific refereeing in the premier league. Always seems to be the worst ref calls in the same week, like with the arsenal game. Its like the refs play spin the wheel before the match week and it must have landed on "corruption" this week
Referees are human and when they are the same incident, they are in fact watching different things based on their perspective. This is why consistency is impossible because humans do not act like robots; referees decide based on their perspective and interpret each situation according to their experience and understanding. It’s frustrating for fans.
100% wrong decision
Seems that most people agree (even West Ham fans I’ve spoken to).
@@PaulSpacey is it even debatable?😂
Why did Soucek go to ground other than to stop the ball? Horrible non-call.
Yes, hard to argue against that view.
That isn't an argument at all. Of course he went to ground to stop the ball. Which further supports the support argument.
The ‘support’ argument would have more weight if he wasn’t directly moving towards the ball and literally leaning into it to stop it. His arm is also away from his body, something the referee should consider when making his decision.
And now Moyes is scolding the refs for a non-call against Thiago?? Can't have it both ways, David...
Selective memory.
It hit on the knee?
No it didn't
Might have brushed knee but hit the hand for sure.
If the goalie had done that they'd be saying it's a good save.
😄
Penalty all day long
most fans agree with you!
West Ham fan - it was a pen. the only thing maybe swaying me towards the refs side was that it hit his knee first - had it not, his had would’ve been out of the way and wouldn’t have touched it at all. also, he was giving nothing to us and everything to them so it was about time he did something good for us
Hypocrite Moyes: If Soucek that's not a penalty. If Thiago its a penalty.
It's off his knee. No handball no matter how many bad angles they show it from.
You're mad
I’m surprised at how many are saying it’s a knee and not a hand. Is there a definitive angle to show this conclusively?

Penalty plain and simple
V.A.R referee should all be punish and make an statement over all stupid decision. Premier League is the biggerst leagu and very disgusting decision from "referee". It's happen all time and very like money on table.
not sure it's corruption; just incompetence in these situations in terms of the mistakes. Humans will always make mistakes; having technology completely take over isn't the answer though IMO.
@@PaulSpacey Human always mistake that not the issue. In modern football right human are not making mistake but making bisness from anything. Today football no longer like a sport but biggest bisness by buying and selling human. Also control the game like no other. Since V.A.R being use referee making more mistake than usual. Is referee can't follow the rules by V.A.R can. Human creating more disaster other than save it. It may not looks like corruption but football today is getting dirty every year.
Bruh, this guy saved the ball like a goalkeeper, and he stopped Gallagher shot with his hand. Who knows, it might have been a goal at this point they should call the game handball
Wouldn’t have gone in but still should have been a pen.
For a future video, can you do an analysis of the controversial Barcelona vs Chelsea semifinal?
That’s a good suggestion actually; that was a shocking referee performance. I’ll look into doing it.
Definitely a penalty. What's the use of VAR, and also, the referee was one-sided. 👎👎👎
Yeah definite penalty there for me as a west ham fan , because he putting his body on the line and In doing that loses balance falls over and brakes with his hand, it’s a really tight one but the way it appears, seems like a penalty to me but it’s what the referee and VAR sees that counts
Thanks, hammer, from a blue
There is no clear image of the ball hitting his hand, to me it appears to hit his knee and the still picture is the ball in front of his hand after being deflected by his knee.
If you watch the replays, it appears that it may have touched his knee but then hits his hand. Very difficult to make an argument that it did not touch his hand at all.
Please go to eye doctor
How does this keep happening in the biggest league in the world? This is the most blatant handball since Maradona vs England in 86'. Absolutely disgraceful, the prats running VAR should be replaced with robots.
too keep the drama and give a headline to sell its all corruption
👀
Do u think France third penalty shootout vs Argentina must be retaken because Argentina goalkeeper Disturbed Tchouameni?
Disturbed him before taking it you mean? He was cleary playing mind games and I believe he got a yellow card for his actions before the penalty. If you are referencing something during the penalty itself, what is it? Verbal?
@@PaulSpacey yeah before taking the penalty so mind games just needed a yellow not red because iam arguing with a guy saying the goal keeper should send off
For verbal stuff or throwing the ball away, doing stupid shit will only get you a yellow in that situation. I believe they have updated the guidance now for penalties to stop that in future.
The ref is a bloody miscreant
😆
I can say that they did give West Ham 1 point here. Don't know if they did it for betting problems (West Ham Win/Draw 1/X) or to give West Ham 1 point to higher % stay in Premier League?
Conspiracies raging now 👀
@@PaulSpacey Haha.Did they forget the glasses? Or do they just suck at there job from time to time?
I dont know, u can tell me?
They are human and make mistakes; inevitable when you have a human interpreting a law/rule with technology that is operated by humans. Obvious mistakes are pretty rare in VAR but we had at least two this past weekend.
3 games in a in single day did have a FAILED VAR and Referee. West Ham need all points they need in the bottom and did maybe get 1 free. Arsenal did need the 3 points for the extra lead and did only get 1.
This are NOT the best League in the world and Super League are close. To have the best league in the world with 3 failed VAR and referee in a single day are NOT accepted.
"They are human and make mistakes" BULLSHIT... Dont use that card here. They suck BIG TIME or are against the team they did work with.
------------------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NOT ACCEPTED
One extra and maybe bigger joke. Now Man City are close to Arsenal and Premier League will Fail so hard if they accept the cheating team win the league. The world will laugh at Premier League if it happens.
I love watching football and spend many hour to watch different teams and games in different leagues. And if this kind of problems are in the league with the team i support, then i say exactly what i can see from my angle, to put the sticks in the wheel that goes in the wrong direction.
Day robbery
One way of looking at it
Pls do a review of alex krals offside goal aginst wolfsburg
That ball didn't even touch his hand. It came off the knee
🤣👀
U need an eye operation and brain surgery.
😁
you blind
Im trying desperately to see where the hand makes contact and neither shot makes it clear. The front shot u cant see contact and the back is so quick and blurred it could have easily hit the knee or hand. I think this is why ultimately it wasn't given, they couldnt get a clear and obvious angle.
